Oslo dopers, check in please. Is everyone safe?

Call her.

I’m surprised that CNN really has very little information so far. Apparently no group has claimed responsibility yet, but it sure looks like a terrorist attack.

sounds like she is at one of the buildings next to mine. I felt the explosion quite clearly.
Call her.

Not sure if this has already bee nposted, but The Guardianhas a good auto updating feed.

The youth camp shooter has been taken into custody.

Gukumatz is okay.

And we’ve had a bomb scare near downtown here today - not a good day for it.

(((Oslo Dopers)))

Seven dead and two more in critical condition.

And the link between the bombing and the youth camp shooting has now been confirmed by police - it seems to be a coordinated attack.

Aftonbladet from Sweden is reporting fatality numbers from the youth camp shooting that are so high, I’m sincerely hoping it’s a false report and/or a case of panicked witnesses who were mistaken about what they thought they saw.

You mean the report about 25-30 dead kids floating in the water? I hope it’s false too, it must be. There was only one man there, how could he kill so many? I just…I don’t know what to think.

Those poor kids may have drowned in their panic.

There’s been a call for all blood donors with type O to report for duty, so I’m on my way to the hospital.

That link cites the New York Times for a claim of responsibility by Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami (the Helpers of the Global Jihad). There appears to be some mention of retaliation for the cartoons published a couple of years ago, as well as Norway’s support of the war in Afghanistan.

Also looks like people are trying to swim off the island where the youth camp incident happened.

The shooter is said to “look Norwegian.” I don’t know what that might do to the claims of responsibility by the Islamic group, or if the identification of his appearance is mistaken, or what.

I, too, am hoping the eyewitness to the shooting is incorrect about the number of bodies.

Damn. It appears as if no place on earth is safe from terrorism. This hits close to home for those of us in the United States for obvious reasons. I hope the death toll doesn’t get any higher and that those who perpetrated these atrocious acts are brought to justice swiftly. We got our revenge on Osama, but that doesn’t mean the end of terror in our world.

Police are denying the higher number of deaths, but won’t release the correct number just yet. It seems as if 10 or so is the likely number, bringing the total up to 17. These last ones believed to be mostly teenagers. I’m too shocked to cry, but will probably get there in the coming days.

The man in the police uniform (NOT a real policeman) was spotted downtown before the blast, so the link between the attacks seems more and more likely.

In slightly brighter news, there was such a crowd at the blood bank, people must have rushed to their cars as soon as the call came. There was a line of cars for severe blocks, and a line to donate. It looks like we can do this whole “pulling together” bit too. I didn’t get to donate, but it looks like the need will be covered, thank the gods.

Er…haven’t spoken to her in nine years since she ran off with someone else. Safe to say I don’t have a phone number for her. I’m more worried about her kids from marriage #2; my ex was widowed two years ago when her new husband died of cancer, so for the kids’ sake I wouldn’t want anything to happen to her.

I’ve got a family source who will make a quiet check.

The Guardian is reporting that police are telling NTB that they don’t believe this is international terrorism. But that’s based on one Norwegian Broadcasting Company employee’s Twitters.

I am very sorry to see what is happening in Norway and I hope that our worst fears are not realized. History has shown Norwegians are a brave society when put to the test, and yet as a nation have most always tried to do the right thing.

Sadly an attack on Norway helps set back rational progress in our current worldwide conflicts. I hope responsible parties are few, identified, captured and prosecuted. Like a civilized society should.
