One of the stories of Krishna - a romantic MMP

I am watching the oddest Brit show–it’s called “How Clean is Your House?”. It features two women who clean. Lordy, the houses they go into… I am not a houseproud woman, but my God! They should all be condemned by public health. The women are funny and I like the way the tall blonde tells these people what’s what. Aggie, the other woman, takes specimens to the lab and they culture this gunk.

Breakfast was good–but small portions. Now that I know that, I know to order more! Tomorrow morning I’ll have the Eye Opener. Today I had the eggs and bacon. I could get used to this (except there’s no eye candy, I don’t feel great and the decor is um, somewhat lacking).

Geez you people are active this morning.

rigsy how was breakfast?

We have all that weather here too, it’s 62 INSIDE the house and first thing I did this morning (after acknowledging a certain orange cat demanding attention) was wipe down some window sills.

I’m supposed to head to a nearby town’s Heritage Fest later this morning to see my friend’s band play at noon. I had to check the weather to see if it’d be worth the trip - this is supposed to end in an hour or so, which means I should be ok.

Wife has scheduled a few friends to come over tonight and play DVD trivia games. Yay.

Jah , our cat’s dish is right next to the kitchen door, and we’re always getting ants when they (ok, Scarlett) makes a mess. I regularly spray a line of ant killin’ stuff outside the kitchen door, and what happens is by the time they make it in the house they’re dead. I get piles of dead ants and just vacuum thw suckers up and don’t have to worry about getting Raid near the cat’s food.

Ok, time for coffee and Shredded Wheat.

Cable is fixed - apparently the serial number of the replacement converter wasn’t entered into the system, so we didn’t exist. But we do now, so that’s good.

Breakfast was et.

And, while eating breakfast, I was doing a real estate search, just for giggles. I was surprised to find there are 3 houses in this neighborhood on the market with realtors (in addition to one that has a By Owner sign out front.) The three are priced at $399,900, $415,000 and $425,000, so if any MMPers want to get themselves a nice little getaway cottage… I’ve never lived in such a pricey neighborhood in my life!!

We got in here just in time, I guess, even tho I felt as if we paid too much at the time. There’s no way we could afford to buy here now. On the other hand, we’ve got a buttload of equity in a very short time, but on the *other * other hand, our property taxes are gonna rocket, and we really should increase our home insurance.

OK, so now I mean it. I’m going to work. Stop distracting me, dagnabbit!! :stuck_out_tongue:

the question, rigs, is how are you doing? is the fever gone? are you rbeathing easier? are you getting visitors?

FCM’s at war with the cable company and I’m at war with the newspaper. There shall be fear and loathing on the eastern seaboard today!

I just called the paper again. They told me someone has been dispatched to bring me my paper. I told them they told me that two hours ago and I don’t live that far out. I paid for it, dangit, I want my paper. Now, it’s personal!

rigs insist they call the decorators in now. We can’t have a cool kid in less than suitable surroundings, after all.

FCM - you probably don’t need a tech to the house to fix the cable or even exchange the box - there are troubleshooting steps you can do yourself. When you next call the cabel folk, ask them how to reboot the box - write the steps down and keep them handy.

I finally remembered to call the sprinkler guy - but it’s okay since its been so rainy here (up til this week) But he’ll be here today to fix the broken heads and turn the system on. I should get dressed because I have to leave as soon as he gets here (I trust him) for errands and a hair appointment.

Fever is low grade. I’m more bored and tired than not well. I didn’t sleep well–I doubt I will until I get home. I am worried about the insurance and the money-the hospital is not cheap, but there is nothing I can do about it, so…

Swampy–I demanded to speak to the President of the hospital, but oddly, they all ignored me… The wallpaper strikes a note between bland and innocuous. It’s beige with some gray-blue splodges. The floor is beige. The curtains are beige with horizontal peach stripes. The metal cabinets are beige.
I am being beiged to death.

Perhaps you should tell them that the world’s foremost over the top gay decorator, Mr. Swampington J. Bear is outraged outraged that you are being forced to endure such tasteless surroundings and if they do not immediately send in decorators with fabric and paint swatches hissy fits will ensue. That should make 'em sit up and take notice!

How’s that homework comin’ along, young lady? :dubious:

<sits up in bed and says sniffily> I got up at 0530 and wrote 1/3 of my paper already! So there!
I have to go on some ref sources for more, but I know basically where I’m going with that one. I do have another paper for another class, but it’s not due until July 5. I am going to enjoy BBC America right now…

And you are so right, Swampus–I am NOT in the right mileu. I need color, dahling! Color and texture and movement!

Sounds just like home to me… :dubious: :stuck_out_tongue: (get well already and go to the *real *home, though, OK? Oh, I didn’t mention – that was an order)

I had a nap.
I never take a nap…? I just hope I’m not coming down with anything!

Thanks everyone for the rice cooking tips! I manage with plain rice… 1 Tbsp. oil / 2 cups* rice; cook while stirring for 2 minutes; add a quart of water, boil; simmer for ~15 minutes until done. Even I can manage that!
I was trying to do something slightly more advanced yesterday, involving chicken and onion as well… hell, I’ll give the recipe. It’s delicious when it’s done right:

Using a 1-1/2 gallon oval oven-cooker, well-oiled on the bottom and sides.

Cut 4-5 large onions into wedges or thick half-disks; place on bottom of pot.
Add a 2 pounds package (roughly a quart) dry rice; cover with pieces of skinned chicken, dipped in instant onion-soup mix – I use 1-2 chickens cut in 8, on the bone, but I’m sure it will work well with cubes or slices of chicken as well.
Pour 2 quarts of water on top of all this.
Put in a 350 oven for an hour.

Now for some reason (probably because I was trying to cook a tray of something else in the oven at the same time, and got the circulation all blocked up?) the rice never even absorbed all of the water and came out severly undercooked :frowning: This was fixed, actually, by putting it back in for a meager 20 minutes more at 400; but too late for dinner (I was timing things so they’d get to the table hot). The onions and chicken, OTOH, were actually quite good, if I say so myself.

And I **still **don’t like cooking!

*Of course, I used *sensible *measurements, like liters and grams; I’m winging the translations here.

Yes! Red accent walls! Stucco! Chippendale dancers!

swampy, I get the Sunday paper regularly, and the rest of the week sporadically. Only problem is, I haven’t been a subscriber for over a year! Occasionally, I call and ask them to stop delivering the paper, but since I’m not a subscriber, they can’t do anything about it. Oh, well, it’s not my money. Maybe it enhances their subscription numbers.

I need to eat breakfast, do laundry, and go to Target. Sigh. I hate doing the laundry. Maybe I’ll drop some of it off, so I can pick it up tomorrow evening.

Blood break - I stabbed my finger with a big ol’ needle and I had to bandage it up, and take a break to recover from the blood loss… [suth’rn belle]I do believe I may swoon[/sb]

The problem was not with the box this time - it was with the cable company - they weren’t sending our signal to us. But they are now. And I swear, if I have to call them again within a week, I’ll be calling a satellite company to see what they say about our trees.

Anyway, my project just took a turn that I have to cogitate on. I can’t just cover the old cushions - I have to take them out of the old covers and pretty much start from scratch. The issue is that they’re actually 2-piece units - a big hunk of foam in one sleeve, and a pool-noodle-like hunk of foam in another sleeve, and both sleeves share a common base. I was just going to cover it all as one unit, using some batting, but the chasm between the two is just too much to disguise that way. So I’ll wrap the two hunks of foam in batting, then cover the wrapped unit. Unless that doesn’t work then I’ll have to try something else.

This is fun, right?

Cripes, you guys have all been busy.

rigs, now I want a sausage mcmuffin. I don’t even like the damned things particularly, but the menu was grease-craving-inspiring. Which is ridiculous, because all I ate yesterday was fries. I should have enough grease for a week.

Last night was not enjoyable. Woke up because of upstairs neighbours banging at two forty, threw up at three forty, woke up at eight-thirty to puke again, went back to bed. I’ve just had a cup of tea and I’m starting to get a little hungry, which is good.

Other Quasi-Daughter and her Husband and Attacks Husband are all probably going to visit today to make sure I don’t get lonely- Mr. Lissar is grading tomorrow and at seminars all today, so he’ll be gone.

The days when I puke, I have much, much less energy. I’ve noticed this. I think today will mostly be spent lying down. I might do a little baking later on- I’ve got fresh homemade strawberry jam and I want gingerbread with whipped cream and cornbread with jam.

Keels over in dead faint…

Sorry about the food cravings–d’ya think it’s because you haven’t had a lot of fatty foods? (all through my first pregnancy I craved bologna sandwiches–I don’t even like bologna!)

The gingerbread sounds good…

FCM those are seriously ugly cushions…

My diet currently consists mostly of raisin bran or fries. Or toast. Those are all safe bets. Why, I don’t know. I haven’t really been getting cravings yet so much as profound aversions. I’m looking forward to the cravings.

I feel bad posting about my woes when I can’t keep up with everyone else’s woes here. But my thoughts are with those with woes.
My plumbing leak was due to a pipe with a little hole in it that the plumber said could have been made a long time ago with a nail and it just finished corroding through. It would have to have been at least 10 years ago before I got the house because I haven’t hammered any nails in that wall because I knew there was plumbing on the other side. So the repair only cost me $105. However, I now have to replace all the wet moldy drywall in the bathroom and the wall in the spare bedroom. I don’t know how much that will cost but replacing the drywall in the bathroom with the sink, toilet and tub on that wall seems like a major undertaking. I did want to remodel the bathroom eventually and get a new vanity, toilet and tub but I didn’t want to do it just yet. So for now I have a big gaping hole in the wall in the spare room and an itty bitty hole in the bathroom while I decide what to do.

Velcro? I heart velcro for stuff like that. Or an envelope method?

Our digital cable here is not working correctly, either. The box in my sewing room is kaput, but I haven’t had the time or energy to deal with the cable company to get it fixed.

Speaking of beading and sewing and stuff, here is a link to my blog if you all want to see what I am doing for my wedding gown. TheFaerieBlog

I need to go get some more beading done before I have to get ready to go to a friend’s wedding tonight.

Good morning everyone. My, my, my, you’ve all been busy already.

We don’t have any real big plans for today, some yard work and housework, and that’s about it.

I’m not a seamstress, FCM, so I can’t really offer any tips. I think I’d go with the velcro if at all possible, though.

Ick on the ants, Jahdra! Knock on wood, we haven’t had any infestations here.

My paper usually shows up without a hitch. I guess I’ve been lucky.

Rigs, I hope you keep improving. Have you written your papers yet? I like BBC America. I haven’t watched it in awhile, but I used to really enjoy it. They do a version of the How Clean is your House thing on TCL too (or did). It was pretty gross really.

Well, off to cruise the Dope a little.

FCM you could just duct tape fabric to those cushions. If you do it on the backsides no one will ever know. Just a helpful hint.

I’m inside for a couple minutes to cool off. It’s hawt outside! I was afraid I’d melt.
