On this date in the MMP

It’s not yet 9:30 and so far, I’ve scrubbed the shower and the shower doors, showered and dressed myself, sorted and started the laundry, and stripped the tablecloth and placemats off the dining room table. I’ll need help removing the leaf and putting the dining room back to its correct configuration.

At least I no longer have to cook for a crowd. Whew!

Not sure when/if I’ll get to walk today. I’m wrangling Roxy at the moment while her Mama does some work. FCD is already in his office. SIL will be getting up and about soon - he works an early shift today. I’ll probably push the vacuum cleaner around after he leaves. Maybe I’ll even mop the kitchen floor.

Good times at FairyChatEstates!

It’s built like something from Acme! All I did was make a 30" by 18" frame out of untreated 2x2, and then put two layers (offset to each other) of that leftover fencing from the catio on it. I did two layers of the fencing just in case any skunks start getting ideas. The frame only has one screw at each corner. It will be held onto the house with two ¼" hex bolt head screws for ease of putting on and taking off. Should be good enough.

Fingers crossed! I haven’t seen the cute monsters since Thursday. I need to make sure they’re out, so I don’t trap them under the house and let them starve.

I made it quick and cheap, so the only way to make it an includer is manually.

It is a pretty nice day here in flyover country. We are going to a kosher bakery for bagels and the we have a couple of estate sales to browse.

Countdown: 34 days to retirement

Dorothy, so sorry to hear it! Do look into getting a mouth guard.

Dehydrating peaches and more plums. We begin moving offices today. I’m looking forward to the new space, which is smaller but will allow distancing more effectively. For now it will be a storage area so we can get the items we’re keeping from the other office out of the house. It’'s been cramped since early June.

Happy Saturday!

It’s a rainy 72 degrees this morning, the dog park was slow. Echo and Stormy behaved okay, Stormy growled some but Echo mostly ignored her. I think Echo does a lot better if I don’t try to pull her away, and honestly, I think we should just let them go at it and irk it out on their own.
I think Ripple scared a woman. I let him off leash from the park to the truck and another woman’s dog slipped it’s collar and she was chasing it across the parking lot. Little tiny thing, a yorkie/bichon puppy, probably about 5 pounds. Ripple saw the puppy and trotted right for it. Nothing happened but a lot of sniffing, Ripple loves puppies and is very gentle with them.

The couple who bring Stormy are going to look at the house I like today. They will let me know what they think of it, but, unless there is something majorly wrong with it, I am pretty sure they are going to put in a contract on it. They are young and handy with tools, and I think he isn’t irking. Not sure, he is from some town about an hour north of London, and is stuck here because of covid. He said something about a job at home, but he didn’t elaborate as to what is going on with that and I didn’t ask. To tell the truth, I have a hard time understanding a good bit of what he says anyway. He talks pretty fast and drops a lot of consonants.

Another guy at the park told me the house across the street from him is for sale. The house is nice, and it has a large fenced in yard that backs up to the ‘river’. ‘River’ in quotes, because what they call a river up here would be called a ditch where I grew up. It just got a contract on it, but it was out of my price range anyway.

I got the fence permit yesterday, and now I don’t know what to do.
I’ll probably stay put for a while.
As much as I like the other house, it is a lot of house for two people. But I look at the porch, and the she shed, and all those windows with all the natural light…

August is an okay month for me, it’s better than January. I might not think so if I didn’t have AC.

Sorry about your tooth Dots

My favorite mystery writer is… Agatha Christie. I’ve read every one of her books except Curtain. I couldn’t bring myself to read it, although I did watch that episode on TV.

Nettie and DH, I hope all goes well with the surgery.

I’ve got a load of clothes in the dryer, the one that my son said he’d put in the dryer for me last night and didn’t. I need to check if he ran the dishwasher. If he did, then I’ll wash some clothes. If he didn’t, I’ll run the dishwasher, then wash some clothes. I can’t do both at the same time, not enough water pressure.
I never called Friend1, and she never called me. I suppose I should but I keep putting it off.
I should let the lawn guy know I got the permit.

Don’t know what else I’m going to do, pull out the list and keep irking my way down it.
But first I need some breakfast.

Well that was fun - Roxy wet my pants! :open_mouth: She was sitting on my lap and I guess she really had to pee, because it soaked thru the diaper and into my t-shirt and shorts. So now she’s got dry britches and I had to change. Luckily, I can toss the shirt and shorts in the next load of laundry.

She’s soooooooo close to potty-training - if we catch her, she’ll use the toilet, but if she’s playing or whatever, she doesn’t care if she’s wet or poopy. She also mostly stays dry during nap. Soooooooo close…

Hope that your tooth repair goes well dot!

I loved the Anna Pigeon series herald. I haven’t read any of them written in the last five years though. I’m thinking that they will be on the list of series to update soon.

I awoke to a wet willie from a certain 15# bunkmate. :open_mouth: He’s been walked and fed now, so’s he’s napping. Otherwise, up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels and sheets in the wash, morning news digested and puppy crate cleaned. Now for KP and working on an ongoing project in the studio. Not much except finishing laundry and a trip to the dog park planned for the day, so it’s a lazy one.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I just submitted our applications for mail-in ballots. Actually, they’ll come via email, we’ll print them out, then drop them off at the Board of Elections in Leonardtown. I also volunteered to be an Election Judge. Maybe I’ll get to be the one to hand out stickers!

Laundry is done, critter fountain is clean, it’s been raining a bit on and off, so no walk today, but considering how many times I ran down and up the stairs, I got a bit of a workout. I’ll be sure to do a long walk tomorrow.

Chillage shall now ensue till suppertime.

Curious minds want to know. What kind of sorting and what kind of hockey? I played varsity field hockey in college, SIL played serious amateur ice hockey in Saskatchewan, now he curls in an adult league in Nebraska. We are all about stick sports in this family.

I have to share with housemates. They are checking on my consumption frequently. Some nonsense about fair.

Me also, plus SD/Mumper bingeing, reading trashy novel excessively. Mostly sloth.

If they find a way around it? If? More like when. Had raccoons that climbed a huge tree, crawled waayyy out a long branch and bashed out an attic window With rocks held in their little paws so they could nest inside and raise their babies in myattic. After replacing the window the second time at significant expense I put thick plexiglass in the window AND had that branch sawn off. So far so good. Now they nest and procreate under my front porch. I’m willing to share that space.

Grandkid wrangling is the best work you can get, IMHO. My day of it is tomorrow so I am resting up. My daughter insists it is so the parents can get their to-do list done. I think they are being kind and I love them even more for it.

Sounds like good times to me. Wish we could get the kidlets together to play. Bet that would be a sight to see! But only if my Hattie gets amnesty for whatever mischief she leads Roxy into.

Please tell me where the kosher bagel bakery is in the big O. I’m going there for a medical appt Thursday and will definitely make a stop. Good bagels are one of the things I miss most after moving away from Boston. That and good seafood.

My 1884 house also. You can shower or do laundry or wash dishes, you can’t do any two at the same time.

I thought the last two books of hers were not up to her prior quality. Too much love story and not enough mystery and intrigue. I liked her love stories through the series, thought they were nuanced and refreshingly real, but they dominated the last two books too much. I used to call fiction like that “balloon payment books”. The author had a big balloon payment due so they cranked out books of lesser quality just to pay something off. First applied this to Robert Parker’s books in his waning years.

Just finished 2nd mug of caffeine. Must settle on next form of sloth. Stand by.

Boo

My main objection was the changes she made in Anna’s and Elizabeth’s backstories. It’s possible that if I’d been reading them as they were published, I might not have noticed, but reading the entire series made the changes extremely obvious. As bad as some of the errors Todd and Gigi McCaffrey made when writing their Pern books. <shudder>

Lying low here as it’s NOS and heading rapidly to the forecast high of 90º. Tomorrow it’s going to be 95º. Shades are drawn, windows closed. With luck, it might not get much over 70º in here.

Moooom, I wonder how many voters will actually go to the polling places in Maryland. It’ll be interesting to find out. My sister has worked the polls in her town for years, but she’s high-risk, so she’s not planning on doing it this year.

I’m staying holed up indoors myself. Am doing laundry, because it really needs to happen, and trying for a cooler part of the day to ease up on local power supply seems like a good move.

Did some supply inventory (I’m a bit worried about possible further supply chain disruptions) and discovered that I quite unintentionally built up what may well be a several YEARS supply of hand sanitizer (over 2 gallons total). Hoarding was NOT the goal, I just kind of lost track of how much I already had when the conditioned reflex to buy an item that had been so scarce for quite a while kicked in when I saw said item available. At least I won’t have to worry about that item for a while.

Afternoon all. I was invited to help referee a soccer game at 1pm. Only problems I had was (1) it’s 89F (2) it was 15-16 year olds on a 120 yard field and (3) I haven’t had significant exercise in 4 months. So I made it through 65 of the 80 minutes, then one of the parents who was also a ref finished for me. Sore and tired, and thinking about going back out for a 4pm game (little kids) because dammit, I need to be doing things.

Also, managed to forget the groceries I had bought earlier, so my question to all is: if you leave a half-gallon of skim milk in the car in 85-90F heat for 4-5 hours, will it still be good or not?

Know what you mean, Nettie, in my case it was toilet paper, I now have enough to last through Memorial Day 2021.

FCM, I’ve often thought of volunteering like you did; how did you go about it?

OK, need to get more ice in me. All y’all take care.

I definitely would not trust that milk to be safe to use. Dump it and get more.

Vote early, and often.

Howdy. Weekend! Yay! Not much happening around the Butters house. Hubby is installing new blinds in the second bedroom. He grocery shopped while I napped. I guess I will cook but I don’t even know what he got to,cook. Hot as blazes here too. We are\were supposed to get rain this weekend but it hasn’t happened yet.

I made a plan. I am irking half days next week and the following week going full time. Then we reopen on the 31st for half days. I have leave to burn. Quite a bit. I think I shall go ahead and claim Thanksgiving week before anyone else does. Then I‘ll have to use the rest up before Christmas.

Dots I am so happy to see you. We were worried. Take care.

Ok blinds are done. Y’all enjoy the rest of the weekend.

@BippityBoppityBoo

The Bagel Bin is at 1215 S 119th St, Omaha, NE 68144. This is in a strip mall just south of Big Fred’s Pizza on 119th and Pacific. Big Fred’s used to be the best pizza in Omaha. Sadly the new management ruined that.

The online form to request a mail-in ballot included a line asking if you want to be an Election Judge. I clicked Yes. But you can just call your local Board of Elections and ask them.

I just ingested a big ol’ salad. FCD didn’t want supper, and daughter gave Roxy some leftover lasagna and some leftover green beans. That kid lurves green beans!! She repeatedly declared her dinner to be delicious (or the Roxy equivalent for delicious - no clue how to spell it.) Then she snarfed down everything on her plate. She must be packing it in for a growth spurt.

And I also vote with toss-the-milk. ick.

Lighthouse Pizza, 1004 S. 74 Plaza is interesting is interesting pizza. Different, but good. Garlic knots are great. Not Fred’s, Lighthouse is a whole different subspecies. Thanks for the Bagel Bin tip.

My first thought was ditch it. Milk is $2.49 a half gallon. Why risk taste or stomach misery for $2.49. Leaving it in a hot car does sound like something I would do however.

Boo

Milk has been tossed and replaced, thanks for the advice. Thought it probably wasn’t a good idea, but it’s nice to get concurrence here.

Need to nuke some dinner and get about the evening chores (which will be mostly staying awake until bedtime). Take care all.
