One of the stories of Krishna - a romantic MMP

Today was really neat. I got to go on a tour of a powerplant - in fact, the largest power plant in Maryland. I didn’t know a lot about power generation, but I know more now. Plus a got a free pair of earplugs out of the deal!

I also decided to take tomorrow off. It’s the command picnic, and I just wan’t interested at all. So I’ll do some laundry and maybe start working on the sail cover. I figure if I’m not gonna do anything, I may as well not do it at home. Or something.

I’ve actually left the house open today - while its in the 80s outside, shade from all the trees have kept the house in the mid 70s. I may have to close up later when the sun comes thru the front windows, but maybe I can avoid it, and we’ll have another open-window night.

My mail carrier was really off today - I got 3 pieces of my neighbor’s mail. So when I walked the canines, I took it to her mailbox - she wasn’t home yet, so she’ll never know that it was misdelivered.

I want ice cream. Lots of ice cream. NOW!!!

Hi, all! I’ve been away from the Dope for awhile because of job and life and stuff, although I still lurk occasionally. I mostly just popped in to say thanks for the book recommendation! I’m going on my honeymoon in thee weeks and that sounds like the perfect laying-on-the-beach-doing-nothing read.

The Faerie

Know what’s nice after mowin’? You know when you’re all hot and sweaty and just want to cool off? Hosin’ oneself off with the hosepipe (duh!) and then jumpin’ in the pool! AHHHHHHHHH!!! It’s especially nice if one has thoughtfully remembered to stick a couple beerverages and some ice in a cooler out by the pool before startin’ to mow.

Congrats on finishin’ the course BooFae! 'im indoors owes you whatever favorite beerverages you desire plus dinner tonight. Tell him I said so. Though, by now, that or some reasonable facsimile has probably happened.

I’m still full from lunch. No biggie though cause supper tonight will either be heat up some leftovers or forage in the fridge for whatever strikes ones fancy.

Howdy Fae! I think there’ll be things beside readin’ to occupy yourself with on the honeymoon. Congrats!

Yay for all you with imminent raises and new jobs

My annual review is in November, but for the last two years I have not gotten so much as a COL adjustment because I earn beyond the top salary for my tier. And unless they do an across the board rate hike (which is about 2 years overdue now) I will not see any raise again this year - even tho my reviews have been good to bery good. grrr.
I played hookie today - my back was achy and I had a major case of the idonwanna’s - I’ll work harder tomorrow to make up for it

The doctor just called with the momentous news:

Everything is fine.

For this I waited three days and panicked? They have my absolute permission to let me know test results on my voicemail from now on. What exactly is there in that to discuss?

Sigh.

Mindfield, you really, really need to come into Toronto some time and we’ll do a baklava taste-off.

Amazon has the latest WoT listed for sale in January. Sounds like it’s not going to be out then. I gave up reading them at The Path of Daggers, too.

Jah, what series is it that you hate so much?

Unless they have written permission from the patient, they are not allowed to leave detailed messages that some other member of the household may overhear. It’s the whole privacy act thing. They could be libel if they leave a message without permission.

Yes, but two people can only do that for so long before the friction get to ya.

mork, I have toyed with rereading all of the books myself. I believe I’ll order them as audio books from the liberry, though.

meeks and li-li, things actually did happen in the last book Crossroads of Twilight. I simply HAVE to know how it ends. Sure hope he can finish.

Oh, and li-li, real glad everything is fine.

Lili, it’s Raclyffe’s Honor series. It’s Uber-Xena (that’s Xena/Gabrielle slash/fanfic set in the modern world that has been infecting lesbian fiction for waayyyy too many years now) at its finest, because as bad as it is, there’s plenty else out there that’s much, much worse. I hold Radclyffe fully responsible for the man-in-everything-but-name characters we’ve been subjected to recently, though. There’s butch, and then there’s “that’s a man, baby.” It may be dreck, but at least there’s lots of it, unlike the old days, when you might get 2 or 3 new books a year. (There’s also 7 of 9/Captain Janeway slash if you’re so inclined, but there’s only one person getting published writing it. It’s actually quite good.) I do prefer original characters. The current state of lesbian fiction? Take all the worst cliches from 70s and 80s Harlequin/Mills & Boone (I haven’t seen an Arab sheik or Greek prince, though. Yet.), change all the pronouns to “she,” make the main characters look like Xena and Gabrielle, and voila! Modern-day lesbian fiction. Actually, there’s some good writing out there, it’s just really hard to find under all of the dreck.

Li-Squared great news! I’m tossing confetti in your general direction.

Mindfield , the thing is- a year or so ago, there was one of those surveys in our big national trade magazine that said how much Bus Guys & gals make, according to how big their fleet is, how many kids, etc…

I’m a bit overpaid as is. I tossed the magazine and made sure the Powers That Be didn’t see it. No, really, I do a lot more than most people in my exact position, so I earn it.

FCM my dad was a mucky-muck in the electric company here, and when I was a kid, I was always getting the tour, and getting to see the inside of both fossil and nuke plants. It was noisy, that’s my overriding impression.

Ok, off to vacuum this place, feed the noisy beasts and get some catching up done answering mail and such.

Li[sup]2[/sup] YAY!!! Doc shoulda called sooner though. :dubious:

Glad everything’s ok LiLi. It would be nice though if, BEFORE running a test, the doctor ASKED if they could leave a message. I mean this must happen to them daily. They try to call someone, the person’s not there, they can’t leave a message, so the person panics, and then is mad when they finally get the results. Why not simplify the whole process by just ASKING UP FRONT whether or not they have permission to leave results on your voicemail? GAH!

Sorry… been there, done that and am still pissed about it.

Hi, everybody. <yawn> I took a nap and do feel better for it, but now I just want to go to bed for rest of the evening and night and stay there. Which I’ll probably do after dinner since I’ve got a serious case of the don’t wannas.

We’ve had our house open up until just a few minutes ago, too, FCM, but there’s a fast-moving line of thunderstorms passing over us. Not too bad, obviously, because Rusty isn’t freaking at all yet. But we figured we should close up just in case. Looking at the wind blowing the rain against the windows, it was obviously the right decision. By 8 pm we should be able to open up again for the night; it’s supposed to be down around 60° again tonight. Yay for nice cool sleeping weather.

Oops, I spoke too soon. There goes Rusty, crawling under my desk.

Anyway, congrats to BooFae! And good non-news from the doctor, LiLi. And congrats on being a good employee and getting a better-than-average raise, BusDude. We’re all such bright and talented people here, of course, is it any surprise?

So where are you going on your honeymoon, Fae? Somewhere special, I hope?

Yeah - and this is REALLY important. When I started doing stuff for my own health and not asking my mom, I was so grateful that Planned Parenthood - the only place I could afford health care - wouldn’t ever call home or to the dorm room and leave info. They even ask you if it’s OK to say the name Planned Parenthood, and my mom IS the type to freak when she hears those words. And she’s the type to come unexpectedly to my dorm room, and press buttons on my answering machine, etc.

Home and eating. Work went reasonably well(boss’ day off, DM in meetings in Va. ). Dinner is Chicken Jambalaya-like substance.

Fae, congrats on the wedding, and welcome back! Drop in after the honeymoon and tell us how it went. Pictures are good, too.

Congrats, BooFae! Tell 'im indoors he’s paying for tonight’s debauchery.

swampy, I didn’t disparage Miller, I just said Maggie won’t drink it. I’d drink Miller, especially if it was free. Nudge, nudge. Wink, wink.

LiLi, I’m glad Tinyninjachef is A-OK. Have Mr. Lisslar go Medieval on the doc, though(He can go to Confession afterwards).

Rosie, someday I’m gonna call in with the donwannas. Probably during hockey season.

Meeks, my Uncle Pat works for Delphi. I haven’t told him I own a Ford, yet.

LiLi, consider yourself lucky to even have a doctor. From what I hear about Canadian medicine, there’s a 10 month wait to see an obstetrician…

Well, shoot! I just lost a post. I keep clicking in the wrong spot on the tabs. It’s really the only thing I don’t like about the latest version of Firefox.

Anyway, I’d written yays for LiLi and Rebo and MBG.

And gone on about baklava (best I’ve had was brought in from Libya and had whole almonds in the middle and rosewater flavoring).

And welcomed Fae back (pictures please).

And was just starting to whine about not having tomorrow off.

Cool anecdote, SO. Maybe we’ll join the ranks of the civilized and respectful at some point.

Hi Drae. I was just wondering about you yesterday. Tell them they have to hire you because we said so.

Good vibes to all the sickies.

Sleepy. Maybe I’ll go to bed. (I’m reading Robert B. Parker’s Spare Change. It’s a Sunny Randall novel. Better than the last one, but I still like the Sunny Randall series the least of all of his.)

Back tomorrow…

GT

Who’s on for Monday? No, I do NOT want to do it. I will let you know when I having something OP-worthy to contribute. Until then please do not sneak around behind my back volunteering me (I’m looking at you, swampy)
Thunderboomers came thru a little earlier, but they were far enough away that w barely even got rain in my immediate neigborhood. Meanwhile, I am off to bed. The windows are still open, even tho it’s gotten a little humid - I think it’s supposed to dry out again, so tomorrow will be nice.

I think it’s Mama Tigs’ turn?
