Paige Davis Fired?

I must be in the minority because I can’t stand her. I try watching the show sometimes, but always wind up changing the channel. She’s like on Crack or something.

The phrase ‘AIDS victim’ is a no-no? I did not know that.

That is honestly the best news I’ve heard all day. As far as I know he’s still on the show.

Wait! Wait! It’s coming to me…

Designers Gone Wild!!

:: bows and exits ::

There are some who believe getting AIDS is a positive thing, and deliberately try to get infected… I supposed we have to be sensitive to them now.

If somehow Frank gets involved in this, then I’m going to need to wash my brain with a brillo pad…

From what I read in one of the links, PD have a “no nudity” clause in her contract. A thong, from the back, is pretty much the same as no thong as far as I’m concerned. I personally don’t care, I love nudity and sex and all that, but she signed the damned contract, so it showed a lack of smarts on her part to participate in an event that violated the terms of her contract. So while you may still say “fuck trading spaces”, no one held a gun to her head to force her to sign something she didn’t agree with. If there was no such clause, I’d say “fuck trading spaces” too, but in this case, Paige did all the damage to her self.

Um, not even close. “AIDS victim” is felt by many/most PWAs to be disempowering. A lot of early AIDS activism was about getting away from the “victim” mentality, hence orgs like ACT UP (AIDS Coalition To Unleash Power). Same reason why we tend not to hear phrases like “cancer victim.”

“As far as I’m concerned” doesn’t necessarily hold up under the scrutiny of contract law. I’m no legal expert, but considering that exotic dancers wearing thongs are allowed to perform where exotic dancers sans thongs are not, criminal law at least makes a distiction between “nude” and “wearing a thong.” It seems reasonable to believe that civil law does too. If the nudity clause were what TS is hanging the firing on (which it isn’t; they’re claiming a “transition to hostlessness”) then they would IMHO be on extremely shaky legal ground.

Isn’t it possible that, as the only regular on the show from the start, Paige gets the most pay. The producers probably don’t think that she contributes to the show as much as she costs. So rather than give her a raise they fire her.

Paige wasn’t there at the start. I believe Frank, Vern, Doug, Laurie, Hilde, Genevieve, Ty and Amy Wynn all started before her. I don’t watch very much any more, but most of them are still on, I think.

Genevieve has her own show now, so if she’s not gone already, she’ll be fading away soon.

Think you could respond without the snarkiness? I didn’t see your link and didn’t realize you’re the moderator of this thread. With due respect, you’re in no position to disqualify me from saying anything about the subject at hand. I expessed my feelings, from a business standpoint and as an executive, with not a scintilla of condemnation. I also think it’s presumptuous to think you speak for the AIDS community and can decide which terms you will allow others to use. Nowhere did I say the show was “obscene” and I meant no disrespect when I used the term “AIDS victim.” Back off.

If true, I don’t think Paige is losing any sleep. Months ago I saw she was going to be in the Broadway production of Chicago, and she mentioned that Broadway was the love of her life and her dream.

My guess is, she probably didn’t put up much of a fight to stay on the show, and if she is going to try to break into something new, the timing is right. Trading Spaces has lost its buzz and Paige is probably aware of the fact there is a fine line in hanging around a show while it is hip, and jumping ship when it starts to get stale.

I am surprised the Queer Eye guys haven’t caught on to that concept yet.

From that link:

Sounds to me as if the sex tapes don’t actually exist. The quoted text also includes links that didn’t copy:

Apparently not. How 'bout that?

What? huh?

I just did a Google search on the term “cancer victim.” Apparently, this term continues to see widespread use, even in the mainstream press.

I rarely if ever hear or see the phrase “cancer victim.” If it’s in widespread parlance then it’s news to me.

The rest of my point still stands.

Thread hijack victims, back to the topic at hand…

I just watched my first episode of Trading Spaces sans Paige and it was a total yawn-fest. I had heard they were transitioning to a hostless format, and had assumed, as DMark suggests, that she had purloined her fame into a revived broadway career.

This show is going to fade fast if they don’t find another cute/sexy/plucky host that’ll keep Doug and Hildi in check.
