good thread.
Free diabetes medicine is available, I do not know where you are located but Publix in FL and a place called giant Eagle pharmacy gives it away. I suspect all areas have someplace to get supplies and meds for diabetes.
This is a 2 year old thread.
i see that, i’m in the same boat as the OP. Its good to see others people in the same position.
I hope you are feeling better. I would like to suggest volunteering for something. Where you can meet others. Or start a writing group.
I volunteer for fun events and meet lots of people involving the arts.
thanks. its good advice. I’m more concerned with returning to the US alone after being away for 10 years. Its somewhat intimidating. Altho i think the volunteering and meeting people might be a good place to start
Happy Birthday:)
And, although she’s voluntarily withdrawn from the board for a while, I can report that PapSett’s life has really improved. She started volunteering at a horse rescue, taking riding lessons, and working as transport co-ordinator for a dog rescue. She’s far happier than when she posted the OP.

I know this thread is old, and the OP’s not even around anymore, but I read the whole thing and I got teary-eyed, seeing the compassion and love that this board has for its members, once again.
But then, I’m pms-ing.
OP may not be posting, but that doesn’t mean OP isn’t reading. You never know when the ol’ dope will come through to show a member that they are being thought of when they may need to hear it. The dope is a funny place.
ETA: Ok, ok. I’m also a tad hormonal tonight.
Good thread. Where are you, PapSett? Looks like you were active just this morning. How are the horses, the pets? Dunno why the thread paused a couple years but want to hear the latest!
What a happy update. Thanks for letting us know.
That’s the kind of update I want to read. Thanks for sharing that. PapSett, if you ever read this, I’m glad to hear you turned things around and hope you’re happy and enjoying life.
Delighted to hear that!
Now I’m happy.
I had no idea this thread had been bumped up; since I was pitted a couple months ago I have just been skimming topics when I needed to kill a few minutes and have made myself scarse. But I couldn’t read these sweet responses and say nothing.
Thank you, all of you.
This kind of response… this is what has kept me around the Dope all these years.
As StG said, my life has totally turned around. I voluteer weekly at Hoof & a Prayer Horse Rescue, where I have made a whole GOB of friends with common interests. I have found a new love of my life, Jewel the yearling Appaloosa filly I have been training there. I am trying desperately to figure out a way to adopt her.
I have dropped a jeans size & still going. I still have my beloved dogs.
So, anyway… thank you all for caring.
We do care PapSett. And to show how much, I will remind you that you are no longer 50. You still have a way to go to catch me
[QUOTE=Emily Bronte]
Love is like the wild rose-briar,
Friendship like the holly-tree—
The holly is dark when the rose-briar blooms
But which will bloom most constantly?
The wild rose-briar is sweet in spring,
Its summer blossoms scent the air;
Yet wait till winter comes again
And who will call the wild-briar fair?
Then scorn the silly rose-wreath now
And deck thee with the holly’s sheen,
That when December blights thy brow
He still may leave thy garland green.

As Aristotle is reputed to have said, the cure for 50 enemies is one friend.
I keep looking for the ‘like’ button.
Nice to hear from you, PapSett! I wonder how many lonely hearts you’ll inspire? Say hi to all the animals, from “some stranger on the Internet”!
