Oscar watch-along thread

Ah, but you see, those are Dramas! Or action movies (Jaws). Oh, no, not “horror”…

SO THEN WHY SHOW THEM IN THE “HORROR” MONTAGE??

Scary =/= “Horror”. It was a tribute to scary, not to Horror.

I watched Hurt Locker because of the hype.
I DID NOT GET IT.

can someone please explain WHY.

That is all. Why. The movie did nothing.

The acceptance speeches for the Lifetime Achievement Awards were always some of the best parts of the ceremony. Here, for instance, is Satyajit Ray accepting the award from his deathbed. Or here is Stanley Donen doing a little song and dance and explaining how to produce a movie.

Yes, there was. There was a quick shot of Max Schreck (1922).

Yeah, I’m a little pissed that they kinda spoiled District 9 for the many people who didnt see it and probably would have wanted to, given the Oscar bump.

I think that Coke commercial about recycling featured a song by one of my favorite bands The Boy Least Likely To… Good for them! I love when bands I love get popular and on ads and stuff.

Hint: It isn’t an action movie, despite appearances.

Dead call!

And naturally, for the art of cinematography, they don’t show any clips of the nominees.

Eli Roth gunned down Hitler. Ryan the Temp didn’t really do much, he got busted by the Nazis outside.

If Cameron wins, what are the odds that he screams, “I’M THE KING OF PANDORA!!!”?

I caught it as a double-feature with Inglorious Basterds at the drive-in. That was one intense night of movie watching.

I agree that it’s not an action movie. I’m not quite sure how to put what I thought about it, but I think the threads that have been made previously capture it.

I will play along with you.
If it wasn’t an Action movie, then what was it?
And that is my point exactly.

No action. No nothing.

He’s addicted to the adrenalin and to living on the edge of death. So much so that he can no longer feel alive when he goes back home and has to return to Iraq to get his fix.

That was done fairly well. I like how they combined the audio with the song. I like James Taylor and the Beatle’s classic holds up well.

And now the part of the show where I yell at the TV, incredulously, “WHEN THE HELL DID SO AND SO DIE??!!”

The So and So’s from this year’s roll:
Dom DeLuise
Ron Silver

I feel so out of it when that happens…

The format of the last couple of years - performer onstage taking attention away from the clips of the departed, muted applause so that the TV audience doesn’t notice who got dissed posthumously - doesn’t really do it for me.

When the presenter was Demi and the music for her was Unchained Melody we knew the first one would be Patrick.

They should have timed it so Malden’s “Amen” came after Taylor finished.

Ok. This gives me enough to illustrate my point.

Who doesn’t have an addiction of one kind or another?

I mean, for me, as the movie was, it was about a guy simply going to work. He just happens to be above average at what he does.

dancers on screen - bathroom break for millions…

And since the Oscars NEVER run over time, we apparently have time for some odd break dancing combined with nerdy sweaters and Morgan Rum moves…

Excuse me–I used the term dancers before. I meant gymnasts.
