What’s the quickest way to accomplish this? There’s gotta be a keyboard shortcut or a menu item to do this, but damned if I can find it by poring through Firefox’s menus, googling, or trial and error.
Shift-click opens a link in a new window, so shift-enter in the address bar seems like an obvious way to open that url in a new window, but that seems to just reload the window.
I’m getting really annoyed by this, especially because I swear I had it figured out at some point. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
I’ve been avoiding the Tabbrowser Extension, because it’s supposed to be pretty buggy, and I don’t really want most of the features.
I mean, I can always double-click the address bar, hit Command-C, Command-N, double click in the new address bar, hit Command-V and enter, and that works . . . Just seems like there ought to be and easier way.
Does Command-L work to select the location bar like it does on Windows? On Windows I can do what you suggest with ctrl-L ctrl-C ctrl-N [ctrl-L] ctrl-V Enter (the second ctrl-L not really necessary since the new window has the location bar active), avoiding the mouse entirely; but I don’t have ready access to a Mac to try that out. I can also drag tabs into new windows, but I’m not sure if that’s a feature in base Mozilla or in TBE (which I have installed).
Okay, got it! Thanks, Peter Morris. That’s exactly what I needed! The Merge Window command looks like it will be userful, too. Plus, your link made me realize that there was something wrong with my automatic check-for-updates thingamajiggie, so I’m no longer 0.0.6 versions behind.
Omphaloskeptic, I should add that when I bring up a new window, the focus isn’t on the address bar, unfortunately. I definitely can’t drag and drop tabs, so that must be a TBX thing. But that Command-L thing is sure gonna come in handy!
