Order of the Stick - Book 5 Discussion Thread

And giving his word of honor and keeping it. Seems Lawful. It’s interesting that in 4e, Warlord is a Bard-related class. I could swear there’s a 3E version that’s similar, but I mis-recall where.

Well, he did push her out of a window. Probably nothing personal about it, but that’s the sort of thing that leads to really awkward Thanksgivings.

There’s the Marshal, a class designed to inspire allies, from the Miniatures Handbook; it got a little support in Complete Champion.

We haven’t seen him really directly involved with the slavery, and the bounty did pay off a lot more for alive than dead. Of course, on the other hand, we’ve only really seen him interact with his own son, so far, and said son happens to be a pretty likable guy to boot. Rich has written essays about how it’s perfectly possible for an evil person to have genuine friends he treats well, and the same is presumably true of family.

Thank you, MHaye, that’s what I’m thinking of.

New strip is up.

I love V and the lizard priest’s reaction.

Already posted. But yes, their little conversation is great.

New one is up! 725 The Significantly-More-Secret Origin of Tarquin and Nale - Giant in the Playground Games

Nice to see the Linear Guild in early action. Hi, Thog!

I like how he seems to enjoy being gnawed on by a dragon.

fighting fun. yay!

Good strip and all but I am starting to go through serious Belkar withdrawal.

Something I didn’t notice until it was pointed out on another forum; he said “after I left my first wife”…which implies at least one more. And possible half siblings, too.

By the way, did you notice *which *kingdom Tarquin conquered?

dun dun DUN!!!

Nice catch.

I’m not thinking it’s significant. Per the flashback, he didn’t last a year, and as you can see Nale is still a sprout as they’re taking leave of the place. Ian Starshine’s captors were sending Haley ransom notes at about the time a goatee’d Nale was attempting his hostile takeover of the Empire of Blood.

If that is a response to my post then I think you missed something. In strip #680 we see a kingdom change hands twice.

In #720 Tarquin talks about his own kingdom. Note the golden throne. Note the heads wrapped in white. It’s the same one.

Also, did you see that Nale already was sporting the beginnings of a goatee even when he was a baby? XD

Oh, I got that. But I thought you were leading up to a hope that Tarquin was the one who had Ian Starshine, and I was pointing out that the timeline didn’t seem to allow for that.

The timeline doesn’t allow for Tarquin to have been in power when Ian Starshine was captured (Starshine hasn’t been held captive for 15+ years, which is how long it’s been since Tarquin was deposed), but Tarquin could certainly be the one holding Starshine. He could easily be the one behind his kidnapping to boot.

In fact, given that this is a comic, I don’t see any way that Tarquin wasn’t behind Starshine’s capture and ransoming. The only question that will come out of this is whether this is all one massive coincidence or if Tarquin had some grand scheme in mind (although On The Origin Of PCs kinda rule out the latter).
