Just because the man Norwegian doesn’t mean he couldn’t be Muslim-look at Jihad Jane over here for example.
From what I understand from speaking with a local Norway expert, the police seem to think this might have been homegrown terrorism from extreme right-wing factions. And if it is, it wouldn’t be the first time Muslim terrorist groups have taken responsibility for attacks they had nothing to do with. But again, it’s too soon to tell for sure.
The arrested man is a norwegian citizen, ethnically norwegian, 32 years old.
The confirmed number of deaths is 17 total, but it may rise in the coming hours.

They are searching for the missing children with dogs in the dark, because some of them may lay dead in the woods, or drowned while attempting to flee. These are children as young as 13. It’s too horrible for words.

I can’t imagine what the parents of those missing kids must be going through…hope all unaccounted for people are found alive.
The shooting at the youth camp suggests this as well. I can see Al Qaeda setting off cars bombs in the capital, but targeting the young members of a specific political party suggests someone with an agenda more specific than just punishing Norway.

I’m amazed at the information you guys are coming with, I’m traveling right now and the local news just mentioned, after the international terrorism angle was found to be very unlikely by 3 or 4 hours, that this has all the fingerprints of an Al-Qaeda attack :smack:

cnn just reported that police in norway are saying the numbers of dead could take a large leap upward. there are 17 confirmed, but police are reporting that it could climb to 80. gut gott.
a man who was on the island said the gunman started shooting where the boat landed. also that the water temp. is very cold, anyone trying to swim away could be in trouble very quickly.
CNN puts the current death toll at 87 - 80 on the island, 7 in the bombing.
