Good Sunday Morning! I’m watching coverage of Greensburg, KS tornados. The devastation is just awful. I hope all the Kansas and Oklahoma dopers made it through the last couple days unscathed.
I’m watching the sun come up and planning out my day. After I clean the house a bit (just a bit, mind you) I’m going to plant my Rock Geranium along my newly prepared hedge bed. I also have astilbe to plant. Can anyone tell me if either of these spread, or do they just get fuller?
I got most of my toad lilies into pots Friday. I can’t wait for them to bloom! Then I got to thinking…pots or ground? I can move them if you think they’d do better in the ground. Any experience with these little darlin’s?
Then I think I’ll clean up the two beds in front of the house and plan those around the ferns that are multiplying there. I had four for the last five years, and now suddenly I have eight! I’ll move four of those to the other side of the little sidewalk, but I need to add something. It’s shady, but not as shady as it once was. Any suggestions?
Forgot to say “Yay, kai and skiffman!” for the Locks of Love donation.
And hugs right back atcha, Hank.
Glad nothing appears to have gone kaboom in doggio’s neighborhood.
I’m up and have decided to clean, weed and plan where plants are going, go back to the plant sale (I have to supervise for a bit), do more garden work, possibly stop by and look at the church garden and make sure nothing needs to be done, come back to work some more in the garden and then go to church tonight. Plus, I need to do laundry and some work stuff (nothing really big, but still.
Up, dressed, and waiting for my sweetie so we can go to breakfast. We actually slept in till almost 7 - it felt great!
But we woke up to the furnace being on! It’s like 45 degrees outside! Who stole my spring??
Today’s plans include me helping with something on the boat, then I’m going to come home to paint doors, glaze pots, and start the kiln. The doors I’m painting are the new 6-panel doors that are going up in place of the crappy old lauan doors in the bedrooms and bathrooms. Two are ready for paint - 4 more to go.
Dangitall! I caved and turned the AC on. I really, really wanted to wait ‘til Memorial Day weekend but alas, that was not to be. It’s freakin’ hot here! Plus the smoke from the wild fires around the Okeefenokee are driftin’ this way, so it’s all smoky outside. I can’t stand that, so AC is on. The good thing is betwixt the AC and ceiling fans, it gets cool in da cave real quick, so I actually have the AC set on 76 but it feels more like 72 (that’s Amurrkin) in da cave. Apparently it’s true that ceiling fans do cause a little “chill factor”. Still no rain here either!
I am making tea. Don’t tell anyone. Tea is one of the things I’m not supposed to have.
Pfft. There wouldn’t be any babies in England if it were a big problem.
kai, that’s an awesome thing to do. If I every get my hair cut off I’ll donate. I’m just not sure if Mr. Lissar could cope with me having hair that wasn’t butt-length. He’d cry for weeks.
I’m up and ingesting caffeine. We’re not off to church for a couple of hours, so I have time to tidy. Or just make a big breakfast. That sounds like more fun.
I’m up and caffeinating, too. I’m soooo sore from squatting so much yesterday, hunting dust bunnies. (“Kill the wabbit” is running through my head! Hee!)
Good on ya, Kai and Skiffman for donating your locks. What a great cause! How did the etoufee turn out? I think it was me that gave you the recipe.
Mr Rebo brought home some real maple syrup yesterday and is requesting French toast for breakfast. I want bacon and eggs, since we had pancakes yesterday. I’d rather go out with the FairyChatFamily…
Morning, all. I’m up and caffeinating, too. And contemplating doing something useful, but thus far I’ve just been sitting. My knee was aching when I woke up this morning. But it was a “Hey, you really worked me yesterday!” ache, not a “There’s something wrong!” ache, so I’m assuming it’ll subside before the day is out. But I’m going to skip the trip to the dog beach with Papa Tigs and the Idiots.
Papa Tigs had [adobo](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobo\) cooking in the crockpot before I even got up this morning – mmmmm, adobo! Papa Tigs cooks fabulous adobo – so it means we’re all going to be tortured all day long as the wonderful fragrance permeates the house. I adore adobo, but waiting for it to be ready to eat is true torture!
It’s really cool here this morning, too, although not quite as cool as down FCM’s way – we didn’t turn the heat on, but we did close all the windows and everyone is wearing long sleeves and I’m wrapped in a shawl sitting here at my desk. It’s not supposed to get a lot warmer today, either. But it sure is pretty looking out at the trees tossing gently in the breeze!
Back from the marina - doggone, it’s breezy out there! Speaking of dog gone, stoopit Bernie took off when I took the dogs out to pee, so I left the garage door open for her. She runs to the far end of the yard and goes thru the fence. Idiot. Just when I think she’s going to behave and I don’t have to take her out on a leash, she pulls something like this and goes walkabout. Stoopit dog. So it’s back to the leash for her.
I’m about to go downstairs and paint some doors. And do some laundry. And glaze some pots. Good times, good times…
I took Maggie to the dog park, and she was run over by a Retriever. On the way home, we almost got into TWO accidents, and two different old ladies in Cadillacs pulled out in front of us. I am taking a nap, and maybe having a nerve tonic or six.
Second load of laundry is in the washer, first load in the dryer. Last of the ceramics are glazed and loaded - I’ll start the kiln about 3 or so. Unfortunately, the handle on the big pitcher broke, so unless the glaze fuses it together, I won’t be able to sell it. Bummer.
First coat of white on 2 doors - I’ll add the second coat in a couple of hours. And I’m going to boil some eggs and do something with the leftover chicken in the fridge - preferably something edible for dinner.
Oh, and Bernie, the much maligned, didn’t run away after all! I went out to yell for her, and she was in the yard, wagging her tail, probably snerking at me under her breath. Stoopit dog.
I’m back from plant sale supervision. And further plant purchases. The last ones. I swear! Even got tomatoes and peppers, so it’s actually possible that they’re the last. Also got the elusive sweet allyssum, which I didn’t find a flat of yesterday. They’re usually the first thing I plant, generally in April. I won’t mention that I also bought more plants at the sale. The herbs were 1/2 off, so I semi-splurged. Also bought two hats that I meant to buy yesterday (less than $5 each, which is a steal).
Now it’s back out to the garden. I edged one bed this morning. I’ve got another one to do this afternoon. And some blackberry whacking to do. Ick. I need to get rid of all the blackberries because they’re not good quality and they’re everywhere.
Doggio it’s your fault for bein’ on the streets. Everybody knows that little ol’ ladies only drive their cars to church on Sunday.
Church and brunch were good. The beenie weenie got all et up. Somebody brought homemade pound cake, strawberries and whipped cream, so I had me some strawberry shortcake for dessert. NUM! We have been invited to dindin tonight at a friend’s house. She’s an excellent cook so it’s good eats day for me all around.
It’s cloudy here but no rain as of yet. Still smoky out though. Oh, this smoke is from a peat bog fire. Ever smelled a burning peat bog? Of course peat bogs are always smoulderin’ cause, well, after all it’s peat and that’s what peat does but when it catches on fire, ICK! ICK! ICK! I’m glad this is just the smoke and not the actual smell.
Kiln is kilning. Second coat of paint is drying on the doors. **FCD ** is home. Dishwasher is washing dishes. Critters have been fed. Weekend is winding down. Life is good. Sentences are simplistic.
Just got back from watching Pan’s Labyrinth. I think I’ve been traumatized for life. But it was SUCH a good movie. Now excuse me while I go curl up in a corner.
We will not divulge your tea-drinking to anyone. At all. Trust us. LiLi drank tea. Not the herbal kind.
How’s that thesis, Hank? I’m too chicken to see Pan’s Labryrinth. I’m going to see The Lives of Others later this week, though, I hope.
Back from gardening and church.
Filled three bags and a recycling bin with yard stuff (pruned cactus, blackberry brambles, general weeds). I started to move daylilies out of the crown-vetch-infested border. They’re going to live in an improvised bed along the driveway this year. I started digging it up today (I have a gravel driveway and it’s not too bad under the gravel by the fence. Most of what I’m moving are ditch daylilies, so they really don’t care about the soil. They’ll be temporarily housed in recycled container soil.
I should be asleep by now. Maybe I’ll go read and get sleepy. (Please please please!)
Almost Monday…but if I’m lucky, I’ll only work 2 days this week. Woo hoo!!!
Just wanted to check in before bed. Mr Rebo is already there - he kicked butt this weekend, and installed a lot of new siding. I helped on a few pieces, just to get it level. I didn’t clean much today, like I had planned.
But I did grocery shop. I got in a stupidd argument with the checkout girl. I gave her a coupon for $14 off if I spent $140. I definitely spent that much, but I didn’t think the coupon rang up, but she said it did. So I paid, then I got my receipt and it didn’t show that the coupon rang up. And she already dumped the coupons into the lock box. So I got pissy, and they sent me up to the customer service desk (I’d already been there over an hour!) and they gave me my freakin’ $14 dollars. Oh well. She had rung up stuff wrong the whole time, too. At least customer service didn’t give me any shit. They could tell I was pissed!
Ok, breathe!!! I’m fine now.
So we had ribeyes and Marsala portobello mushrooms with capers, steamed asparagus, and baked NOTs. And “Decadent Chocolate Chunk Cheesecake.” Awesome dinner.
The Weight Watchers girls at work asked me to bring in some cheesecake. I’m a bad influence.
