{{{czarcasm}}} I don’t think I’d be able to do what you’re doing. My heart couldn’t take all those too-soon goodbyes.
I used to get **Bobbio **and Doggio mixed up all the time.
If you think Nettie and Nellie are hard, wait until Sario comes back, if he ever does.
I can barely stay awake again tonight.
I can’t wait until irk is over and I can go to bed, where I probably will not be able to fall asleep.
Spent several hours making strawberry jam today. The farmers’ markets are open, and fresh berries available. Right after that, I got one of my infrequent ocular migraines. Man, I hate these. Besides the jagged green light and distorted vision, I also experience a mild headache and aphasia (garbled speech, which also translates to difficulty writing), and acute tiredness. Used to be, I only saw the lights and disturbed vision, but other symptoms started appearing a few years ago. Nothing wrong neurologically, according to the doc.
I’m sorry.
You are doing a wonderful thing.
It’s been quite a week.
Last week, in the midst of a shitty roommate conflict that I’m not going to get into (I mini-ranted about it), my roommate took her dog to the vet and they found a growth in her throat. The info I got was second-hand, so I didn’t know then and still don’t quite know, how much was reality and how much was dramatics, but the outlook was supposed to be quite grim. A $3,000+ endoscopy/biopsy and CT would tell us if it was operable, but it likely wasn’t, and even if it was, it was unlikely she’d survive the surgery. She had that today (it cost $800, not $3,000- still significant, but not impossible) and they removed 60% of it during the endoscopy. Biopsy results are, of course, pending, but apparently, the vet thought it looked more like there had been some injury or irritant like a bit of a stick or something than a cancerous tumor. So that’s good- I adore that dog.
I started PT and OT this week after weeks and weeks of waiting and trying to get in. It was good- the faintest glimmer of hope. But also exhausting and pretty painful.
And also… my landlady showed up today. Y’all, my house is owned by a couple, but it feels super weird to refer to them as my “landlord” and “landlady” like she’s wearing a gown and speaking in a posh British accent and he’s wearing puffy trousers and carrying a sword. Anyway- my landlady showed up to tear out part of my kitchen counter/cabinets. Surprise- they’re putting in a wheelchair lift so that I can get in and out of the house more easily. Knocking a hole in my wall tomorrow and putting a door in. This is amazingly kind and completely not something they in any way had to do (or anything I would have ever considered asking for). I have complicated feelings about it- obviously, gratitude. But I also feel guilty because I just rent this house and I hate to see them make modifications like that that are pretty specific to me. I brought that up and they said handicap-accessibility adds a lot of value for some people, which is true, but I do think having a wheelchair lift nobody needs might be a little off-putting to abled people, who would rather have the counter space. And, of course, I wish this weren’t even a thing anyone might consider necessary.
But anyway. They’ll be here at 7 tomorrow to do that. I anticipate a long day. There are a couple things I asked my roommate to do in preparation (move the table, move her litterbox, put her cats in her room, unlock the back door, move my car) and… I’m sure this will come as a shock to you, but she has so far not done any. So I’ll be up extra early tomorrow both to make sure I’m presentable and to try to get those things done/ask again to have them done before they arrive.
For now… lord, I hope I can get to sleep soon. I’m really hurting. Going to get up and get some water and switch out my ice packs and then find something to watch that will hopefully help… or at least provide a distraction.
'night, all. See you in the morning.
Uh-oh, I opened Pandora’s Box with my suggestion. I’ll humbly answer to whatever I’m called, provided I know it’s my nickname, but please, please, if I’m very good, not Pookie Butt! I mean, you don’t want to confuse red’s puppy, right?
Cookie (That’s chefguy, right?), what a coincidence! I got an ocular migraine today, too. I didn’t have garbled speech, though. So sorry you did.
shoe, you mean Pretzel might live?! Fingers will be crossed.
czarcasm, I salute you for taking in those kitties. (Do you have a nickname?)
Dorothy (sorry, forgot your nickname) the property owners would not do the modification if it were not to their ultimate benefit. Something like a wheelchair lift will add great value to their property. Just smile and say “Thank you!”
And maybe bake cookies!
PT hurts. It’s supposed to. If you have pain pills, use them.
I always name the PT folks after villains. I’ve had PT from Snideley Whiplash, Gollum, Lex Luthor, Maleficent, Cruella DeVil, and Morticia Addams. If you can laugh, it doesn’t hurt quite so much.
Okay, I lied. It still hurts.
Beckdawrek had her PT from The Wicked Witch of The West. Or was it Brunhilda?
~VOW
Awake with the allergies/ itchy nose. Benedryl has been consumed and hopefully sleep will continue. I have to run into irk tomorrow to do payroll but that will be a quick trip.
Ok back to sleep I hope.
Morning, mumpers! It’s another fine morning here, we had some overnight rain but not much and today it’s a bit sunny and a bit overcast. Breezy too, so that will help keep the house cool. Ours faces in all the wrong directions so we get the sun at the back of the house in the morning and the front in the afternoon, plus it’s a double-fronted house so lots of windows for that pesky sun to shine through.
Friday again, so that means someone’s going to come up with the Friday Afternoon Problem at some point in the day, and as my boss is off today it’ll be up to me to sort it out. Had one already with an academic who has given us marks for two 2,000 word assignments that should be a 50/50 weighting according to the way it’s been set up, but he has graded the two components as a 60/40 split instead. Cue academic blustering, and quality manager seething.
Monday is a bank holiday here so at least I have three days away from the lunacy!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 68 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 91 with a fifty percent or rain/tstorms/apocalypse this afternoon. The big item on today’s agenda is to assist with mowage over to the church house this afternoon beginnin’ around one. Weather may or may not cooperate. We shall see. Sup shall be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit. I foresee bein’ tahrd tonight.
As I mentioned yestiddy, I delivered masks to some co-parishoners. I really enjoyed doin’ that. Anywho, I got that done and got back to da cave just before the bottom fell out. Good timin’ on my part.
Dots yay for the landpersons makin’ those modifications. They will help you, and as others have pointed out, are a good investment for the landpersons.
Czar what a great thing y’all are doin’ for those poor kitties. There last days will be happy ones.
Shoe hope things go well with Pretzel at the vet.
MetalMouse yay for new mowin’ machine!
Nuts congrats on the exams. Now go be a productive member of society.
Sunny forgot to say, but good for y’all with Beamers skool! I guess havin’ MS ruled out is a good thing. Hope they find out whatever it is soonest.
Butters here’s hopin’ a few days in the horsepistol does Hubs good.
BooFae yay for completin’ and passin’ your course!
Bumba a truck is a good thing to have, so it might as well be a beast in good condition.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Firday Y’all!
Thanks. It’s not like she’s got any! <bah-dum tss>
Double-payday today, for the last weekannahaff of Prev. Job and the first two DAYS of NewAwesomePants Job. The latter is … more than half as much as the former.
<does math>
It’s a solid two-thirds. You guys. In two days, I made 2/3 as much as I used to make in a weekannahaff.
!!!
Full disclosure, by “did math” I meant “asked teh googlez.” I chuckle at the memory of the teachers who kept exhorting, “You won’t always have a calculator!” Heh. Predicted the future wrongly, they did!
On the other hand, I mutter, “Spelling counts!” at least every few days. You had teachers who said that, I’m sure. Ever typo a password? See, spelling countz!
The sky just opened here… again… I heard it start around 3:30, but it didn’t wake me. FCD had a terrible night and woke me a bit after midnight. He took his middle-of-the-night meds a wee bit early, but he couldn’t get comfortable in bed, so he returned to the recliner. I joined him, hoping we could doze out there, but that didn’t work, so back to bed it was.
Some time after 4, I dozed. When I woke, he was back out on the recliner and I felt like a zombie. Still do, but I’m up and dressed and I ate, and he’s back in bed, trying to sleep again. He’s got a tele-appointment with our GP this morning, and the PT is coming around noon. I’m pissed at his surgeon - he hasn’t called at all, despite us calling his office at least 3 times this week.
**sari **- my mom made the coddies. She sent me home with a couple of dozen. I know I’d helped her make them once, but I forgot the recipe. She’d cooked them all and froze them, so I just heated them in the air fryer - they were good.
Glad I mowed yesterday. I may do a load of laundry today, but I got all my hard chores done yesterday. Frankly, I just want to sleep, but having caffeinated, that ain’t happening. I foresee a long day.
Happy Firday!
Morning all. Got up at 6:15am, just in time to get the newspaper in before the tunder-boomers arrived (it’s tunder-booming as I type this). Looking at the radar, it appears I am in for a wet morning and possibly afternoon, so mowage yesterday was a good idea. Staying inside is indicated for today.
Heading for 83F today, so the AC may be brought into action. I like my house warmer than most, but when it gets to 79-80F, that’s a wee bit to much.
Dot, it could be you have really nice folks you’re renting from. Or, they could be planning to raise your rent (:eek:
;)). Just be happy for good things now.
Shoe, Yeah! on the new job pay and good wishes for Pretzel.
Tsar, Second the view that what you are doing is pretty special.
Vow, I once made a list of all the MMP’ers, but I lost it. May make another up one of these days and put it here, since we’ve had a fair number of new folks lately.
nellie, no problem, hey, we have to have something mundane to discuss here…
Cookie, ouch on the migranes. I used to have headaches (usually 1-2 a year) that were so bad I’d end throwing up. They went away a few years ago (I didn’t do or take anything), hope your’s get better over time.
OK, need to do a least a little productive work about the house. All y’all take care.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. The sky was briefly a weird shade of blue.:dubious: Phase 2 reopening starts at 5, so I shall grab provisions before the infected hordes surge forth.
Middle aged straight white dudes all look alike.![]()
And my one hockey friend who has an Aussie named Pookie.
You made a list?
Dot, good for the landpeople* doing an upgrade, even if it does benefit them, too.
{{{{Pretzel and shoe}}}}
Sorry, czarcasm. You’re doing a good thing for the kitties.
*Not to be confused with Sand People. They’re the worst.
My cat’s nickname is Pookie. The Other Shoe said she looked like a “Pookie” when she was a wee scrap of a mite.
For reasons involving leftover meat more than cowardice, we started to append “-Chicken” to her name.* Hence, NikkiChicken and PookieChicken … she answers to both.
- it was originally a title for food intended for feline consumption.
As in, “Is this roasted breast still any good?”
“Yeah, but … eh, imma make more. Give that to the cats - it can be Nikki-chicken now.”
I slept through a storm that apparently terrified my dog.
The Indian names of our dogs are “Drops Her Cookie” and “Cries a Lot”.
Shan’t… ![]()
I still have one more assignment to do, if only a little one, which is in two weeks. As you can imagine though, this isn’t the best time to look at future options. Everything’s still so up in the air, so very few places are hiring, and even the universities are all confused.
I’m fortunate in that I still have a bit of income coming in from irk, which I hope will run through til September at least, and I do, in an emergency, have savings. It’s not a great time to graduate though… There are options, but it’s all a bit complicated, really.
Howdy all. The rain and thunder have moved on (for now) and the house is a comfy 75F without the aid of any HVAC activity. Have not accomplished much outside of Sudoku and Jumble solving, but there is not much to accomplish today.
Need to forage for sustenance, everyone take care.
The search for drugs goes on. There is no oxycodone or percoset to be found in this county as far as we can tell. You can’t get any info from pharmacies unless you show up with a paper prescription in hand. FCD’s doc called a refill in, or maybe faxed it, but they couldn’t be bothered to tell us that it can’t be filled till next week. The PT did find out from the Walgreen pharmacist that everyone in the county is out of oxy. So the surgeon is supposed to call in another pain med - unfortunately, he can’t have any NSAIDs, and tylenol really doesn’t do much. I foresee a painful weekend. Dammit.
On the plus side, it’s nice enough outside that I’ve got the house open. So there’s that.
Happy Firday!
Chilly and rainy outside.
Was a short day at the park as I was the only one who showed up.
Then we had to chase Echo, I let her off leash to go from the truck to our gate and today she decided to run up the alley and explore the neighborhood.
I was walking back to get the truck to go get her when she decided to come home.
Since I had to go grocery shopping, we filled out our mail in ballots and stopped at the post office on the way. I also gassed up the truck. It was pretty close to empty. At least in this truck I can go down to the armpit and back on half a tank. I made two trips through the grocery store, one to get bottled water, and another to get everything else.
The yard is turning into a jungle but not much we can do in the rain. I wanted to order the same rocks I got last year for the yard and they are out of stock. I suppose I can order something else for out front.
