One-offs that you love despite disliking the rest of the genre.

He’s very good; he has a certain toughness that the other Bonds (to me) just didn’t have (especially that ponce Roger Moore)–almost a mean streak.

I’ve seen Skyfall twice now, and just talking about it makes me want to see it again; to me IT’S THAT GOOD! Guess how many other Bond films I wanted to see more than once?

The Password is “goose egg.”

KneadToKnow: your spoiler is right on the money.

Anyone in the mood for goofy fun is encouraged to try “Cowboys and Aliens.” D. Craig is better than Harrison Ford. Check your mind at the door.

I love horror movies (not all but definitely a huge number and it’s my favorite genre) but I completely and totally detest Suspiria. I’ve tried to watch it 3 times and I just can’t watch it.

I have never liked Jim Carrey EXCEPT for Once Bitten. He’s actually likable as a normal person. I also enjoyed him on the Nantucket Comedy Roundtable but he wasn’t playing a roll in that.

Well, Chris is a bit more than a year older than I am, so I’m not sure how he defines “old white guy”, but I’m coming up on 48 and I’ve enjoyed rap since 1979. Good rap, not the wannabee “gangsta” stuff on the radio these days.

I don’t like most modern “pop” music, but I appreciate Lady Gaga’s stuff.

Skyfall looks amazing. The cinematography is best ever seen in a Bond film.

On the other hand, the plot is a real return to cheesy Bond stories of old. Gritty and Realistic it isn’t

I don’t always drink Mexican macro-brews (in fact, I avoid them whenever I can), but when I do, I prefer Negra Modelo.

He’s very different than Connery, Moore, and that Remington Steele guy. He doesn’t seem to be led around by his dick and isn’t a wise cracker. And there’s a LOT less gadgetry. Of course, that could be because Desmond Llewelyn died and a snarky John Cleese didn’t fit into the reboot. You probably should watch one of them, probably the first of Craig as Bond once to see.

I’m not a fan of kissing movies, but I do like The Princess Bride.

Inconceivable!

I’m actively disinterested by giant robots (despite having quite enjoyed other anime up through the end of college. But I loved Pacific Rim.

Where do you stand on The Iron Giant?

Careful: this might be a Voight-Kampff test.

sweats profusely I…uh…I couldn’t get through the whole movie.

throws a chair through the window and escapes

I suspected as much.

I loathe romantic comedies with a passion, but Sleepless in Seattle was pretty good. Also When Harry Met Sally, but that one rather transcends the genre.

This isn’t a genre I feel strongly about one way or the other, but movies about “a boy and his dog” never seem to move me. (“Old Yeller’s gone rabid? Too bad – gimme the shotgun!”) But the ending of My Dog Skip managed to bring a tear to my eye, for some reason.

All this talk about Skyfall almost makes me wish I’d seen it in theaters – except I convinced my family to see The Impossible instead, which turned out to be a top-tier disaster drama (my favorite genre, by far.)

Aisha Tyler is one fine piece of work.

I wonder if that’s why Skyfall is the most positively received of the Craig films. From what I’ve heard, it seems to be a return to the tone of the classic Bond films.

Ah, so Craig’s another “Angry Bond” like Dalton? Perfect.

I wasn’t much into Brosnan’s era (his movies seem the most dated these days), so I’m glad the series has gone back to it’s more serious roots. Hell, if every bond film could be as good as From Russia with Love, I’d watch them all daily.
BQ: Maybe 1-3?

Yes! For the second time in history, a bond that isn’t interested in sex first!

It will be strange though to see a new bond without Llewellyn’s Q to aid him. Even through the worst films, Desmond was always a delight. Perhaps it was the right move to reboot the series.

Can’t work up the slightest interest in most fantasy, especially the signature elfy, swords-and-tunics, kings and wizards, faux-medieval type, but I adore Lawrence Watt-Evans’ Ethshar series. Maybe because he’s so grounded and sensible about it.

Most interesting.

People have tried repeatedly to get me to like anime. “You’ll love this one!” they say. But if it’s not Miyazaki, they’re always wrong.

I keep trying, because I figure there’s nothing wrong with the genre as such; surely there’s something else in the genre I’ll find appealing (especially given my geeky nature). But for some reason, the rest of the genre so far has left me cold.

I’m actually with you on this one. I know it makes me a dilettante, and my anime-loving friends (including a cosplaying, convention-hopping SIL) probably roll their eyes at me, but I’m never really blown away by most anime.

And for some reason, even though Kiki’s Delivery Service and Spirited Away are my two favorite anime films, these people always seem to assume I don’t like most anime because I haven’t seen the REALLY GRITTY VIOLENT STUFF. :smack:
