Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis < snerk > 69! < snerk > Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 86 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted for later this afternoon. We shall see. This mornin’ I shall head over to the church house for candle duty and to meet with our Interim Priest. Shall I name him IP? Then, this afternoon between the hours of two and four, OYKW and I shall participate in a drive by happy birthday for our friend Doris who is one hundred years old today. The original plan was to have a drop in reception at the church house, but someone in her assisted livin’ facility came down with the plague so the place is on lockdown. However, weather permittin’, she can be outside and folks can actually park and wish her happy bday in person, fully masked, of course. Sup shall be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit, just 'cause. We’ll have to work in some sloth. That might be difficult to work in, but we must perservere.
Nellie hooray for the benign cyst! Let us make merry with drinks and lasagna!
Nettie glad you and DH are pretty much over the plague.
red I feel ya on the ragweed thing. I’ve been feelin’ it myself the past few days. Fortunately we have had a couple of good rains which have helped pollen wise.
Thanks Y’all for the congarats re the new great niece/nephew. Katie promised me ultrasound pics of her/his butt. He/she would not turn so a face could be seen. Sounds like somebody kin to me!
Wheelie glad the Mrs. is feelin’ better.
wordy hope overlyboy is feelin’ better soonest.
BooFae not much is more aggravatin’ than glasses that don’t fit right. Hope it gets fixed soonest.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, and bother of bothers, I suppose I must needs purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. The worst part is I must be properly attired for a good portion of the day. Woe is me!
That’s what the place we picked out is. The ones with medical folks on staff cost lots more. I looked up one that’s near our marina - you have to buy in, then pay monthly, and the buy-ins start at $117K, with rents starting around $2400. That’s definitely out of their budget, unless they sell their house for $250K and don’t live more than a couple of years…
nellie:
Masked hugs to all the sickies/recovering sickies!
Today will include tidying in advance of the grands’ overnight stay as well as a run to Aldi. Well, not really a run - I’ll drive. I need to start thinking about stocking up for the inlaws’ visit. Plus I want to make a big pot o’sketty sauce, so I think I need mushrooms - I’ve got everything else. But I should inventory my freezer and make a tentative meal calendar. So nothing physically challenging today, but still, stuff needs to be done.
My mom is going to swap vehicles with me for the return to FL. She has a Mazda 5 which is like a mini-minivan. The back two seats fold into the floor, so there will be plenty of space for wheelchair, walker, and luggage. We just need to figure the logistics of trading vehicles. In an ideal world, I’d be met halfway, but since she’d doing me the favor, I can’t demand that. We’ll work it out.
I’ve got a few days yet to prep the guest room and clean the guest bath. And mow. And take the trash to the convenience center… I need a vacation!!
We had a front come thru and it took the excess humidity with it. I’ve had the house open - even tho it got into the 80s yesterday, I didn’t feel the need for a/c and it’s been dropping into the 60s at night, so cool sleeping. It’s not going to last, but I’ll enjoy it while I can. Since FCD isn’t here, I don’t have to worry about him being uncomfortable - he doesn’t tolerate heat well.
It’s currently 57 degrees with an expected high of 87 and sunny skies.
Work was long, but everything that I wanted to be done by yesterday was completed and sent off.
nellie, I’m so relieved and glad it’s only a benign cyst! Also, we have a Jersey Mike’s down here where I live. I’ve not been to the one near my place, but I’ve had one of their sammiches before and it was tasty.
I hate when glasses don’t fit right or the prescription is off. I’m not quite sure the glasses I got last year are just right. The eye doc says my prescription didn’t really change that much, but I still feel like it’s a struggle to see some things and, even though these glasses are supposed to prevent that, I’m STILL tilting my head when using the computer. Ah well.
Today the repairman comes to take a look at and hopefully replace/repair the icemaker in my Samsung fridge. He/she is supposed to arrive sometime between noon and 5:00 pm. Look I get they can’t be exact, but criminy that’s my whole damn afternoon. I really hope the icemaker gets fixed.
At any rate, I need to vacuum and dust before the repairman gets here. The dog hair is everywhere. Plus, I need to wash the floor. Hubby spilled something in the kitchen and this morning I stepped in a sticky spot, so since I’m washing that part, I might as well wash the whole dang thing.
Well, that’s all the news around here.
Sending hugs, yays, and boos as needed. I hope you all have a terrific day!
Morning all. Pill popped and paper retrieved, so the basic morning duties are done. Swimmin’ & Sauna & Soccer will take a few hours out of the day, which is supposed to get to 89F and some scattered T-Boomers today and tomorrow, which may affect the kid’s soccer. We’ll see.
shoe, was going to post that same link, thanks for the help. Long as we’re on the topic, anyone ever try Firehouse Subs? How are they?
Taters, may the icemaker be repairable and at a reasonably early hour.
swampy, and happy birthday to friend Doris, my goal is 90+ or die trying. Sounds like she’s still doing pretty well.
JtC, Good for Mom-unit winning at the fair; pictures when she sends it to you. And Hubs and the clover patch sounds like the beginning of a great adventure…
OK, need to forage for some sustenance and be about the day. All y’all take care.
Ach, ye gods, I slept like absolute last night. And tonight is my long shift, 4 pm till 2 am. Of course.
I may roll back into bed in a few. Maybe Monkey will be in a snuggly mood. Sometimes he’s walking on my damn head meowing for attention; sometimes he sleeps on a particular box down in the basement. (Yes, yes. Cats is weird.)
For those of you who remember LOLCat and the Cheezburger memes … it is fitting that my black cat likes hanging out in the basement. (See also: Basement Cat.)
In my experience, that often means he’ll either show up at 11:15 a.m. (right after you decide to run to the corner store really quickly for some juice or whatever) or you’ll dawdle away your whole afternoon & then he’ll show up at ten till six with an overly detailed and boring explanation of how he was pulled onto an emergency call.
Well, Monkey had the zoomies & I’m clearly gonna derp around on my phone for a while, so I let him out, leaving the door cracked as usual so he can let himself endlessly back in & out. (I have one of those magnetic screen flappy-things, but it’s gotten a bit shredded, because SOMEone likes to attack bugs resting on it with their extremely sharp claws.)
Few minutes later, I look up and see something very small hovering a few feet in front of me. Dammit, the flies already let themselves in … nope.
'Twas a teensy wee little spider, hanging from a zipline off my ceiling. I gently ran my finger through thin air above Tiny Charlotte until the line broke, then quickly escorted my little hovering friend outside.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels in the dryer and a load of clothes in the wash. I’ve given myself an exemption for some of the housework until tomorrow.
Good luck! When our icemaker died, I just bought a countertop ice maker, and I dump the ice into the bin as it’s made. FCD hates it, but I like that I can get a lot of ice in a short time - I can fill the bin to overflowing in about 6 hours, rather than overnight with the integral ice maker. Plus I have a model that makes little cubes instead of crescents - I hate ice crescents!!!
We like them - FCD really likes them. I especially like that you can get a little one - even 6" is generally too much sammich for me - too much bread, anyway. Plus with their meal deal, you get a drink and a choice of chips on the side.
Back from Aldi and I pulled out a pack of ground beef to start the sketty sauce. As it was browning, it smelled a tad funky, so I checked the package. Sell by Aug 9, 2021. I guess it kinda got lost in the freezer. And, of course, I don’t have any more, so I need to run to Food Lion. Dammit. So much for getting things done today.
Talked with FCD for a while this morning - he’s really hating it there. His dad won’t wear his hearing aids, so his mother is constantly yelling at him, repeating stuff over and over. When he called me, he was in his car searching for a place with WiFi. I googled and sent him to IHOP, so he had breakfast and intrarwebz. I am so not looking forward to having them here for a week and some. I understand and I try to be patient, but there’s a limit, and it gets closer and closer the longer we’re with them. I don’t want to be that way when I’m that old…
Wheelie I hope the appointment goes better this time.
JtC Congrats to CaneMom for her win! I say go for the wildflower patch. More butterflies! More pollinators! Do eet!
#8 looks like a clear winner here. It has BACON.
Please wish Miss Doris happy birthday from me, your invisible internet friend. I hope she has a wonderful day.
You keep physically and mentally busy, and your family doesn’t seem to have the same issues (your mom, for example). There are no guarantees in life, but I think you’re doing the right things.
Hubby is worried about the heat wave and I am ignoring it. I think we’ve already been through a few of these this summer. Other than placating hubby, I plan to order groceries and that’s about it for the day.
Sketty sauce is simmering and I told SIL I don’t want the kids before 4 - he was going to bring them at 3. Nope. Not today… But I will feed them pasta with sauce - maybe shells?
I’m taking a peach break - OMG, the local peaches are so good this year!!!
Once I’ve ingested them, I need to push the vacuum around. Good times!!
I made my honey whiskey muffins last night in anticipation of daughter’s arrival. I have more cooking, a whole lotta cleaning, laundry, a workout, and assorted other tasks today. I’m really hoping TPTB let her out early for the holiday weekend so she’s not driving in the dark. For some reason, the idea of her driving over the (well-lit) pass at night makes me nervous.
I miss ice makers. I mean, I have some, but they’re rectangular plastic and have to have warm water run over their undersides to get the cubes out. I used to buy ice, but now that I don’t have a car, I’d be paying good money for a bag o’ water.
swampy, I forgot to say congrats on the upcoming great-nephew. I’m sure he’s got the cutest little tushie in town. And toast Miz Doris for us. You’ve mentioned her before, so I almost feel like we know her.
JtC: congrats to mom on her fair win! Very impressive!
That’s what happened to my niece last weekend. New stove was to arrive between 12 pm and 4 pm, and they paid extra to have the old dead one hauled away. She arrived home from church at 11:30 and found new stove sitting in the rain next to the old stove. They’re still trying to get the big home improvement chain to make things right.
You’re a good boss–very wise of you!
If they like the assisted living place, might their stay be shortened? I hope so, for your sake.
Thanks for the comments about renter’s insurance vis-à-vis management requirements. We’ll check on it.
Headed for the museum down the street this P.M. On Monday we’re going to drive over to a u-pick apple orchard, although what we’ll do with more than two apples is a mystery. I guess we could make applesauce. Or a couple of pies. Oh, I know: apple turnovers!
No, this trip is pretty much set in stone. Even if they like the apartment, none are currently available, plus they need to sell their house in FL. I’ll be amazed if anything happens before the end of the year.
Saw the PA at the allergist’s for my 6 month checkup. She gave me enough samples of Trelegy to last 1.5 months, thereby saving me $250. That sh!t is expensive but it keeps me breathing. Then to the chiro, then to the Teeyota dealer for an oil change. Lunch is leftovers, then I’m napping. Dinner is Panera wild rice and chicken soup and a sallit.
I recently started with Trelegy too, having been diagnosed with asthma at the ripe age of 72. There’s a trick to being able to afford it, but it depends on how you are insured. It was over $700 (!!!yikes!) for me even with GoodRx but the pharmacist had a sleight of hand with Medicare that made it free.
PM me with how you’re insured if you would like the differentials on affording Trelegy, which I agree is a great help.
Reasonable heaving today. I’m just short of 40 hours already, and I got my old people discount yesterday. I changed my sheets, got a load in the dryer and one in the washer,. Go me.
Naptime.
I had to fish Fred out of the bathroom sink. Again.
It’s to keep a certain crawling terror from snacking on it himself. Anyway, it’s done. And I fixed a wobbly table and stirred the sketty sauce and picked up dog toys.
It’s starting to get warm in here - I may have to turn on the air, dammit.
