Our Visit to New Orleans, or a What Hath Katrina Wrought MMP

How dramatic! And Wow-ski for being in the right place at the right time. That rarely happens to me. How’s Mrs. VB feeling today?

VBob where you at a hospital in Norfolk? I thought Suffolk or even Chesapeake General would be closer to Mayberry.

I’ve been a terrible MMP’er … but I wanted to submit good wishes and prayers for Mrs. Bobbio! I hope she heals quickly and fully!

She thinks posting regularly on an internet message board is too geeky. :dubious: This from a girl who speaks Latin, watches Battlestar Galactica, can recite pages of Shakespeare by heart, and used to write fan fiction.

Morning, everyone! Vbob, what a story. Hospitals can be so frustrating sometimes - one of my friends just had a horrific episode involving his grandfather and a negligent hospital staff.

Has **Spats ** been around lately?

Have a lovely Friday, everyone!

Haze tell Scottish Darling that while it is geeky to post a lot on most of the message boards, it is not geeky to post to the Dope. Especially to the MMP, cause that’s where all the cool kids are. It’s really that simple.

GRRRRRRRRR… Do not tell me you’ll be somewhere in half an hour and then get upset with me if I leave after waiting an hour… GRRRRRRR That just happened to me. I went to meet up with the guy I was gonna help get bricks. He said half an hour. After waiting an hour I gave up and came home. Then I get a call wanting to know where I am…GRRRRRRR It’s too late for me to fool with that now cause I would not have time to go there, get bricks, take ‘em to the church, unload, come back home and cleanup and then go get a haircut. I told him I had this appointment yesterday and no, I will not blow it off now. See, remember above all, I’m cheap. This is a friend who will cut my hair for five bucks, so, I’ll pretty much go get my hair cut when it’s convenient for him. Oh, and just so y’all know, this ain’t some random friend with a pair of hedge clippers who offers to cut my hair. He does this for a living. With real hair cuttin’ equipment and everything.

Damn, should be calling you SuperVunder these days. I have a job interview on Monday. Um. I think that’s all for now.

gt, it sounds like I’ve apparently said something to create an aura of disbelief. We shan’t have that puppy dog eyes. I’ve contemplated moving, but I’m not sure where I’d go. I hear they’re hiring teachers in Virginia like crazy and paying them well.

Mindfield, there’s a Taco Bell that’s three doors down from my home. We used to call it “Fort Knox” when we were little because of the bulletproof glass. Every time the perpetrator robbed the place (which happened about once a year), they’d run right over the front lawn, past my parents’ bedroom window.

I’m with you on that, Swampy. Do not ask me to do a favor for you and make me wait to do the favor. If I choose to waste my time, that’s ok - it’s my time. I don’t like others to waste it for me.

Get 'em, VB! Sounds like a certain formerly Catholic hospital around here; they act like they have to personally cough up every pain pill given to anyone. I got really upset with them during the last illness of my mother in law. The lady was dying, the doctors gave the “there’s nothing we can do” spiel - so give her something for pain! A morphine addiction is not a big problem for someone who is dead.

[/soapbox]

Y’all don’t forget to go whoop it up in LiLi’s baby thread. I’ve already suggested she get all practiced up on her camera skills so’s we can have lots and lots of pics of LittleLissar when the time comes.

Wow bobbio - that’s some tale! It did sound just like an e.r. episode.
Sending vibes for VWife’s speedy recovery.

PT is going well, read all about it you know where.

I won’t be back til Monday - there are no puter hours on Sunday and Satruday’s slots are all booked, but I am on a waiting list, so who knows.
So y’all have a good weekend, and if Mother Natures is cooperating in your neck of the woods, go enjoy the lovely weather. I hope one of my visitors will take me outside for a bit.

I’m hungry but haven’t gone to lunch yet as there’s no one else here. The boss hasn’t come in yet (!), the other CPA took the day off, and that just leaves me since the other woman who worked here quit. I would just lock up and run out and get something, but I did that before and there was much griping by the boss because I wasn’t there to answer the phone.

I thought she needed warning that babies poo indiscriminately.

What a story, Bobbio!! Good on ya for helping out. I hope Mrs V gets some pain relief soon!

I am seriously goofing off today. About the only thing I did was fill out a time off request for May 21, Mr Rebo’s birthday. And my friend and I ate some awesome sushi! Champagne rolls and California rolls and little bitty egg rolls and Crazy rolls! And steamed edamame - yuckypoo on that though.

I think I’ll leave early.

Today, if you’ve been watching CNN, is all about the Queen Elizabeth II visit to the United States. This morning she was in Jamestown, Va., where she viewed the progress on the excavation of the settlement where the subjects of her great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great Grandfather, King James, fled the motherland.

And tomorrow … she comes here! To the <ahem> Kentucky Derby, that annual event which makes every Kentuckian’s heart beat faster – and head look bigger – as we don giant hats and sip sickly sweet Mint Julips because it’s A Tradition. (They’re not too bad if you like bourbon; it’s just that I like my bourbon straight up!)

So, she’ll attend the Run for the Roses (which is just one race of many held tomorrow at Churchill Downs, and I think it goes off around 6 pm; it used to be 5:30~ish) and then on Sunday, visit friends in Kentucky.

It’s the “visit friends in Kentucky part” that’s particularly of interest to me, because not only will she be in the same state as me, but probably within just a few miles of where I actually live, here in Horse Country!

She’s visited here several times in the past and it’s always fun. Just the idea of an Actual Queen being around and breathing the same air that I do (and of course, the horses) is just so … so … veddy cool.

I survived training - yay! Yesterday was a wickedly long day - I left home just after 5 and we were on the bus by 7. Back to base at almost 5:30, so I had to go directly to class, and thanks to traffic, it was about 6:40 when I got there. I finished my tiles, glazed a couple of pieces, and bolted just before 8:30. Class today was done by about 2:30, and Monday I go back to my regular job with my nice little 24 mile commute instead of this stupid 43-mile one-way trek I had all week.

Now it’s time to get caught up on the MMP. And have dinner. And rest. I’m pooped…

Ellen you should so send an invite to the Queen to drop by for some Burgoo and Mint Juleps on the veranda! Actually, I think Mint Juleps are the most foul things one can do to good bourbon, but that’s just one bear’s opinion.

I am all properly coiffed. Meaning my haid is buzzed one-half inch all over. What? That’s a proper bear’s coif. I just finished grillin’ up some chicken laigs and boneless chicken breasts. Supper tonight consists of N.O.T. salad (which I made last night after returning home from tree plantin’ but didn’t mention it yet) and corn on the cob. I got a deal on some silver queen (how appropriate!) corn, three ears for a buck!, so I bought a dozen ears. Four of 'em are for supper tonight and the other eight have been shucked, silked, halved, blanched and frozen for future corn on the cob. Tonight we shall be pigs and dine on whole ears. OINK! OINK!

Absolutely spiffing about the Queen and all that, eh?
VunderB–your wife probably didn’t get anything to eat because they wanted to make sure she didn’t need surgery. An empty stomach helps prevent vomitting and aspiration when anesthetized (can’t spell it). As for the lack of pain meds…be all mean, open that can! Pain is a HUGE JCAOH issue (as well as an ethical one). Warning: all her pain may not be gone, but she should not be IN pain–some minor discomfort is to be expected.

I hafta work this weekend. Ugh. Need to finish up outside (flower pots for the decks and porch). Too lazy to do so, though…

I’m home, sans pain pills. appparently the insureance want the doc to try two three other thuings before Celebrex, so I have to call the doc Monday. At least today didn’t hurt quite as bad as yesterday.

Go get 'em, bobbio. my back is bad enough, I wouldn’t try cracked ribs without drugs.

Go Rosie, go!

Definitely open a can of whoop-ass on the pain issue, Bobbio! Having dealt with some less-than-fun pain recently myself, I have some understanding of how miserable Mrs. V must be without it.

I got an email from a former work friend in D.C. today, sending me photos of the bouquets her sister the florist got to make for Her Royal Majesty herself for her Williamsburg visit. I am envious. I guess since we tossed royalty out, we’ve all been wanting to have some again or something.

Lapin Blanc and I just ran a couple of errands and took the Idiots for a nice ride, so now everyone’s back home all fresh air’d and ready to get back to work. At least I am; everyone else is either sacked out on the floor (Idiots) or vegging in front of a computer. (Lapin Blanc probably wouldn’t be sacked out on the floor under normal circumstances. )

:: Drives by, waving ::

Sorry to hear about your wife’s accident, bobbio! You’re both in my thoughts.

Crazy busy here. But it did make the week fly by. Gotta run! Have a good weekend!

Home. Read everything fast. Good story, Bobbio. Hope you got them straightened out. Please tell the Queen she should become a Doper (or at least an MMPer), Ellen. (Do you suppose she knows how to use those computer thingies?) Out to garden. Back later.
