It seems most people here like Lord of the Rings. I found it long, dull, and overly verbose. And yet I read Lovecraft…
A lot of people talk about reality TV in the Meat World. I, however, find it vapid, backstabbing dreck.
What things do you dislike that most people love?
That’s exactly what I thought when I saw it. Granted, this was over 15 years ago; I’m due to see it again in a couple of months, so we’ll see if I like it any better now.
Along the same lines, I’ve seen many, many opinions to the effect that The Third Man is the best film noir/suspense film ever, and when I saw it, my reaction was “Meh”. I much prefer the original The Postman Always Rings Twice or Double Indemnity.
In honor of this thread’s originator, my first thing will be Pink Floyd. My brother was a Pink Floyd fanatic and hearing “All in all, it’s just another brick in the wall” about a thousand times really puts you off it.
I’ll add Dune. It would have been a great 200 page novel, but the extra 300 pages were painful to read. (I actually read this twice because everyone kept telling me how great it was)
and finally, pizza. I’ve had, on rare occasion had good pizza, but usually the cheese is over salty and they never put enough sauce on.
I can honestly say that you are the only person I have ever heard utter these words. Not that it bothers me, but it definitely suprises me. May I ask what you didn’t like about it?
I was never too crazy about Friends or Seinfeld.
I don’t like spaghetti.
And I will agree with the comments about Citizen Kane. I was pumped to watch it a few years ago to find out why it was considered the greatest movie of all times, and I just left it completely unimpressed.
I’ve always wondered if I’m the only one who doesn’t care for the Gene Wilder Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory movie musical. Granted, there’s one or two nice songs (I find “Pure Imagination” stuck in my head upon occasion), but the fact that the ever cheerful Oompa-Loompas in the book became dour-faced guys who always sang in a minor key put me off.
There are other reasons, but I’ll refrain for now…
Care to go on if I ask nicely, Robu? I just finished reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for the first time last night and am thus a little curious. Maybe start a thread for it if you don’t wish to hijack this one?
agreed. Floyd is without peer in my book, but I rarely find myself putting in one of their cds anymore, simply 'cause I’ve a lot of it so much I can pretty much just play it in my head. their pre-mainstream stuff is refreshing.
so am I really the only one who thinks The O.C. stands for “Overgrown Children”…?
