One Song

I really want to expand my musical tastes, but there’s such a mass of music out there that it can sometimes be overwhelming. While the Internet has made positive changes to the way music is distributed, it can be hard to navigate just because there’s so much of it.

For me, my favorite way to come across new music is through people’s recommendations. I know there’s a wide variety of tastes here, so it seems like the perfect place to try this out! This is a thread to post one song that you, for whatever reason, really, really love. The only rule it that it can only be one song. Baroque classical or rap, death metal or indie pop - anything goes. It can be incredibly obscure or “Hey Jude”. You can talk about why you love it, or you can just drop in a link.

My two cents: “Skinny Love”. I sat here way too long debating whether to post Bon Iver’s or the more popular cover by Birdy, but although both are great, the original has an edge to it.

Rubber Ducky as sung by one of the Muppets really rocks and gets me moving!

Just an awesome song by a great band. Don’t care too much for the artwork in this video (too literal and distracting) but such a great story.

Turn it up loud and close you eyes…

Split Enz-Stranger Than Fiction

I prefer the orchestral version on Enzso and can’t find a direct link so here just click play on number 11 at the bottom.

Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony: 2nd Movement.

You And I Both-Jason Mraz

This is seriously my favorite song of all time.

What Goes On by The Velvet Underground.

It’s my #1 crank-it-up-to-11 song. Can only be appreciated on a good (and loud) stereo system.

The Church, “Life Speeds Up.”

My favorite band at the peak of their powers. Has it all-the guitar interplay, Steve Kilbey’s usual enigmatic lyrics, the propulsive power that typified their sound back then, and hooks galore. And the funniest thing about it is that it is a B-side. A 7 minute long B-side. And it is now my favorite cut of theirs.

To the OP: when can I post another song? Elsewise your thread will die a rather quick death…

Ah, why not. You see what kind of iron will I have . . .

The rules in this thread have been lowered from one to zero. Anarchy shall ravage us. Although if it lets me post Iron and Wine’s cover of “Such Great Heights”, maybe it’s worth it.

This one will take you half way around the world

The second movement of Beethoven’s Pathetique Sonata, played by Radu Lupu

Hozier, Take Me to Church.

This song nailed me to the wall when I first heard it, and I feel the same way about the rest of the album.

That’s one of my favorite songs from Southern Rock Opera. Here’s one from Brighter Than Creation’s Dark.
“A Ghost To Most” by Drive-By Truckers

I don’t have just one favorite Kesha song, but here is her own favorite, “Animal.”

Odara. Gal Costa.

“1952 Vincent Black Lightning,” by Richard Thompson. Song stopped me dead in my tracks the first time I heard it. (Well, I was actually driving, but you get the idea.)

Feelin’ the Spirit by the Luis Russell Orchestra. If I were a major league baseball player that would be my walk-up music.

I’m very bemused that Bon Iver and the Church made the first eight posts, and not even my favorite tracks of theirs.

Ah, well. I’ll go in a different direction. “Si te vas” is Shakira Mebarak in fine rocking form.

I was just listening to Stay a While by Dusty Springfield, featuring great drumming from the legendary Bobby Graham. I just love the arrangements for most of her songs.

Can’t get to YouTube from work, but I recommend Eva Cassidy’s rendition of Time After Time.
