Our Catholic cardinal: open mouth, insert foot

The only thing that the three residents of the Dominican Rep. that post on this board probably have in common is this: we all loathe the cardinal. I have a long list of grievances against him, but since some are old I bring you the new ones in the list:

From the April 7 news:

From the April 12 news:

I am not good at this cussing thing, and the only thing that comes to my mind would get me banned if I utter them, I just have to send a healthy FUCK YOU! to our cardinal.

Sorry, I needed to get that out of my chest.

Hot darned! I forgot to attribute my quotes. They were taken from www.dr1.com. They archive the news every day, but I am subscribed to the archives. And no, I didn’t quote the whole thing, just a fragment of it.

And one of the shows that the “inconsequential, superficial, light, clowns, uncultured and without brains” people were going to attend was Sting at concert and a Mark Anthony concert. Not that this supports or not his accusation.

Makes me wonder if our old pastor faked his death and slipped off to Santo Domingo.

His beef is that Dominicans are not sufficiently intolerant towards homosexuals. Mind you, it is not like we are the most enlightened people, but goddammit, nothing short of torches and pitchforks would do for him.

He says there’s nothing for the homosexuals there? It makes me wonder just HOW he knows this for sure!

Not really related to your rant, but the name “Nicolas Lopez Rodriguez” rings a bell and I just can’t figure out why I would be familiar with the name of a Dominican cardinal. So, I’m wondering :

Did he do something worthy of international news? Does he hold some particular office? Was he a “papabile”? Is there somebody else famous going by the same name?

He was one of the conclave that chose the new pope in 2005.

Everybody who doesn’t celebrate Easter is missing their legs?
All animals are missing two legs?
People who are missing their legs live like animals?
The seat of understanding is… the legs?

Cardinal, please go a little easier on the waccy baccy, the rest of us might want some.

And just how many legs is an animal supposed to have  ?

Why yes I do have a deadline looming, how did you guess?

At the beginning I thought that the DR1 News people must have mistranslated his statement. I checked the news sources in Spanish and what he said makes almost as little sense in the originall Spanish (but it is easier to understand what he meant when you read it in Spanish).

He needs a crash course on grammar too.

Sorry, missed this.

He’s never done anything of consequence, except, in my opinion, for sticking it to the homos and living the life of a jet-setter.

Our Catholic Cardinal sounds like a wacky '50s sitcom.

“Oh, Caaaardinal! You got some 'splaining to do!”

Ooh…I can see it now! Our Father Conklin, starring Gale Gordon and Eve Arden!

Wasn’t that true of every Cardinal under 80? There’s quite a flock of them funky birds, y’know.

Your Cardinal, even with his advanced and angry homophobia, is a mere piker. Here, we’ve got Father Gerald Robinson. Jury selection is currently underway for good old saintly Fr. Gerry. He stands accused of a 1980 strangling murder. And stabbing the victim at least 27 times in the neck and chest. The victim is 71 year old Sister Margaret Ann Pahl. On the day before Easter. In the sacristy of his church. Wrapped up the body in an altar cloth. Real Godly guy, the father. He’s wearing his vestments to court. What a peach.

Fascinating.

Mrs. Bricker can’t stand him either.

I think you mean Father Coughlin. Maybe?

Jet-setter? Extremely conservative? Without searching I guessed right away that he is from the Opus Dei.

Yep, did not need to search that far:

Yeah, I got a couple of consonants mixed up.

And now convicted. The jury “deliberated” for all of four minutes. Father Robinson spoke not a single word in court - not during the trial, nor after the verdict when the judge gave him an opportunity. What a lovely, lovely man.

And there’s more. The original investigators of the case, back in 1980, are urging the County Prosecutor to investigate further. There are accusations (and indications) of a cover up perpetrated by the cops and the diocese.
