Ozzy has hired Jason Newstead as his new bass player.
I think that this will be interesting. Jason is a great player and I have liked him from the old days of Flotsam and Jetsom(SP?).

Eh? Last I heard, Jason Newsted had joined the band VoiVod on a permanent basis. Where did you hear this from??
First, I didn’t know Voivod was still around. Do you have a link to a Voivod site?

Voivod seems to have had a recent reincarnation. According to their homepage, Jason Newsted is, indeed, their new bassist, at least as recently as a couple of weeks ago. Maybe something happened to submarine it or maybe Jason is just going to play both gigs. I’m sure the Ozzy gig would pay better, but I don’t think that Jason is hard up for cash these days.
Ina any case, I think Jason is a good fit for Ozzy and should be a good compliment to Zakk Wylde. One of Ozzy’s strengths has always been his ability to surround himself with great musicians.
I liked Voivod quite a bit back in the day. I thought they were very unique and creative. They had a very distinct, almost jazz-fusion approach to the metal genre. I sort of hope that Jason does record with them. I’d be interested in hearing from them again.
