Our Visit to New Orleans, or a What Hath Katrina Wrought MMP

I have much thesis work to do today and tomorrow. But I’m already sleepy. Not good. And I’m chicken about violence in most movies, but Pan’s Labyrinth was worth it. Just cover your eyes at the bad bits. Really, the movie is good enough to make it worthwhile.

Night, all. See you in the next MMP!

By my clock, I’ve got 3 more minutes until this week is over. Don’t know if anyone will read this, but it still counts, right?

Bob, so sorry about your wife. I hope she is on the mend.

LOUNE, nice to see you here. Good luck on the job search.

rosie is back! yay!

To everybody else. . .hey there. . . see you next week!

Mint Juleps include Bourbon?

While I’m no fan of bourbon (except in BBQ sauce, ayum!), that sounds like a most heretic heresy! Mint and bourbon, ugh?!

Bobbio, you’n’me, we don’t have no problems with authority. It’s (lack of) authority who has a problem with us. Spelling my own case with more letters, I do have a problem with people saying I have to learn that something is so because they said it (only cos you’re taller don’t mean you’re righter), so people who can’t reason any further than that have a problem with me. Mom had to admit this was right and true when I pointed out that none of the teachers I’ve had who actually reasoned things has ever complained about me “challenging them”, it’s only the ones who work on the basis of “cos I said so”. In later years, it’s moved to having to do something a certain way because they say so, but in my last two jobs I’m doing that and thinking of England… it’s not like my current employers seem to have any interest in doing things more efficiently, so shrug

I’m glad to hear VWife is home and wish her again a speedy and full recovery.

kai, cool on the donations. I’m too young to remember the '60s but I like long hair too.

I got bootified on Saturday, it was more expensive than Back Home but survivable and the bootifier and me were able to understand each other; she didn’t use any gels or anything (didn’t even try to, yay!) but asked whether I wanted her to straighten the hair or curl it up and I said curl, so I left with a looooot of big curls. Pity they didn’t last long (see aforementioned lack of gels) and didn’t have anybody to ask to take a pic of me. A guy who looked about my age but probably took me for younger crossed me, mumbled “hmmm… sexy,” stopped at a store window and walked besides me for a few blocks, but all he said was “tch! heh, tch!” real low and I’ve got a problem understanding tchish :stuck_out_tongue: Funny thing is, it was pretty cold so I was wearing black sneakers, jeans that aren’t asslegant but which fit me nice and my Praha drinking team shirt, so it definitely wasn’t the clothes what was sexy. My color is all nice and even now, I asked for a shade that’s darker than what the dyed part was at the time but quite similar to my natural summer color, so in the next months I won’t have a big sign saying “hey, this is the point where I went to the hairdresser!”

Haze, you just need to get Scottish Darling to more Dopefests.

The Nephew is back home; on Wednesday night he kept trying to pull out the tubes and his mom fighting him to keep them in. The pee was escaping from the one in his peepee, which the nurse claimed was “impossible!” (I asked Mom where the hell is that idiot from, she must be imported cos I’ve never heard a Navarrese say that word except in mockery) until she saw it, but she insisted in leaving it in. Finally at some point while SiL was asleep the kid woke up and pulled the tubes out. The nurse said this would mean going back to surgery to stick the tubes back in, which upset SiL a lot, but when the doctor got there he said “well, we were going to release him tomorrow anyway, he didn’t hurt himself and the kidneys are clearly both working well, so that’s cool. Just don’t let him run out onto the hallway.” So when Mom got there to take over from SiL, the kid was already trying to run all over the place and wondering why his legs were wobbly (from being in bed for a week). He’s back home now; they expect to be able to come to the family shinding on Saturday and all.

I have to buy The Proud Father a present (saturday is his 33rd birthday) but it’s been a problem with moving and the hours stores here keep and the hours we keep at work. At least one of the options he gave me was a cup (SiL doesn’t like souvenir cups but he does), that should be easy to get. I’m thinking of getting him one from Switzerland and one from France or something like that. If I can find two nice ones, that is. My plane leaves at something like 6:15am on Saturday so won’t be able to shop in the airport.

The printer I gave to Mom, which was 7yo, has apparently given up the ghost so she’s asked for one for Mother’s Day, but I’ll go get it with her; I’ve already told the Bros so they don’t go nuts trying to come up with a present or something.

Just in case anyone is up and looking, I am indeed about to post the OP, I am just waiting for a few photos to upload to photobucket so’s I can link you to them. Your patience is appreciated! :stuck_out_tongue:

That is exactly how I felt. But it’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen, and the horrible bits are necessary and worth suffering.

Where is the new MMP?

Mindfield just started it. So I guess either kai can get her post there or both threads can be stitched together. Now, everybody out of here, nothing to look at, move along…
