Oscar watch-along thread

We’re paying tribute to HORROR?

God help us all… I think I am out of step with the rest of the world. What’s next–Lifetime achievement for Chucky or Freddy Kruger?

And it just goes on and on…

Oh, good, just what we needed: a horror montage. Thanks Twilight douchebag!

I didn’t think Twilight films were horror, but man were those two actors scary during their presentation.

Nice to see Horror getting SOME recognition for once. I hope they show a clip of The Strangers in this montage…that’s the scariest movie I’ve seen in recent memory.

Or maybe the hosts and presenters are saying “retard”.

I’m doing very poorly in the pool this year. 6-6 so far. Worst year in recent history.

Zac–COMB your hair!

I do love Morgan Freeman.

All of these choices were made in the design of the casual viewer. By and large, most regular people don’t particularly care about the lifetime achievement award. I mean, think about it. If you’re a casual viewer, you probably think the Oscars are elitist and esoteric. So to pull in that audience, they increase the best film categories to 10 choices, do a montage to John Hughes, and a tribute to Horror films which NEVER get nominate. Also, that wasn’t just all of horror movies. There was no Nosferatu, Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Diabolique, Salo, no Dario Argento, no Polanski, etc. This was pretty much a tribute to 1970s -2010 American Horror and Psycho.

Demographics.

Nice, starting to catch up. The Hurt Locker HAS to be watched on a DTS 5.1 system.

It was the first time I ever considered Edward Scissorhands to be a horror movie.
Could a woman please wear a gown that has sleeves? I have nothing against sleeveless, strapless dresses, but it’s getting boring.

Oh, john Revolta is on now. Ugh.

I got skunked on the sound awards. I went with Avatar for the tech sweep.

Great, the sci-techs got a class picture

…and the San Juan station is consistently squeezing in one additional ad, and running over the start of the segment.

Wow, this looks more and more like a slam dunk for Hurt Locker.

OK, so why did those “Twilight” people say it’s been 37 years since a horror film has been recognized at the Oscars (The Exorcist), and then in the montage showed clips from several films of recent years that have won & been nominated for awards, including Best Picture? (Silence of the Lambs, The Sixth Sense, Misery, Sleep Hollow, etc.)

Am I a weird person to wish that the Sci-Tech awards were televised?

“Bawn-jerno.”

Wow, way to go, ruining Inglorious Basterds’s whole plot during that clip. Everything short of Hitler getting gunned down by Ryan the Temp…

To quote from a different message board I am also monitoring:

"One of the really helpful decisions ABC made this year was showing all the pivotal scenes from the best picture noms, even those that are at the end of the movie.

That way you don’t need to watch the movie if you haven’t seen it yet."

IMO, HL will get everything BUT Best Pic.

I couldn’t figure that out, either.
