The railings are clean - yay!! And I’ve watered my outdoor plants. And I’ve picked up the truck - they balanced the back wheels and I wish I’d had them do the front ones, too. But we’ll have that checked next time we take it in.
Neither of us want supper after the huge lunch we had. I bought some Amish strawberries on the way home - I may clean a few of them for evening snacking. Or I’ll just chill the night away. I’s tahred!!! I had a night of weird dreams and random wakings, on top of a long day in the car and the manual labor once I got home. So, yeah, tahred.
Today sucked. I got a write up at irk for what amounts to BS. What’s happening is that the leadership is attempting to rid itself of all of the folks at the top of their pay bands, myself being one of them. The weekend shift coordinator took another position after 16 years in the department, our coordinator, with 11 years in has been given BS write ups as well (I think his absence this week may be job hunting) and the weekend lead, again with 16 years, mostly in the department was written up last week. I’m checking job openings on LinkedIn to see what’s out there. I really don’t want to change jobs this late in the game, but at least I want a choice about it.
Just had a pulled pork w/BBQ sauce and coleslaw inna low-carb wrap, some pulled pork w/o sauce, and some red wine.
The kitchen sink clogged today. I tried a plunger and Liquid Plumber, to no avail. Mrs. L.A. put more Liquid Plumber in it an hour or two ago, but I don’t see anything happening. I called and texted the plumber who installed the utility sink, but he hasn’t replied.
Evening all. Garbage and recyclables are out at the curb and dishes have been put away (and re-filling of the dishwasher has commenced). Cheeseburger has been assimilated and all is right with the world.
A somewhat late Happy Birthday, taters; hope it was a good one. As for the Dr, well, remember somebody had to finish at the bottom of their class…
red, getting rid of experienced people because they cost too much is a favorite tactic of the incompetent, IMHO; it usually ends up costing them more in the long run. Hope things work out.
FCM, sounds like good medical advice; hope FCD was listening…and if you keep delaying the Antarctica trip, I may be with you (planning on 2023).
Wizard, good news for Ms. Magill; hope it stays positive.
On to internettin’, and I’ll have to get another book out, finished the one I was reading. Take care all.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ;Tis 64 Amurrkin out and fair (as opposed to carnival?) with a predicted high of 89 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Temps are on the climb and Moanday’s high is predicted to be a hunnert and one! Not much doin’ on the agenda today. I started feelin’ puny around noon yestiddy, all achy and a little fever/chills. I took to bed and pretty much stayed there except fir a couple of hours where I forced myself to stay up and consume some ginger ale and crackers. I feel fine this mornin’, so don’t know what that was about. Sup shall be the shrimpies 'n grits and roasted spareguts we did not make yestiddy.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Hongry is a good sign I am over whatever. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy (belated) birthday Taters! (Please imagine the purty colours)
Morning…ish. everyone else.
After a bone dry April, it really seems to have got the hang of rain again- we’ve had lightning and proper downpours on and off for days now.
Nothing more exciting than the weather’s been happening round here- I’m actually going to an event on Saturday though, an outdoor show, having booked a ticket in a moment of optimism a month ago. Going to be a bit weird intentionally being round that many people, but I can always run away if I need to.
I’ll keep on the lookout for a deal, but the fare on the identical trip one year later is almost $5K more. If you add in airfare and maybe a few side trips along the way, we’re looking at a total of over $25K - a bit richer than I’d hoped for. Then again, Princess is a pricier line - I’ll check to see what other cruise lines are offering.
I woke stupid early again and stayed in bed reading till I felt guilty about Higgs being caged so late. In the last 40 minutes or so, I showered, dressed, tended to the critters, hauled the laundry from the bedroom to the kitchen (next stop, laundry room) and I breakfasted. Apart from laundry, I’m not sure what the day holds, but I’m hoping to do some weeding and planting in my veggie patch. I think I can finally put in the green beans, plus I’ve got a dozen sunflowers to transplant. I need to mow, but not with Roxy here - maybe this afternoon after she goes home.
We’ve got a hot stretch in store also, tho not the triple digits Jawja is threatened with. As some point, alas, the windows will be closed and the a/c will be turned on. Dammit.
And we’ve been thinking maybe we need to go ahead and replace the water heater. It’s the one that was here when we bought 17 years ago, and I have no idea how long it had been here at that point. Everything I read says 8-12 years is the usual life span of that appliance, and you just know it will fail at the worst possible time. Our HVAC company also does plumbing - I’ll call and see if they do water heaters.
OK, time to haul the dirty clothes downstairs and get the washer washing. Oh yeah - and what can one do with very ripe 'nanners other than 'nanner bread?
PS - just heard from my daughter - looks like it’s a boy. She thought it might be.
Good morning everyone. Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes.
The doc I saw was a PA and not my normal care provider. I would have had to wait until mid-June to see her (at that point 60 days from when I was trying to book the appointment). So, that’s why I opted to see the PA. I should have waited, but then again, I’m not impressed with my regular doc anyway. Sigh. My HMO has really gone downhill. I used to get an appointment really quickly and they definitely took their time. Now, it’s “get 'em in, and get 'em out” and has become very corporate. I know all about appointment times for visit types; I used to work at a hospital. Now everything feels rushed and the providers act like they can’t wait to be out of the exam room. It all went downhill after Kaiser Permanente bought out my HMO. Anyway, in about a month, I’m going to call and ask for a specialist referral. The PA happened to miss the big lump on my wrist too. I’d insert a roll-eye here, but emoticons still don’t work.
Congrats on the upcoming grandson, FCM! Glad to hear the encouraging words about FCD’s recovery and surgery too.
I’m sorry to read about your write-up and the BS they are pulling at your place of work, missred. I’d be on the hunt too.
Today is my Friday and I receive my final Moderna vaccine. I’ll be glad this is done. It would have been nice if I could have just gotten the shot on Tuesday instead of making two trips in a week, but it’s not all that far away.
We had a weird power blink yesterday and it seems to have done something to my husband’s brand new computer. It won’t turn back on, so I am assuming something got fried. Nothing else on that surge protector was damaged, but somehow, we can’t get the PC back on. So, for now, no virtual reality games for the hubby. We’ve only had the computer for a couple, few months, so it’s discouraging that this happened.
Really not feeling the work thing today. I’d rather be off, but same ol’ song and dance. Stuff to do, deadlines to meet.
Today it’s going to be close to 90F. I’m sure this will get old, but I do love the hot weather and can’t wait for the pools to open. I haven’t heard back from dad yet, but hoping to hear soon. It’s going to be one of those stretched thin kinda days - helping mom with stuff, scouts, cars in for servicing, working, etc.
When I went into the service center at our local Toyota dealer it was really weird to see everyone without a mask. Customers, sales people, service people. I felt a little ridiculous with mine, but I’m still a little uneasy going without. It seems a little premature given how many people have no intention of getting vaccinated. But what do I know?
Well, time to get to work - I hope everyone has a phenomenal day!
I got into the orifice before a quahtah past seven. I was going to say I was all alone, but the cow-orker who usually beats me in just walked in. She said traff-ick was so bad that she considered turning around and working from home. Traff-ick from the north was very good for me this morning.
Interestingly, I still see a lot of people in stores around here wearing masks. I’ll keep wearing mine, even tho I’m pretty sure I’m safe. Setting and example and all that.
Time to fold the one load that went into the dryer - off with me!
Yeah, mask-wearing here in N. Ali-bama has gone from very good to a distinct minority in the past week. I still carry mine for times in stores that I interact closely (checkout, etc.) with people and will do the same in restaurants, but outdoors…not so much.
Stayed in bed until 9:30am so have had my one day of sleeping in this week. Obtained several bills I had been expecting from the mailbox and need to pay/mail them sometime soon. Except for soccer practice and bringing in the garbage/recycle cans, nothing much on the agenda.
Taters, hope computer is still under warranty and can get fixed fast.
swampy, only getting to 83F here today, it’s still too damn early for 100F weather yet. Course in Abu Dhabi it’s over 100F now everyday and will stay that way until October… And keep feeling better, those 24-hour bugs will make you feel awful, and then just as suddenly go away…
Nut, enjoy the show, we’re all going to have to get re-socialized here.
OK, need to look mildly presentable (since I won’t be exiting the car) and go do the necessary stuff outside the house. All y’all take care.
Afternoon, mumpers! As Nuts said, it’s been proper biblical in terms of rain around here too. There were three massive potholes in the road just down from our house, you could hear the cars bouncing in and out of them. This morning, the council guys came and filled them in at 8am, picking a point where it wasn’t raining but the morning school/work run was having traffic crawling up and down the street. Having the council guys working virtually in the middle of the road caused quite a bit of irritation. I sat here and smirked, just 'cos I could.
I’ve spent almost the entire day working through my exams spreadsheet after someone else royally f*cked up something else, so I’ve had to check every last detail and correct a bunch of things they’d messed up. I need to switch off now because it’s sending me cross-eyed!
Today’s mail brought me a reminder about a safety recall on my car, and a reminder that I haven’t booked an eye test yet. Can’t be bothered to do either at the moment. The car issue is with child safety locks so is not an issue for me, and involves leaving the car for at least an hour at the dealership, which is in the wrong part of town to spend even 10 minutes!
Do put on some pants though, those car seats can get awfully hot in the sun.
Nothing much to report from here. We got back to the valley yesterday about 6pm, give or take.
Lawn needs to be mowed, but it raied yesterday, so I’l let it dry out some. May mow tomorrow. Doggos get groomed tomorrow, too. Today we need to pick up our mail, which has been accumulating at the post office, and I need to pick up some prescriptions and chat with the pharmacist. May go to the grocery for some supplies too. Have to inventory. We’re only here for a week this time and ten going back, so don’t need much.
Don’t car dealerships in your country have waiting rooms? The dealership where I take my car isn’t in a bad part of town, it’s mostly in no part of town, in that there’s no place much within walking distance (for a crippled up old phart), so I usually just take a book with me to pass the time.
I could have sworn I posted last night. Turns out I didn’t hit “Reply.” Oops. Yesterday I went to the gym. Have I mentioned how happy I am to be able to go to the gym (Thanks, science, for the vaccine!) and that the lupus is in remission? But I have a pet peeve: people who sit at a machine for 10 or 15 or 20 minutes and text or play games. A polite, “Excuse me. Are you done here?” Usually gets a “Not yet.” Hmph.
So all of you saying people aren’t wearing masks, did your states lift the mask mandates? We’re still waiting on the governor here, and compliance is still very high, at least on this end of the state.
missred, pretty slimy stuff your employer is pulling there. I hope you can get out and get a job where your abilities are appreciated.
FCM, congrats on the upcoming grandson! I know you were hoping for a girl, but boys are pretty sweet, too, and they’ll get the room situation figured out.
Honestly - the main reason is that my SIL is black, so their son will, like Roxy, have definite black features, and the way black men and boys are treated in this country scares the crap out of me. That’s why I hoped for another girl. But who knows - maybe things will change… yeah, maybe…
Roxy was a hoot at the playground, and she had several kids to play with. We stayed long enough that my daughter came over to claim her. When I saw her coming, I said “Roxy - look! There’s Mama!” and the child got a look of disappointment on her face and ran to hide behind me! Nice to know I’m the favorite!!
There was a woman there with a 2-month-old in a stroller and Roxy absolutely loves babies! She was doing peek-a-boo and chattering at the baby. Here’s hoping that holds come November.
FCD doesn’t want supper so I see leftovers or maybe just some toast for me. I had my leftover Chinese for lunch, and it’s sitting like a lump in my gut. That doesn’t bode well for a full meal. But for now, I need to get the clothes in from the lines.
Last week I was informed that I will be receiving a $25 Amazon gift card for loading data from a new client. The 12 people who got gift cards (one of whom got $100 for getting data from new sources) went into a drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card.
Oh, they sure are! My sweetest one is a boy. I had the same worry though and it took about a millisecond to get over after the OB held him up for me to see. A micro-mini-second. Now I’ll get to do it again, my grandchild coming at the end of June is a boy too. FairyChatMoooom and Boo will get to grandson love festival together!! whee!!
I know you didn’t ask me, but here the public pools open the day after the last day of school. Today is our last day of school. Whee!! again. Not nearly warm enough here for pools yet. I suspect gaming and YouTubing will rule the day in Chez Boo.
Our pools open Memorial Day weekend, so next week. Thank goodness. I used to prefer fall because I have these sweating superpowers where I can sweat through anything in hot weather in 10 minutes or under, but now that I’m older I hate being cold even more than I hate sweating through my pants. I’ve more or less lost all shame.
Speaking of, I’m dripping dry after my revenge run - it’s gorgeous outside, but HOT. I only got a few miles, then promptly dribbled on home.
