Same here. I don’t like horror movies (other than deconstructions like Cabin in the Woods), but I’m a total sucker for the Saw series. I saw 2 through 5 in theaters on opening day.
I don’t care for horror movies at all, but loved Polanski’s The Tenant; it’s the only horror film that actually seemed scary (as opposed to being startling or gross).
I’m not a big fan of rap, but Aisha Tyler’s “No Ass At All” is one fine piece of work.
Wow, I was not expecting that sentence to end with that particular title.
My music tastes are hopelessly White, but I love Stevie Wonder.
I’m not a fan of 90’s Alternative rock But I do have 2 Alice IN chains albums, Facelift and dirt
Love Jerry’s guitar work.
Not a fan of anime, but I loved Yakitate! Japan!! so much that I have introduced others to it and watched it through twice.
Not a fan of most rap, but like a lot of Eminem.
Don’t really care for most heavy metal, but AC/DC rocks.
I normally couldn’t care less about vampire movies, but I loved the crap out of Let The Right One In.
Similarly, I usually don’t give a rat’s behind about zombie apocalypses, but I’ll make an exception for the French TV series Les Revenants, which is brilliant. (Actually, come to think of it, this one will be a two-off, as I’m also a bit of a fan of John Ajvide Lindqvist’s novel Handling the Undead.)
I’m not crazy about low-budget (-ish) TV sci-fi, but I recently binge-watched *Firefly *for the first time (yes, late to the party, I know), and it was very much like suddenly being hit in the face with a sack of mints. That is, surprishing and refreshing. And very cool.
I don’t like detective novels as a rule, but Raymond Chandler is probably my favorite writer.
Don’t care for rap, but I like Eminem.
Can’t stand Jim Carrey, but love The Truman Show.
Hmm…
I dislike John Grishman’s novels, but I enjoyed The Pelican Brief.
I despise all of the films made from Tom Clancy’s novels exceptClear and Present Danger
I dislike all Disney characters (not Marvel or Pixar) but I have always liked Donald Duck.
I despise Eminem and the majority of recent White “rappers” but I think Lose Yourself is a pretty good.
“Icecream Paintjob” is the only rap song I like. It must be really bad because I’m an old white guy (according to Chris Rock).
I don’t care much for spy films (especially the James Bond series), but De Palma’s Mission: Impossible was pretty good. The same with the Bourne trilogy.
I generally dislike Jim Carrey, and avoid his movies like an ebola outbreak, but he was perfect as the Riddler in that one Batman movie.
…in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Testify, brother/sister! However, despite the horrible theme song, Skyfall was incredible.
I’m in the same boat. I enjoy seeing deluded & obnoxious people get taken down & rebuilt by someone who really knows what they’re doing.
I also liked Murder in Small Town X & some of The Mole.
Despite not being a fan, I have seen most of the Bond films. Somehow Daniel Craig’s era has passed me by though. How is he in the role?
I dislike Jim Carrey’s shtick, but it worked perfectly for him in both The Mask and Liar, Liar.
ETA: I’m also not a big fan of Jack Black, but he was good in King Kong. I recently saw a performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, and the lead was almost a dead ringer for Black – and it worked, as the character is equal parts wide-eyed naif and Manipulative Bastard, which is right in Black’s wheelhouse.
He’s good. Overall, the “rebooted” Bond franchise appears to be going for a gritter & more realistic feel. They’ve done away with the goofy gadgets, altho one of the classic Bond cars (with machine guns) makes an appearance in Skyfall.
I absolutely love that whole scene, which because we’re encouraging the watching of the film for the first time, I’ll explain in a spoiler box:
The bad guys are blowing the hell out of Bond’s ancestral home, just laying waste to it left and right. He might die. M might die. The gruff old guy might die. But he’s stoic.
Then they blow up the Aston Martin, and his entire expression just falls and you can see him thinking, “Motherfucker, it is on.”
