Our Visit to New Orleans, or a What Hath Katrina Wrought MMP

It’s okay, rigs. I’ve never been Pitted, either. I occasionally wonder what I would be Pitted for, if anyone ever did it. What? Doesn’t everyone think about stuff like that late at night?

I’m baking brownies. They smell great. In about twenty minutes I should get started on dinner. Do we just want salad and pita, or should I fry some potatoes or something? Mmm, starch. Maybe I should.

Well, thus far Papa Tigs has been home for 45 minutes and has yet to notice my hair. Which, instead of being partially grey and partially muddy brown and well below my shoulders (see my “Gloria” photo in the OP), is now a lovely swinging bottom-of-the-ear length and colored with a nice russety-brown shade. (No photo yet.)

We shall see how long he continues to fail to notice.

VWife is in the horsepistol. She rear-ended someone this morning, and has 11 ribs broken in 16 places becase the airbags didn’t deploy, and she hit the steering wheel. There’s also a grapefruit sized hematoma on her left knee, and fluid around her pancreas that could be lupus, or bleeding. Definitely overnigh tonight, but maybe tomorrow night, to.

The Family Truckster may be fixable, but is seriously screwed up right now.

When I have more time, I have a tale to tell about helping restrain a psycho while I was in the ER today. It’s always a good day when I get in trouble doing a good deed…

Ooh, Bob! I’m so sorry! Prayers and good thoughts headed right out.

Ouch! Prayers and good thoughts headed out from here, too, Bobbio!

I’ll keep Vunderwife in my prayers.

Holy crap, Bob! I hope everything heals up quickly and there aren’t any more crazy complications. ::crosses fingers::

Went to Target this afternoon after work in search of panties and socks. I spend about half an hour trying to interpret the craziness that is the giant wall of prepackaged panties, and pick out two different packages. I get in line, grab a Coke Zero and some Orbit gum, purchase my stuff, and leave. I get home, and unwrap both panties packs very carefully. The first set says they’ll stretch out to a decent size, which doesn’t bother me. I’m gonna be getting smaller over the next few months with a combination of a workout buddy in the house and better access to healthy foods. The second set, however, unfurls to the largest pair of panties I’ve ever seen that claim to be both “my size” and “low rise.” Uhm, they looked like high cut briefs that were made for someone two sizes larger. Thank goodness I’m so careful about unwrapping these things, because now I can return them and brave the panty section again. Also, can anyone explain to me why Hanes is making ladies’ panties that are modeled after the seaming on men’s briefs and boxer briefs? I don’t exactly think my panties need to be butch in structure, but colored with the most girly and flamboyant of colors. (I used to know a very twee homosexual man named Dustin who wore Disney Princess themed clothing. He would have loved them.)

What. the EVERLOVIN’ Fuck, Bob. I’ve seen shitty days, but yours tops the list, as of late. Hope the Missus heals up soon. I’ve had both multiple broken ribs and Kneematoma. They both suck. (Tell her to go for the needle aspiration on that knee).

Hoping your tomorrows achieve less suckosity.

I do lift heavy things and open doors. I’m all nice and shit.

Hey, stop laughing!

Sorry to hear about VunderWife. Here’s to a speedy recovery.

Oh man Bobbio sorry for the bad day…speedy recovery to the wifey and the truck!

Guess what I found out today…the Cali city I now live in has a Trader Joes!

Guess what I am doing after work today…going to Trader Joes!

Hugs and big huge MWAH type kissess to all those that need BooBoos fixed and stuff

Eek! I thought my day was bad. Prayers for you and your wife, VB.

Wow, Bobbio, I’m sorry to hear that. Hope VWife is all better real quick-like. Good thoughts and prayers headed in your direction.

It’s like this, LOUNE. When you say “I’m all nice and shit,” it creates…hmmm…a smidgen of disbelief. Which makes one think twice about adoption. You should, instead, be practicing your biggest fake smile and be saying things such as: “How can I be of service this afternoon, madam?” Of course, we’d probably laugh at that too. ::Giggles::

On a more serious note, sounds like what Michigan was like when my brother graduated a few 25 years ago. He wound up moving to New Jersey and living at his in-laws’ for a while. His first couple jobs were crappy, but he eventually got into a very good career. And he was a liberal arts graduate too. Have you looked in Ohio? Not too far from home, but at least in Columbus, the economy isn’t awful (not necessarily great, but definitely better than Detroit). And the cost of living isn’t ridiculous. Peace Corps sounds good too, though.

Hope you’re feeling better, Hank.

Congratulations on the pitting, Kalhoun. We’ll all live vicariously through you as we’re unlikely to be victims. (I can see it now: "I pit RandomMMPer because s/he was just a bit too nice, dammit!) Whatever.

I nominate smallninjachef for LILI’s baby. Which reminds me…have you started to talk about names? Never too early! You’ll want to avoid being like my brother, whose son was named the day after he was born after we sat around the hospital room making a list of various name combinations. I didn’t win. :frowning: But I like what they named him, so it’s OK.

Congrats on the labor win, MBG. I know you put lots of work into it.

Oooooh oooooh oooooooooooooooh, I almost forgot! I had this big enormous majorly important meeting today that I’d been dreading for months (it’s the culmination of the stress I’ve been living with lately). I was all prepared (which made me eerily calm yesterday), but got very nervous and ick the hour before the meeting. And then it went AWESOMELY SMOOTH.

It’s kind of scary, really. There were well-founded reasons for me to be paranoid about this meeting and we worked really hard on being prepared, but still. My boss told me I kicked butt. And the colleague who helped me out the most in preparing told me I did a really good job too. So YAY!!!

So, as a reward, I got to go look at plants. YAY!!! And did I mention…YAY!!!

It’s almost Friday!!!

GT

Vunderwife: Ow.

Hoping she starts feeling better, and fast!

Holy shit, **Bobbio! ** Good thoughts headed to you and wifey. I hope your wife recovers quickly!

It’s been a crazy couple of days, so I’ve been absent here on the boards. Not that any of you noticed, right. :dubious:

Work is a little better, but I’m just going in, doing my thing, and trying to keep an upbeat attitude.

My hubby is SUCH a dork! He called me today and said, “Your birthday is on the 17th, right?”. I replied, “Noooo, it’s on the 19th; why?”

He has apparently decided to have a party on that day and had already invited people. A BIIIG party. I said, “Greeeeaaaat, so I I get to spend my birthday cleaning, huh?” He told me he’d jump in and do it, but, well, I know I’ll be doing a good portion of it.

Mr. Taters is just awful with dates. He has a hard time keeping them squared away.

Lissa, do keep away from pesticides and stuff like that, please. That also means heavy duty cleaning chemicals. Rest often, and eat small meals throughout the day.

Trust me, when the baby actually comes, you’ll never know a full night’s sleep again. Not even when the “baby” is 17. I still wake up at the slightest rustle from the kids’ bedrooms.

Congrats gt! I’m glad your meeting/presentation went well. It’s always so satisfying when hard work pays off like that.

Rosie! I’m glad you popped in, even if only briefly. I hope your recovery continues and that it’s speedy.

Hubby wants to game now. I guess I better go for now.

Hugs to all!

VunderBob, I’m keeping VWife in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. {{{{{hugs}}}}}

Well, I shouldn’t have threatened the bus gods this morning; while I was able to get to work nearly on time, when I left this afternoon they conspired against me again! When the bus I was waiting on hadn’t arrived after nearly 30 minutes (and the next one wasn’t due for another 30 min.), I took the one that did come, which was going in the opposite direction. Naturally, as soon as that bus had gone down the street and turned the corner, there was my bus :smack: I ended up going way out of my way, spending extra $$ to ride the subway home, then caught a cab from the subway station. Oh yes, the taxicab gods conspired against me too: the cab’s meter wasn’t working, according to the driver, so I had to pay what he told me to pay. Gah! I should have made him give me a receipt, gotten his cab number, and then reported it to the hack commission. :frowning:

At least tomorrow is (finally) Friday.

Aw VBob that is so awful. My best to your wife, and you too, of course. You’re both in my thoughts and prayers.

Ouch! Broken ribs are very painful. Does she need a chest tube? What’s up with that airbag? You two are in my thought, Vunderbob

Something has happened to my fonts. I didn’t change a thing, but now my typing looks all funny. I don’t know what my previous setting was, so that’s no help. I don’t like it! I am a creature of habit and this is distressing to me. I’m on a Mac-and I use Safari and FF. I finally figured out my email font (that had changed too–why, why?), but am at a loss for here. Anyone have any clues? Thanks.

Heck, my “baby” is over 30 now and I still wake up at the slightest odd noise. I think once you learn that “listen to 'em 24/7/365” mode, you never entirely shake it again.

And LiLi, it’s never too soon to start working on growing that third arm. What third arm, you ask? You know, the one all moms have! How else do they juggle junior and all the equipment and a full load of groceries simultaneously? And it’s not too soon to work on growing your eyes in the back of your head, either – you won’t need them till junior is self-propelled, but that day arrives far sooner than you expect!

Thus far we’re at 3 hours and counting that Papa Tigs has utterly failed to notice my entirely changed hair. I guess I’m going to not say anything until either (a) he finally wakes up and notices or (b) the charge from the salon hits the bank account, whichever comes first. I’m fully expecting it to be (b).

I hope the VunderSpouse heals quickly and as painlessly as possible - she will be in my thoughts; you, too, VB - I know how stressful it is when someone you love is hurt.
Even if the truck is repairable you need to get those airbags checked out.

Went to a Catfish game tonight - they’re a farm team for Tampa Bay. Had a good time with a bunch of girls (I was the oldest by about 6 years) checkin’ out players’s butts, but baseball isn’t hockey. I was amused because I was recognized by a lot of the staff that also works the hockey games. Am I that memorable?
