Orange Is the New Black -- Season 2 [OPEN SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON]

I read this blog post and thought, yeah… could have been written by Suzanne.

Because kids are cruel to each other, and the stereotypical Spanish community is gossipy as all getout. Growing up, that kid’s bound to be taunted with “your mama got raped in prison, yeah your real dad’s a rapist, neener neener”.

They do seem involved in her life, visiting her, etc. It seems like the show is implying they made mistake but that they do care.

Yes, Suzanne doing Shakespeare for the Scared Straight kids is one of my fave moments last season. (Also, her bit with the mop.)

It is interesting that the reaction to her seems to range—on another site, commenters were responding that Suzanne was clearly troubled/ill because of how she was with her sister as a baby/the sleepover, but I saw that as more her being different. Clearly, she has mental issues, but I don’t know that what we saw was necessarily a warning sign.

I’m surprised by people thinking Suzanne’s problems are racial primarily. Come on, you’ve never seen a pair of do-gooders get way, way in over their heads? They adopted a special needs kid thinking they could totally handle it and they were so excited about it and they were going to save the world! And it turned out that it was a lot more than they could handle, and they couldn’t deal. Seriously, they didn’t let her hold the baby because they didn’t quite trust her, probably for perfectly good reasons. She wasn’t just an adopted child of a different race, she had pre-existing issues. Whether they acted appropriately in trying to deal with them or remained in denial about the whole thing isn’t something we have enough information to determine.

Just finished this last night…

I thought it was interesting looking at the first season and this one. They really walked back from Mendez being eeeeevil early on (seriously dude was the VILLAIN in most of season 1)and then by the end of the first season making him just kind of crazy. Then firmly planted him in the unlikable but comically enjoyable category for his brief appearances in Season 2.

They also walked back on Caputo–season 1 he’s jerking off in his office and then this season he’s the male hero.

We ended an episode with the female guard learning that Dya is pregnant and then she apparently doesn’t do anything with that information for a few days and then gets fired without saying anything to anyone.

I actually like the Larry and Polly story–once it was clear they were hanging out a lot I knew they’d have sex but I assumed it would have been Larry’s misplaced “revenge” on Piper–I didn’t think it would continue on.
