Other than CNN/FOXnews, what is your online news source?

I am a little tired of the above two, and need some new newsites.

Please include a link, SASE and $3 for s/h.

I usually hit (along with CNN and FoxNews) the BBC, the Times of London (it’s nice to get a different perspective on the news, y’know?), and (for local news) The Dallas Morning News. Google has a link on their front page for “News and Resources” with all the news links you’ll ever be able to read. I occasionally check one or two of these out, too.

The Washington Post, Yahoo! News Most Popular, The BBC, and Fark.

For political news, try Orvetti.com, Cq.com, Politicalwire.com and Stateline Politics. They give you a lot of political news the WP and NYT, who have great national political coverage, don’t get to.

I check out Disinfo for the non-commercial views, I check KurzweilAI for Transhuman related news, Science Daily and Artigen for science related news.

For kicks I head over to Richard Hoagland’s website to see what new lies those bastards over at Nasa are trying to get away with.

DaLovin’ Dj

Another Yahoo! Full Coverage person here.

More of a newsblog, but when I’m not reading Fox’s site (my fav) I’m here.

Late night monologues.

If it’s worty knowing about, then Jay Leno and David Letterman are going to joke about it.

I enjoy my subscription to Salon.
When I want to investigate something a bit deeper, I do some grazing at Newslink.org to see what newspapers around the world have to say.

You can also set up your own news site at CRAYON, Create Your Own Newspaper.

The Portal of Evil reports Evil news.

I’ll also vote for BBC. I finally just got SO sick and tired of the way CNN can’t seem to separate “news” from “showbiz/entertainment”. Everything became too sensationalized (and they would try to jump the gun and report news before really verifying - a few “breaking stories” were way off base.) I started finding CNN coverage to be truly infuriating.

Now I try for more global perspectives. So it’s BBC, sometimes the Guardian, the Globe and Mail, and for U.S. sources, the Washington Post or New York Times.

Always seems to have things a day or two before the “big” news sources.

> The BBC for general news.
> Ananova (Press Association) for rolling headlines (although it’s getting worse).
> The Register for IT news.
> The Guardian for in-depth features and analysis.

I’m an Eastern Europe/FSU news fanatic, so Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty online at:

My number one news source is this place called the SMDB. It automatically filters out the uninteresting stories, and connects me instantly to well-written, high quality articles. It also provides a interactive discussion of newsworthy topics with highly intelligent people. I not only read the news there, I develop a better understanding of late breaking issues and can ask any questions that might not be instantly understandable. I highly recommend it. I’ve got a link around here somewhere… I’ll post it if I find it.

Neptune, thanks for a very cool web site. This kind of odd ball story stuff just feeds my odd ball sense of perversity.

I thank you all for your contributions. I wish you God/Whatever Speed. Good night.

As does Slainte, I visit the Drudge Report, partly because he does occasionally break a story, but more so because the site is basically a large collection of links to various news sources.

**Fibonacci ** this CRAYON site is loads of fun.

**Eva Luna ** thanks for the RFE stuff. I have a friend who I think would like it very mucho.

Slashdot

I like listening to Deutsch Welle, Radio Netherlands, and of course the BBC via shortwave (no streaming audio for me, thanks) as it has that sort of ‘hair shirt’ element that I love.

I’ve used Nando since I first logged on using Lynx, it was all text, no graphics of course. Sure as hell loaded up fast, though. Still a great web site for good news.
