Can someone explain (in morbid detail, obviously) what exactly that device does to the turkey?
Did anyone actually listen to what she’s saying? Once you laugh at the turkeyness, go back and just listen to her talk. Hysterical!
Yes–it’s not just the juxtaposition of her reason to be there OR the visual, but her monologue is also quite unintentionally funny. “it’s so much fun to be here!” (as the turkey thrashes in its death throes); “it’s so great to be an Alaskan!” (I guess she doesn’t bother with saying American anymore) etc. She still cannot connect two separate thought processes together (she talks about the change in oil prices and then talks about cutting out big government with no pause for breath or linking the two issues). Maybe she suffers from tryptophan overdose?
What I find amusing is that whoever is holding the camera is clearly not interested in showing Palin in a positive light. He could have shifted the view to eliminate the carnage with little trouble. You’d think Palin would take a look around before doing an interview, but the camera man should have said something. I’m glad he didn’t and all :), but he should have.
There is a Turkey Head Sized hole in the bottom of it. You place the turkey upside down and let his head stick out. Slice the turkey’s throat and he bleeds out. (Makes the meat much better without all of the blood still inside the muscle)
That is what that trough underneath is for, to gather the blood. When the turkey stops twitching/bleeding, pull it out (you can see him doing this with turkey #1)
As another poster said, this is a small time set up. Larger processing plants have mechanical devices with water flushing the blood and stunning the turkeys beforehand to make it unconscious before slitting the throat, although there is considerable debate on the amount of pain the turkey suffers otherwise.
I’ll take American Workers for $1000, Alec!
Sorry, it can’t be kitten blood.
You know Sarah Palin has never killed a kitten.
Who knows what evil is perpetrated in the dark reaches of the night?
Sweeeeet! It could be like the vintage Bass-O-Matic commercial.
Honestly, and I say this as one of the biggest Palin-haters out there, I’m not seeing the big deal here. It’s not like it was going on right behind her. She was visiting a workplace, where work was being done out of the camera’s shot. The camera people and/or editing crew clearly panned/spliced those shots in to make her look stupid, and IMO that ain’t fair. We don’t need to manufacture reasons to hate/point and laugh at Palin. She does it just fine herself.
Um, you haven’t seen the right video. The turkey is indeed getting its throat slit on camera right behind her with its legs thrashing around as its bleeding out inside the funnel thing, then the guy pulls out the carcass and grabs the next bird etc. There are no edits or pans, the camera doesn’t move at all. It’s one take.
Missed the edit window: we’re all referring to the three-minute interview she did in Equipoise’s links.
