Orange Is the New Black -- Season 2 [OPEN SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON]

Yeah I just finished, I thought it was better than season 2. The ending was something else.

Usually women in TV show’s are kinda boring and never funny to me. (Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead women types) but this show, I think every character was great. I especially liked Morello and the ex leader of the meth heads.

She’d been getting the cold shoulder before (in fact, that’s what led her to popping the tit). After the incident, her husband told her they now owed Snobby Bitch’s husband the price of her busted fake tits, which is what put the bakery firmly in the mob’s pocket.

Many thanks, kobal2! Now I remember.

Having watched the first 2 episodes of the new season, I have come away with this:
Piper may be well and totally fucked. We both said, “Holy shit!” when Alex flipped on her. I can’t wait to see how this plays out, but I will have to wait until Monday for my husband to get back into town. I will not cheat on television like Larry!

I would have adopted Tastee (Tasha!) in a heartbeat. I’ve always liked a kid that had smarts, a smart mouth, and a good heart. I can see where her story is going, and I hope I’m wrong. But I don’t think that I am. It’s the only family she’s ever had. Sigh.
I just finished it and I loved it. I think I might like it better than season 1. I think one of the best changes was that I didn’t spend the whole time cringing in horror at everything that Piper did (and not in a judgmental way but out of kindred spirit). Not that she leveled up in smarts, but her new fish-ness wore off. Don’t get me wrong: I liked S1. I’m just glad they allowed her to grow and change in a natural way.

I laughed so much. The final moments of the last episode were amazing. Plus overall it was satisfying to see some good things happen to balance out the bad. I think dramedy is my favorite tone in shows because too much comedy and too much drama can be draining. Dramedy has that nice balance, and they usually have a dark sense of humor that matches mine.

IIRC she had better luck with the men, especially after she came up with the idea of getting the Russians contracts to supply produce to the Department of Corrections.

Spoilers for episode 2.

Her husband’s in deep shit now that they’ve lost the contract over the smuggling. I hope we see more of her family this season. I also loved Larry’s father taking him to a gay bathhouse just because he didn’t want to waste a coupon (& Larry’s slow realization of it).

Minor WTF moment for episode 1.

What was up with the weird coed setup in the Chicago prison? I can believe male & female inmates being housed in the same facility, wouldn’t they be kept in separate wings? They were sharing the same pod and allowed to interact surprisingly freely.

On a related note just what kind of prison is Litchfield; state or federal? Or is a state prison that houses federal prisoners under contract? Which would explain a lot.

Another spoiler for episode 2.

And how does this relate to *Mr *Figueroa’s bid for State Senate? It’s be delightly ironic (if completely unrealistic) if her embezzlement results in her becoming an inmate in her own prison. ;).

So I thought Pennsatucky’s new teeth were her price for agreeing to Healy. He asked her what would it take for her to agree to his version of what happened and then she was off to get new teeth. I haven’t seen anyone else comment to that effect just a lot of surprise that she could get such a perk when others couldn’t get things they need.

That pretty much ruined any minuscule chance she had of being accepted by the Russian ladies. And, as a “Fine”, her husband had to allow the boss use their business for some illegal activities. Red turned that around by making a couple business suggestions to the boss, and ended up being accepted by the boss and the husbands and Red’s husband took a more subservient role.

That’s the way I remember and figure it, anyway.

Okay, I’ve started it here.

I suggest we might keep this thread around to review and remember what happened in Season 1 and have an separate thread for each episode.

I’m really liking the season 2 Piper. I liked her in Season 1 as well, unlike many of you. I thought she perfectly suited her role, the total upper class naif who gets dumped into the bottom of the barrel. We weren’t SUPPOSED to like her or respect her. She wasn’t SUPPOSED to be the white superwoman. She was a perfect foil for what went on around her.

The only thing that bothers me about Season 2 Piper is that she is a little TOO together, the transition seems kind of abrupt. Would have liked to see her evolve a little more, and maybe some more regressions to her old, naive, emotionally vulnerable self. But that’s a nitpick, really.

Also

I’m totally not buying the return of Pornstache.
I wish they’d be a little less obvious about the way the plot is going. Evil Bitch Lady Prison Admin is clearly the one who is embezzling all the funds, to fund her husband’s political ambitions. Practically everyone on the staff hates her. They should all be eagerly be approaching the reporter to rat her out. Not happening. Are they all retarded? Seems like a bit of Idiot Plot.

And in addition:

Greatest line ever:
“You had to tell me that with your flaccid dick in my mouth?”

So I’ve been binge watching season 2 over the WE, and man it’s great. A million times better than season 1 IMO. Funnier, darker at times (I got misty quite a few times), less stereotypical (although some things still chafe). I like the flashbacks, though some left quite a bit out (like Poussey’s one - OK, so… why is she in prison, again ?).

You know who I’d really wish to learn more about, though ? Lorna and her speech thing. WTH is that about. Also old don’t-give-a-single-fuck Vietnamese lady, because she steals the few scenes she’s in, every time. Which might be how she landed in prison.

I really, really wish I was a woman or gay so I could use and abuse the follow up “Do NOT defend your boner to me right now” as well

Oh, I gotta say, I’m also happy about V’s character.

Don’t get me wrong, my heart bleeds as much as the next liberal pansy, but I think it’s good that among all these women who are basically decent people who made one bad mistake somewhere along the road; or who are/were struggling with issues we can empathize with (be it Tucky’s rage, Lorna’s cuckoo love obsession, Sophia’s gender issues, Nicky’s drug addiction…); there’s at least one now who’s just an out and out terrible person.
Alex is/was kind of that in season 1 I suppose, a snake in the garden, but then she didn’t compound it by making the people around her more terrible as well. In comparison, V’s just toxic sewage.
Can’t wait to see her flashback.
Interesting twist with the nun being a narcissist.

Black Cindy is the only character I dislike more after seeing her flashback. Every other character had “humanizing” back stories.

Suzanne has totally lost her mind under Vee’s spell. I despise her more for this than for breaking up Taystee and Poussey.

Speaking of Poussey, I loved discovering that she is a bougie Army brat. She has the swagger of a street kid, but it’s clear that it’s a put-on so she can fit in. Another one like this is Janae.
I’m sad that I only have one more episode to go.

OK, the 12th episode was awesome!
Why do people keep getting suckered by Vee, including myself? Guess we don’t have to worry about her anymore, though!

Poor Taystee and Poussey. The library scene brought tears to my eyes.

Fig’s gay husband thing was totally unexpected, but not in a good way. Feels kinda tacked on to me.
By the way, I don’t know why I said we don’t have to worry about Vee anymore. It’s like my mind can’t get over what it just saw and crazily transposed the characters.

I really hated where they took Crazy Eyes, my favorite character from Season One.

The reveal that Suzanne had assaulted Piper in the fight with Pennsatucky came as a shock, and her backstory confirmed her as the most tragic character in the series. But it was all defused by her transition from being impulsively and helplessly violent to being *willfully *violent as Vee’s stooge. And making Suzanne into such a snivelling, gibbering Igor to Vee’s Frankenstein was just too much.

I disgree. Because
I liked the way the very intelligent, manipulative psychopath Vee spotted Crazy Eyes’ behavior as indicative of loneliness and emotional vulnerability and immediately played into it by offering herself as a mother surrogate for Crazy Eyes. She knew that if she played her cards right it she would have a willing stooge who would do anything for her. And in the end, she’s proven right as Crazy Eyes allows herself to be set up for an assault that Vee actually committed.

Crazy Eyes was a lovable person despite her derangement, but she became a weapon in Vee’s hands. This seems reasonable to me.
Man, I hate having to spoiler box this stuff, we need a no-spoilers thread for all of Season 2, maybe all of the series period.

Just watched the last episode. I don’t have anything to look forward to anymore!
I love it. I loved how the entire prison rallied together to oust Vee. I also like how Healy was redeemed. For once, he did something good not for the sake of appearances, not to stroke his ego, but because he recognized it was the right thing to do.

Poor Suzanne. Even though the girls did go to bat for her in the end, they did that to clear their consciences. Not out of loyalty. They’re going to go back to ignoring the poor woman. It’s messed up what Vee did to Red, but the real crime was how she treated Suzanne.

I’m so glad Red didn’t die.

I predict that Nicky’s going to go back on that stuff.

I hope that Alex doesn’t land back in Litchfield. I don’t think I can handle any more unrealistic coincidences.

I really like Pennsatucky’s new haircut and how she seemed to be trying to do better, despite the provocations of the other hillbillies, who have yet to defy their stereotypes one bit. I wonder if they will be more fleshed out more in Season 3. I hope so.

I love Gloria the best. If I was at Litchfield, I’d try to pass myself off as Puerto Rican so she could be my play-play mother. She would put roots on my enemies and give me plenty of prune juice when the mail gets backed up. Plus, she knows how to pop her coochie for comedic effect.
I’ll change it to open spoilers – since I’m both OP and a CS mod, I don’t even need to ask anyone’s permission.

I think the reason for the Larry/Polly soap opera storyline was to clear the way for a full-on, guilt-free Piper/Alex romance in Season 3.

Which stinks, because I hate the Piper/Alex romance.
