But it’s the style of the time! Off to downtown WP with me!
The Orlandope Spring 07 Festival of Cheer is now complete. Proceeding to Phase 2! Details coming later tonight.
Autolycus was the perfect host. Fun was had by all. (OK, I had fun, I guess I shouldn’t speak for everyone).
We went to Bosphorus for lunch which is this nice Turkish restaurant on Park Avenue. My husband and I discovered the joys (and the perils) of Roki which is a Turkish drink that tastes similar to Ouzo only better. The food was excellent. Thanks for suggesting it Auto I’ve been wanting to try it and I wasn’t disappointed.
After we left my husband (not a doper) commented that we seemed to be a very intelligent group of people but a bit on the geeky side. Can’t say that I’d argue with that.
I’ve got pictures, some courtesy of Joeski who offered to man the camera and a couple of group shots at the end. I’ll post the pics as soon as I can.
Lemme see if I can remember all who attended:
Autolycus our esteemed host
Your truly and my husband.
LadyFoxFire
Shibboleth
Ivylass

Rick and his lovely wife.
All together there were 11 of us.
It was ever to nice to meet all of you. Hope to see you again (in person) soon.
Sorry I missed it guys. I had some stuff from work come up and I completely forgot to even glance at my calendar. Oh well, next time it seems. Glad you all had a fun time!

Bumping from Boston, just like you to know that people outside of Florida enjoy updates.
Bumping from the other coast, just to let you know that we want pictures along with the updates.
bigbabysweets, you’re up late.
I’ve saved my photos in a Yahoo photo album here
Have at it. Enjoy.
If you are looking at either of the group shots here’s who’s who:
from left to right, front row:
Rick, Autolycus, Ivylads, Ladyfoxfire, velvetjones
back row:
Shibboleth, Nic2004, Ludovic
Sorry I didn’t get more pics of Ivylass, she’s in the group shot but not in the beginning shots because she was the last to arrive.
Joeski had to leave for a job interview and he took the shots in the beginning at Panera with my camera but I managed to get a couple of him. Very nice guy.
Thanks you guys, it was a pleasure to meet all of you and while I’m usually too shy to participate in this sort of thing I’m happy I made it and met all of you. You are some of the most interesting and intelligent people anywhere.
Rick and his wife are off to SeaWorld with our family and we will be back this evening to post out impressions of OrlandoFest . We really had a good time and loved meeting everyone.
Nic
I’m glad everybody had a good time, I did as well! I agree with your husband, velvet, we are very intelligent but wildly geeky. Most of us get along well enough with the public though
It was really nice to meet everyone, a long drive, but definitely worth it. We should do it again sometime soon!

Hey, we said 12:30p to 1:30p for the meeting time! I got there smack in the middle of that window!
(That’s okay, the camera probably would have broke if you’d taken more than one picture of me )
The Turkish restaurant was lovely, I didn’t know there was such an animal in the middle of Winter Park. Parking is a bit of a challenge, but it was a nice walk and I enjoyed the hell out of meeting everyone. I learned Auto has had some interaction with my BIL’s business and Ludovic works for a company that is one of my company’s vendors, although not in the same field…his company covers a whole slew of things.
I wish I could stayed longer! I wanted to talk to everyone more.
And I really dig those pictures of me. It occurred to me on my drive over to Sears that someone was going to post a picture of me I hadn’t personally reviewed. Imagine the horror! I could have been wearing a goofy expression and not known it. Thankfully this isn’t the case and they’re both keepers. Kudos on the title for the picture with the camera duel. I like to think I would have done well in the Wild West.
It’s probably for the best I forgot my own camera, otherwise I would have snapped a thousand plus pictures and freaked everyone way out .
The interview was…well, rescheduled after about an hour of waiting. Apparently one of the positions that store was hiring for was a Human Resource Manager since theirs had left about a week ago. This was the guy that interviewed everyone, so the line for potential new recruits was backed up. While waiting I noticed they had marked an opening for a Loss Prevention employee on a chart, something that wasn’t mentioned as being an available spot online. I eventually chatted with a manager, asked him about it, and he told me the guy who’d speak with me about THAT position wouldn’t be in until Wednesday for interviews and he’d reschedule me for then to see where I fit in best. Yarg.
The only problem a photographer is going to have taking a picture of you is trying to get the camera to stop automatically zooming in. You’re not breaking any cameras.
I’ve been enviously watching this thread all along. Looks like y’all had a really great time.
:o
Sorry about the interveiw…but you wanted to work at that movie theater anyway, right?
I’m sorry about the interview too, mostly because you didn’t get to stay and have lunch with us. You didn’t want to work there anyway (though loss prevention sounds like a better job than selling appliances) so here’s hoping the movie theater job comes through for you.
You definitely have to go back to Bosphorus when you can have lunch or at least an appetizer. The food was very good.
:smack: :smack: :smack:
Well, this obviously slipped right off my radar. Can I blame it on old age?
Since you’re living in “blueharia” I think you can use that excuse for just about anything you happen to forget.
Sorry you didn’t make. I’m sure we’ll do it again some time.
It was great to meet you and your husband that day. How’d the gig go on Sunday? I wish we could have made that but the plans for Sea World were already set and vacation time for Rick was severely limited. Maybe you can keep us posted on up-coming gigs that we may be better able to attend.
ivylass- It was very nice to meet you as well as ladyfoxfyre. You ladies support the idea that we have the prettiest lady posters of any Board.
joeski- Sorry to hear you didn’t get the job after having to leave early no less. Better luck with the next one. Hopefully it will be the one that makes you happy to have missed the first one.
Shibboleth- We didn’t get time to talk as much as I would have liked. I get the feeling you are a very funny guy. I also would have liked to hear more about the many places you’ve been in the extensive travels you mentioned.
Autolycus- As I said that day, I appreciate you taking the ball and running with it on this meeting. The choice of restaurants was great… right up to my eating that great big pepper I mistook for something that wouldn’t set fire to my face. Good luck with that long distance relationship.
Ludovic- Being on opposite ends of the table made talking to you difficult but it was very good to meet you.
Thanks to all. It was a really good time.
Nic
Thanks Nic2004, it was nice to meet you too. The gig was good. Hot as a mofo but good (we were outside, no covering or shade) . They liked us very much and want to use us again when they have their fall Vinofest in October. I didn’t get to eat or drink much but I have to say the food looked awesome and there were dozens of wines to taste.
If you’d like to be regularly updated on our where abouts you can always send me an e-mail (em’s in my profile) and I’ll add you to my mailing list. I send out a reminder about once a week listing where we’re playing.
I can’t believe I missed it!
I was at a wedding
It was a good time and great people. You should make a point to be there next time. The more the merrier.
