Our Visit to New Orleans, or a What Hath Katrina Wrought MMP

Walnuts are considerably more hazardous than acorns. The outside of the walnut is huge. Almost as big as a tennis ball some years. Yup. They’re a drag when they bonk you in the head.

Ouch. Keep the walnuts away, thank you!
Bellydancing during pregnancy is recommended. Good for the stomach and pelvic floor muscles. And good cardio. So there.

I am very full of Indian food, and it’s time for a nap. :runs off with more of the MMP’s sleep, cackling wildly:

doggio who could resist the double temptation of bacon grease and honey bun!

I’m in from pool time. I filled my 52 ounce Bubba Keg in blue with lemonade, got in my floaty chair and sipped, sunned and floated. AAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!! The water temp today is 74 Amurrkin.

I have chicken ‘n dumplin’s simmerin’ on the stove. Smells so good! Lima beans and steamed carrots shall be the accompanyin’ veggies. I shall expect much “appreciation” for this.

Tonight, I have to take a pee test and a reading comprehension test for EMT class.

My life is so boring, I’ll probably flunk the pee test because of the Aleve I’m taking for my elbow. :dubious:

Despite having 2 engineering degrees, I can’t get waived out of the test that proves I can read at a 10th grade level.

There’s also the ER orientation tonight, but that’s legit.

Just don’t confuse the two!

I’m sorry that your mom is having to go through this again, gotti, you will both be in my thoughts and prayers.

On the other hand, I am relieved that scruffy is going to be alright. FCM you and FCD have truly done a kindness to this little dog, how wonderful to spend the end of her life in a loving home, may she be around to romp for a long time.

db I hope that you are able to get your Celebrex soon, it’s a miracle, as are Vioxx and Bextra, all in the same category of anti inflammatory. As they are too expensive for poor old uninsured me, I am on prescription strength naproxen, which helps, but not as much a the above mentioned cox inhibitors.

li-li that baby is growing quite rapidly and that is why you are so sleepy, baby grows faster while you are asleep as well. I reiterate my advice to sleep as much as possible now while you can, as once the bairn is born sleep will become a precious commodity. Are you experiencing any tummy sickness yet? Hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones who don’t. I always knew a week or so into the pregnancy (before I was “officially” preggers) that I was with child, as I spent most of my time yarking into the loo. I am sooo excited for you!!! I truly loved being pregnant and giving birth and then having a baby to tend to, it’s so fulfilling as a woman, imnsho! Oh, and since you are accustomed to the exercise of belly dancing it should not be a problem to continue with it, modifying it a bit as you belly grows. On preview I see that you know about that!

Me, I have a bug. Fever, headache, upset tummy and various other discomforts I won’t detail due to TMI. Skiffman is off on another halibut trip, but he did straighten the bedding so I have a nice fresh bed to climb back into. I shall also be dipping into the MMP sleep pool, one heals faster while sleeping as well.

Perhaps I’ll peek in again later, have a good day all!

Hey, I got an awful lot done today. Mostly writing - a couple presentations for the board meeting, two action report/recommendations, I finished an informational report for the big cheeses and invented a form.

It’s nice here today, I think I’ll catch some sunshine and take a ride instead of going to the gym. It’s a little windy for a good bicycle ride, but I need the sun.

Later cool kids!

It is 93 degs and sunny here today. Whoohoo!

I am acclimatising wonderfully to the Cali weather since leaving Wyoming

Still no news on the house front but I am kinda liking the new job. I have power and I am not afraid to use it aka everyone has to do as I say now that I am district manager.

Bwahahaha

So you’re really more of a California person than a Wyoming person, ems? Glad you’re enjoying it.

Of course I meant that in the absolutely nicest possible way, Puggy.

I must confess that I, too, have been using the MMP’s sleep allotment. I was amazingly sleep-deprived last week and have been stressing about lots of stuff and finally hit the wall last night. Went to bed at 9:30 and didn’t wake up until the alarm went off at 5 or so. I was at work by 6:45 and got lots done. I have one more little bit to go and I’ll be done with major thing #2 THIS WEEK. I have a few smaller things to do that are amazingly late, but all my big worries will be out of the way. I’m pretty crispy at the moment, so I’m going to take a catnap. Then I’m hoping to mow the lawn, which is embarrassingly long.

Back later with an update and actual responses to stuff I read.

<SNERK>

I have showered to get all the sun tan lotion off me. I didn’t when I came in from the pool, get over it. Ol’ y’all know who is soakin’ in the tub, well, actually, he’s just gettin’ out. Supper was a big hit, so, I just want to let taxi know that “appreciation” shall commence shortly.

MBG, I just saw your contribution to the Pit thread about the injured cat, and went surfing through your pictures. That picture of Quervo in the window is a wonderful picture! And the one with his head through the bannister made me snicker.

Gotti, I meant to say earlier (and forgot) that your mom will be in my thoughts. I hope she can beat that nasty thing again.

That is one cat that I think knows what the camera is. He sees me coming with it and starts moving around, posing and looking me in the eye the whole time.

Good thing he has no ego, or isn’t spoiled…

Gee…would that be because he’s had a camera for a friend since he was…knee-high to a bottle of tequila? Didn’t think so. :stuck_out_tongue:

Still awake, but have been surfing in ultra-relaxed mode. I am a bad neighbor and haven’t mowed. Mañana.

Think I’ll read for a while, then read both my work opuses. Woo hoo!!

GT

I wish mine would do that. They do the cutest things until they see the camera; then they turn into inanimate piles of fur. With laser eyes.

ARGH, the containers, they all came at once (from Italy, with our stock) ARGH. Count’em, invoice’em, put’em in inventory, invoice our distributor, ARGH!

Busy busy.

Cheers,
G

What kind of stock?

I’m not asleep. This is not good, as I need to get up at 0 dark thirty.

Can someone sing me a lullabye, please?

Any update from rosie, Drae?

Back for another sleep attempt…

Coffee (and tea and hot chocolate and eating chocolate and espresso machines and stuff, but mostly coffee in various unground blends.) We are part of a worldwide coffee company, we supply cafes their unground beans, plus advertising materials (cups - paper and ceramic - aprons, signs, napkins and so forth.)

3x40 foot containers in 3 hours in two locations on either end of Australia, whew! The stars usually don’t align like that! Manifests and invoices and stock counts and…whew!

gt if you can’t sleep, wanna count coffee beans in 1kg bags? Works better than sheep, Hal tells me.

Cheers,
G

I am home, hurting, and its 80 degrees Amurikin at 11 P.M. I am off tomorrow, so it’s a dog park day, and I will see if I am allowed to do drugs or not.
I got my invoice for season tickets: $1869. Aparently I was invoiced for a ten game, a 24 game, and full season tickets. I ain’t paying for The Voices to go with me.

taxi, in my neighborhood in Durham, N.C., we used to have acorn fights. And play with explosives. And fire. And we were the good kids.

I read this as I had to take a penis test. Anyway, did results ensue?

kai, I hope you get better, soon.

Good luck Gleena. Been there, done that.

gt, I can’t sing, but I can get you a nerve tonic, that helps me sometimes.

Apparently I don’t have a bug, just another flare from all the stress. Most of the stress is gone, yet the flare lingers. I am getting a lot of napping done, even though I would like to get outside and begin cleaning up the flower beds. Well, it would actually have to stop raining for more than a half hour, we have officially had the wettest April on record, only three days without rain, argh!

While I was lounging on the bed watching The Weakest Link I heard a voice outside my window. (It was during one of the half hour sun breaks.) I peeked out and saw a strange woman petting one of the cats, (Kazz) and trying to lure Calalloo to her. I said “Um, hello?” and from there I entered an, um, interesting coversation. This woman lives on the block behind me, and she has apparently returned to the island after living in Anchorage for 18 years. She is looking for a kitten and I suggested she check the shelter. OMG, you would have thought I had suggested she ought to jump into a volcano. “Oh no, you have to apply and get on a waiting list and even then you aren’t assured of getting the exact kitten you want, and then you have to pay for it, and I want a 4 - 6 week old kitten, female, prefferably calico, and I want to let it have kittens so I can then sell them and by the way is your calico spayed, blah blah blah…” Wow. I hastened to assure her that Calalloo is indeed spayed, and the boys are neutered, and sure, yeah, I’ll keep my ears open for any litters for her…not. She’s a nutter, that’s for certain, I hope that she doesn’t make a habit of cruising through my yard this summer.

I skimmed through today’s posts but haven’t the requisit amount of active brain cells to comment. It’s raining, again, the kids and animals have been tended to, I have taken my meds and am headed for bed. I’ll check in on y’all in the morning. Well, my morning, your early afternoon, lol. Ta!

I was off yesterday, it being May 1. No intarwebs at home yet: France Telecom says they’ll be activating my phone line today, so I need to buy a phone (why do engineers in different countries have to measure their dickpower by defining different standards for plugs? is it because they’re called jacks and jills?) so I can verify that the line is, indeed, live; once it is, I can beg them for my DSL. My house doesn’t have cable, but one of the upswings of the appearance of cable networks in Europe is that phone companies have discovered that, same as cable can carry TV-net-phone, the phone cable can too. So I may go for the 3-pack. French TV is about as bad as Spanish TV but that means I know what half the TV programs are about, since several of the chains are multi-country and of course share the few ideas they have.

Got the kitchen appliances delivered today. Apparently the washing machine is not officially part of the kitchen, even though there is an evident washing-machine-sized hole in the kitchen, with water inlet and outlet and all. I’ve asked the agents about it. Mind you, I’ve had instances of people saying that the kitchen was furnished because I was getting… a gastop and oven :stuck_out_tongue: and later being pissy 'cos I was taking away the washer and fridge I had had to buy. In this case if I buy a washer I’ll just leave it behind.

When I was little we used to go to a public pool that had a lot of castaños de indias, a sort of walnut that you can’t eat and has a spiky cover on top of the regular nut’s cover. I was always terrified that one of them would hit me and avoided walking under the trees. Kind of felt vindicated when one of my cousins (who nobody would call wimpy, under risk of a broken nose) got hit by one and spent several hours being too stunned by the fascinating gash on his foreleg to play macho.
