On the clock - 2008 NFL Draft

KC trades to get Albert, the Eagles settle for Otah? Is Otah even any good? He fails the name test.

How crazy would it be if he slid to the Steelers where he was projected back in January.

So how many times is it still funny to predict Millen will take Devin Thomas?

Baroo? Trade? Well, this worked out well last time we did this. It was to the Browns in the eventual Kevin Jones/Kellen Winslow Jr. trade.

Maybe we got something nice.

Maybe?

ETA: I would have liked Brandon Albert, personally. I was right with you, Omni. Come on, Cardinals! Take Mendenhall!

There goes Albert. I have a theory that when a team trades up immediately behind you to take a guy at the same position as you just took…well that means you took the wrong guy.

Well, maybe Albert didn’t look like a good fit. It’s like with the Broncos–a player has to be good but he also has to be athletic enough to handle the zone blocking.

“The fyoo-Chure!!! IS!!! AAAAAARGHS!!!”

Waiting to hear what the Lions got to trade back.

So the Cardinal’s are on the clock. Mendenhall is a perfect fit there it seems.

ETA: The Lions swapped 3rd rounders, moving up 10 picks and picked up a 5th rounder. Pretty good haul to move back two spots. Will depend if they are targeting Mendenhall or not, if they are and the Cards take him it’ll be a bad gamble. Though Jones wouldn’t be a bad compromise.

Good move Detroit. Swap 1s (two spots), swap 3s (ten spots), and add a 5. You’ll probably still get your guy, and add an extra player for depth. I like it.

Great move by the Chiefs trading up to get Albert. I’m afraid they may be costing themselves a solid DE, but with Harvey going so high and Merling being a bit behind, it makes sense. They’ll have to take a couple DE later and hope one of them pans out.

I think the Cardinals should go Rogers Cromartie.

Note: I actually typed this BEFORE the pick, but the 60 second rule cost me.

And the Lions get Mendenhall if they still want him.

Rogers-Cromartie reminds me of Dre Bly. Poor in run support and gambles to make picks, but potentially explosive. Wish they’d have taken Mendenhall so I wouldn’t have to see him in a Lions uni, plus I could have lived vicariously through him as he partied with Leinart and the ASU females.

Intriguing. Gosder goes waaaayyy higher than I thought.

OK, lets hope the Lions fuck this pick up somehow. I’m not comfortable living in a world where the Lions make savvy draft day moves.

Okay. Gosder Cherilus. I’m cool with that.

Pointy objects are fine to have by me now.

It’s beginning to pan out that the Eagles are going to take Jeff Otah. I read up on his scouting reports and I would be really disappointed if the Eagles took him here. He’s a terrific run blocking tackle who projects to be a monster in that area, but he’s really slow and immobile. For a Right Tackle, that’s a devastating combo. The great edge rushers are typically on the left side, and Otah looks like he won’t be able to handle them at all. Plus, because he’s so slow and immobile, he limits the Eagles ability to screen and dump on the right side (which they do a lot). I have no idea who I would take here though…

Baltimore trades up to this pick to get Flacco maybe? Damn it.

Though Houston might like the chance to grab Mendenhall.

ETA: Yup, that appears to be the move. This sucks, wanted the Bears to get him. I don’t like Henne or Brohm for the Bears. Wonder if Mendenhall will slide far enough for the Bears to trade up to get him. I’d love that.

Well…there goes the man crush, Omni. He wasn’t meant for you guys anyways…

There are other quarterbacks in the talent pool.

Wonder if the Cowboys will have a shot at Mendenhall.

He’s even got a great QB name…Gah!
