Today’s Sheldon comic made me wonder what Arthur was after. This blog answered that question. A combination of a tropical drink and a hot dog with a special red sauce. Hmmm.
So my question is how good are they and if they are, why is New York keeping this a secret? I would have loved to try one when I was there last year, but had no clue they even existed and it appears they have been around for awhile. (I did get an obligatory water dog with kraut and onions when I was there though.)
Something to look forward to this spring I suppose.
Also which place do you prefer, if any? What drink goes best with the dog?
Ex-fiancee and I tried two of the papaya/dog chains in NYC, Papaya King and Gray’s Papaya, last time we were there. Not too impressed with either; the papaya drinks were gross (though the other tropical drinks available were pretty good; banana, coconut and the like), and she reported that the dogs were nothing special texture wise. I liked the spicy fries at Papaya King, which did go well with the tropical drinks, and the ex liked the dog toppings there as well (she tried kraut and chili on her two dogs, no experience on the onions). She would rather have gotten a Sabrett hot dog from a street vendor, though.
