Don’t confuse “cluttered” with “dirty”. As a single guy, my housekeeping habits are a bit… chaotic. But you can eat off my bathroom floor, there’s nothing unidentified growing in the fridge, and a cockroach wouldn’t dream of sticking its head into my space.
Not only is there nothing for the little scavenger to eat, my soon-to-be-patented WD-40/Zippo Falmethrower Pest Removal System keeps the little buggers at bay and has drawn the interest of ACME.
Everyone has hobbies, and Opal’s web-page is an an awesome example of computer/net savvy.
You could continue to show your little <FONT COLOR=“GREEN”>green-eyed</FONT> monster by continuing flame anyone and everyone, or you could emulate Opal and DO SOMETHING, rather than attacking those that do something.

This is my first post here. While I read the whole thread, I guess I don’t understand Jeanie’s animosity, or anyone else’s towards her. I hope I don’t offend anyone. The whole thing just seem to start at a bad place and digress from there. Several eloquent, semantic-game-playing, replies. Please let me know if I am mistaken. Is this a forum for voicing opinions on a range of topics, or just another place where kids come to play? Again, please don’t take this the wrong way. I’m only looking for a place to discuss things on a mature, intelligent level. For all the touting of intelligence which occurred in this thread, I read more than few replies containing language used primarily by those not in command of a larger vocabulary.
You do realize why “The BBQ Pit” was established, don’t you?
May I suggest another SD forum if this one does not suit your needs? There are many others on this site. If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the Pit.

I would second Diane’s suggestion about topics and fora. The “General” forum and the “Cecil” forum is where you’ll find most of the discussions you described. You can find some discussions on the “MPSIMS” forum, as well. This group can be a tough crowd (that has a few rough members). It is also an independent site so that (if you are coming in from AOL, for example) you are going to encounter language that would not pass muster in AOL’s Terms Of Service, but most of the fights will be on the issues.
The BBQ Pit was set up as a place for folks to take their feuds when personalities have gotten so wound up in their discussions that they just have to do some personal venting.
If it bothers you, avoid it. I doubt that this will be a hot spot for the true exchange of information.

Is this just a forum for an already-established clique? In spite of the disclaimer, the only person booted for use of vulgar, abusive language was Jeanie. Again, I don’t understand her position, or any of yours. But in the true nature of flame throwing, why were her insults objectionable while yours were not?
And by the way, between us, who, really, cannot stand the heat? I’d love truly to see some gifted, thoughtful, wordsmiths here … worthy adversaries. Thanks for your reply

a) This area of the MB is specifically designated for flame threads. Hence, the flaming. Hence why it’s called the BBQ pit. Hence why people said “if you can’t stand the heat…” when you complained.
b) Nobody got “booted.” In fact, if you read Lynn’s post, she said she wasn’t going to “boot” anyone, mainly because of the yuks she was giving us every time she posted. Hence, you haven’t read the whole thread as you claimed, which makes me think that you’re either one of Jeanie’s buddies, a dimwit, or both.
c) There was no “abusive, vulgar language,” at least not in my estimation of what that entails. Jeanie started this thread with an unprovoked flame about something that she didn’t really look into enough to understand (the fact that Opal’s “sexiest” award was a vote and not something she gave herself), and we made fun of her for it. If you think that what she said was vulgar and abusive, you’ve obviously never been to high school.

I used to live in Arlington (and Alexandria, BTW). Of all the places I’ve lived, it WAS my favorite. It was my favorite because I have great memories of visiting my dad at the Pentagon, and of the people that lived there, and all kinds of other things. Everyone was so nice. And someone like JEANIE lives there now? :::shudder::: There goes my memories of a pleasant place to live…

Both you and Jeannie seem to be confused about the purpose of the BBQ Pit. I’m not sure what you think it’s for, but Jeannie seems to think it’s someplace to hop in and start a thread insulting someone for no earthly reason. (Narcissistic? Why, because she dares to put information about herself on her own website? How dare she?)
Perhaps you missed the several times this fact was mentioned in the thread when you “read the whole thread”, but the comments Jeannie has made on this thread are the only posts she has made on the entire message board. In other words, she took a look at OpalCat’s page and then came over to this message board, apparently for the express purpose of insulting her, as she has made no contribution to any other forum or any other thread on this forum.
As for your questions:

The BBQ Pit is for participants in heated discussions in the other forums of this message board to move their comments when they feel their arguments have degenerated into a flame war and are adding nothing worthwhile to the discussion.
