Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 65 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 87 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Today we shall lay in provisions. Actually not much needed as the larder is pretty full, but OYKW will make a run to the Pubic Sto’ to procure a few items and get shrimpies cause sup shall be shrimpies ‘n grits with roasted spareguts due to a gnawin’ and a cravin’ on both our parts. I shall betake myself over to the church house to deal with some church janitor Junior Warden duties as well as take the stuff over to NIN today. Of course this means havin’ to don apropriate bein’ about the public attire yet again. I shall survive, however.
wordy glad the meetin’ went well!
VanGo hope the mower is fixable, but if not, here’s hopin’ you can find a suitable replacement. We have an ancient Yazoo zero turn mower at the church. It is seriously around fifty years old and still works!
flyboy eek! Glad it was nuttin’ too major. Hope there was not a big or long time power outage.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification and the donnin of appropriate attire for bein’ amongst the public must ensue.
Regarding mowers (and cars, and other high-cost items) - I am a firm believer in regular preventative maintenance. Just as I take the vehicles in every 5K miles for service, our riding mower goes to Amish Dave every other year for a good once-over. He checks, adjusts, or replaces items as necessary, and a couple of hundred for maintenance beats a couple thousand (or more) for a replacement. Similarly, when we had our HVAC service last week, the tech pointed out that our system was installed in 2006 (yup, I knew that) and theoretically, it’s pretty close to the end of its life, but because we have it serviced regularly, we can maybe expect a few more years out of it. We figure the compressor will die long before the oil burner.
I, also, am dressed to be seen in public. We’ll be leaving for Baltimore in half an hour or so. FCD keeps saying he can drive himself. I ain’t buyin’ it! Not looking forward to the trek, but that’s the problem with a lack of good orthopedic surgeons in this area. I’m hoping he’ll get some really positive news - he’s been in the dumps worrying that he’ll never walk normally again.
Since I won’t be allowed into the office, I’ve got my tablet to amuse me in the car. I’d downloaded some books from the library, plus I’ve got the assortment of games on there, so I’ll be good for some hours. As long as I don’t need the potty…
I am up and at 'em, although as a small bday gift to myself, I stayed in bed a whole 10 minutes past four.
The doctor visit was a complete waste of time. I guess the good news is that nothing appears broken or torn, but as he only completed a physical exam and there no imaging, we’ll never know. Basically, I was told to rest, ice, ibuprofen, don’t run or walk, avoid stairs, and do some knee strengthening stuff. Sooooo, basically what I’ve been been doing since the second week in February. I am frustrated. He noted the extreme swelling. Same stuff with the arm. I am really irritated. I’m supposed to check back in a month.
Well, screw all that. I am getting back on my fitness regimen. I can’t quit living life, especially they SAY nothing is wrong.
Ugh, just so over it. I told my husband, “And, that’s why I don’t go to the doctor”. If I go in, I have a problem. I hate going, so when I get bullshit diagnoses and shoulder shrug, I lose all patience. They never figured out what causes the dizzy spells either. And, although it was THIS doctor’s (PA actually) fault, they never entered the tetanus shot I received last summer in my records. I got the shot last summer because I was visiting my regular doctor about the dizziness issue. Since I was already there, she ordered one up and a nurse came in and gave it to me. Nope, not in my records. Of course she was the doctor, who after all the tests, visits, manipulations to find the cause of my dizziness, said “Maybe you’re just diabetic. Lose some weight and try this kind of diet”. The tests said I am NOT diabetic. :pant:pant. I hate going to the doctor. I have even less reason to want to visit now.
I have no birthday plans. I’m going to work and help spread bark after work. That’s the extent of my day. I may do something to celebrate this coming weekend. I dunno yet.
Afternoon, mumpers…it’s bright and sunny out there today, in contrast to yesterday’s poopy weather. The weather app says “It’s raining. Oh, you already knew that? Why are you looking at this fucking app?” and promises me 14C/57F all day, mostly cloudy with light showers. Totally not what is going on outside.
We went out for a curry last night, our local pub is open again and the kitchen was also open yesterday so we made sure the Nepalese chef was busy! It was good to be out doing something normal for a change, although the table of six women next to us who were out celebrating a 31st birthday made it sound like more of a chimp’s tea party. Don’t know why women that age feel the need to squeal and shriek at each other all the time. It wasn’t going to spoil our night out though.
Busy irk day today, fortunately only one meeting in the calendar so far although I am expecting to see something pop up from the boss since we found out yesterday that the Big Boss is off for a month (presumably sick leave) which means there will be at least three other people helping (for which you should read “interfering”) with stuff in our dept.
Grocery shopping was achieved last night before heading to the pub, so the fridge is full of good things and I need to work out which bit of fish to use first in order to keep a certain Mr Murder Mittens happy.
Nothing much planned, this is my one non-soccer day of the week, so probably will clean around the house some. Supposed to get near 82F today, so might open up some windows and let some air into the room… Some minor shopping and bill-paying may also be on the schedule.
Boo fae, glad you enjoyed eating out.
Taters, sorry the Drs. visit was a bust; sounds like you might want to start seeing other doctors…
OK, need to take my medicine while I’m thinking about it and get on with the day. All y’all take care.
And I’m sorry to hear about your uneventful doctor’s appointments. I’d second the suggestion that you consider other doctors, but I know what a pain in the butt that is. (And this is coming from someone who hasn’t visited a doctor in a few years specifically for the reasons you cite.)
Well, it was sunny a few moments ago, but now it’s cloudy. It’ll be nearly 80F today if the weather people are to be trusted. We’re doing prep for midyear evaluations at work today. Ugh. I detest said evaluations; I started having them monthly with my own employees because there’s nothing as crappy as getting to the middle of the year and being told, “Surprise! We’ve waited six months to tell you, but you haven’t been doing what you’re supposed to be for half the year,” and having very limited time to fix it.
Anyway, back to work. Luckily I don’t have bad news for anyone.
I got my ten miles in this morning. I tried doing my route backwards this morning to shake things up. I had The Smithereens on the headphones for the ride. Before anyone thinks I am dangerously insane, I use those jawbone headphones, so I can hear traffic around me. I also wear yum-yum yellow and make sure my lights are on and annoyingly flashy. I do not want the last word I ever hear to be, “But I didn’t see him!”
Yesterday was “fun”. It took nearly an hour to get the concept that I want this port on the DACS wired to this port on the router across to my tech in Georgia. He kept going on about what used to be on the DACS. Sometimes I wonder about people.
Mrs Magill is getting her next to last treatment today. We are almost out of the woods. Her parents come tomorrow, and Fang’s godfather is coming in Friday for graduation. Everyone is vaccinated (except Squeaky, but he turns twelve in two weeks), so we are looking forward to seeing everyone.
Spike’s birthday is Monday, and I need to get his dinner order from him. He’s wavering between getting takeout from the hibachi place up the street or rump roast and Yorkshire pudding. I need to know, so I can get the butcher at Publix to cut me a rump big enough when I do the shopping tonight.
My lagomorph assistant is nudging me. I guess I’m slacking off in the Petting The Bunny Department.
So when I was going to work, the house up the street had crime scene tape around the yard, 4 cop cars in front of it, and 6 more across the street. Apparently somebody got shot in the leg. Work went OK for peak day. Did a load of whites, now it’s nap time.
Cool, cloudy, and wet here. I don’t have much planned.
Someone please explain to me the affinity some twenty-somethings have for very loud trucks. Seriously, what’s the draw? I don’t get the jacked-up thing, either, but that doesn’t wake up the baby next door.
taters, not fond of doc appointments, either, and for the same reasons. I’ve been tempted many times to say, “Screw this,” and never return. But I’m no quitter, and I figure my poor body deserves better. So does yours, so I hope you find another doc or ask for a referral to a specialist. Oh, and I know lots of people love their PA’s, but I avoid them for anything that isn’t simple and straight-forward.
And HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
@Maus_Magill, do you get hassled by drivers? I’ve heard that happens a lot. It’d make me nervous.
Back from Baltimore. I was allowed into the office after all. The doc told FCD what I’ve been telling him all along - the healing process will take a while - doc said it could be up to a year! But he did say he could look into starting the knee replacement in July. Plus he wrote an order for an MRI to see how things are progressing.
I think we’ve all but decided to put off Antarctica for a year - the same cruise is available at the end of 2022, so why not?
After the appointment, we stopped at a diner for lunch. Remember when diners were generally cheap places? HAH! 2 sammiches with fries and a drink came to just over $38 - before tip!!! eeeeesh! But we’s well-stuffded, so I doubt that either of us will want supper.
I’m about to go out and scrub the back deck railings. It’s sunny and upper 90s and the fresh air will do me good. Onward!!
Happy Birthday, Taters!
Sorry, I don’t sing nearly as well as Swampy.
Ya know, I’ve been diabetic for most of my life and most of my family is/was diabetic and I’ve never been told it can cause dizziness. I think your doc is full of it. I think you need to visit an ear specialist.
We’re pack up to go back to the valley, but I will eat a sammie first, so I don’t die of starvulation along the way.
happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday DEAR Taters, happy birthday to you …and many more…
May I chime in agreeing with checking next with an ear specialist for the dizziness? That’s often where the cause for dizziness is found, unless it is wooziness from low blood pressure. Diabetes is rarely it, especially asymptomatic pre-diabetes. Audiologist also do dizziness/vertigo workups, that could be another avenue to try. Many Costcos offer audiology.
I’ve been having some problems with whirlies lately myself, especially when my sinuses are acting up or I’m getting stressed.
Walmart managed to screw up so badly that the order got cancelled and I’m getting most of what I needed via Instacart. (grump) Not sure obtaining supplies is much less annoying than Hades Annex would have been today.
Glad to hear FCD got an encouraging report from the surgeon~sorry it’ll take so long to get maximum results but at least he can start working on the knees too. His PT is gonna love him! Antarctica will indeed wait for you. Ice is like that.
