Pass the salt in the MMP

Started the day off with scrambled eggs made with Cotswold cheese (double Gloucester with onions and chives). It needed no salt. Cleaned up some more crap from our move (yes, we’re still dealing with it), but not much else. Tomorrow is biscuits and gravy in the dining room. It’s the only decent breakfast they make down there. Then we’ll haul a bunch of storage bins down to the storage lockers in the garage and try to be done with that onerous chore.

I wonder if you would tell me about that cooking hedgehog, please?

I made the alfredo sauce with shrimp. I offered pasta to the Spousal Unit, but she said she’d like to try the Trader Joe’s Kohlrabi Noodles like I was having. One bag ($3.29, I think) fed both of us. She liked it. I also made garlic-parmesan bread with slices of low-carb multigrain.

It was good. But butter, cream, garlic, and parmesan cheese you could put on shredded cardboard and it would be good. :stuck_out_tongue:

flyboy, during G&T season, I buy these for use with the SodaStream. They would likely work just as well with bottled selzer.

kay, this is the hedgehog who fixed supper for me. :stuck_out_tongue:

We have returned from the birthday celebration. Zoe looked adorable and Adam was his usual happy self. Grandpa was occupied by Adam from the time we arrived. Zoe had a couple of mini melt downs, but I managed to soothe her and then she was fine.

Metal Mouse, believe me, I am very happy about a working ice maker. I didn’t mean to imply otherwise.

It’s time for some relaxation now.

I have Britbox, Acorn, PBS, Hulu, Prime and Netflix. One of my favorite shows on BritBox is Vera. They have latest season on there.

I hate Labor Day weekend. It marks the anniversary of my late Other Shoe’s death, and no, time does not heal all wounds.

Last year at this time, I was doing some back of house prep work and wound up labeling about two dozen containers with his “deathday” (it’s like a birthday, but shittier) over and over.
A mundane task for anyone else, but internally very excruciating for me.

This year is quieter.

… and guess what happened at work today? A customer randomly brought us a bouquet of flowers, as a token of appreciation. I’m not much for superstitions, spirituality, miracles, etc. but I decided to treat them as if my beloved had sent flowers to me at work.

In a way, maybe he did.

It was just a “common” drugstore bouquet - but it was a delightful surprise for all of us, everyone took turns cooing over the nice gesture, and, well, they were kinda extra-special for me.

So sorry, Shoe. Today happens to be my Dad’s death day, 12 years ago.

:notes: It was the third of September
That day I’ll always remember
‘Cause that was the day that my daddy died
:notes:

Crazy busy at the zoo, but at least all the employees showed up today. Came home to happy hour with Mrs W and her sister and brother-in-law. Good wine and just a bit of tequila. Hence this slightly drunk post.

Hugs to all, see you tomorrow.

It’s 2140 and the outside temp is hovering around a hundred. We are used to it getting hot during the day, but it is supposed to cool down at night. Grumbles.

A while back, hubs went no carb. That was fine for him but didn’t work for me. You can take my chocolate and/or sourdough bread from my cold dead hands, goshdarnit. Now that he’s the main cook, most of our meals are a slab of meat and a few lima beans. I cook when I’m tired of his cooking. Or we just go out.

I’ve got a hankering for crustless chicken pot pie, so grabbed a bag of chicken thighs and boiled them into submission. The meat is off the bone and in the fridge while the skin and bones along with some a limp carrot, a couple of celery tops and half an onion. are back in the pot to simmer until morning.

Many years ago, I boiled up some lovely bone stock and carefully strained the bones and skin out while I let the stock run down the drain.

Now I always make a point to get the strainer and bowl out and put it by the sink. Hubs helpfully puts everything back away and then I tell him what I’m doing and why, then he leaves them out as a reminder for me. Rituals and routines are important.

Yep! GG has suddenly noticed that I play with string a lot. He stares and I glare and growl and then he goes and finds VBC to see what she is doing. I’ve been playing with string since he moved in over a year ago, why is he suddenly noticing now?

There are NO common bouquets if they are given by choice. I’m glad it made you feel a little better on such a horrible anniversary.

You have been my inspiration for years, why is this happening! I might have to remove my swampy fangirl button if it continues!

How were they and recipe please? I’m glad you were able to enjoy time with your daughter.

I personally don’t care about getting doxxed. I know that there are a lot of strange people out there, but I’m also so unimportant that I doubt anyone would really care enough to bother.

Hurray! I’ll bet the lack of walls was what bothered you, when folks spend a bunch of time inside the big wide outdoors is unsettling. I LOVE our porch and will happily spend hours out there. Hubs isn’t used to being outside so he just stands out on the step before going back inside.

I am so happy this gig is working out so well. I agree with the smartest bear in the world that the shop owner knows what will sell at what price point. I’m hoping you will get the 30 bread board job, but be sure to have the shop owner have one to sell so the restaurant folks know where customers can buy their wonderful bread boards.

Buddy seems to be in a very homebody mood. He hadn’t gone outside for over two days, then when he did go out this evening, he was meowing to be let back in within half an hour. Allie, of course, considers this entirely too much of his company for her royal taste. She’s been advised she’ll just have to cope, and that we still love her as much as we always have.

Last phone contact with medical types got more complex than necessary, IMO. Thursday evening, I called the appointment and advice line to make sure that second positive Covid test wasn’t going to require me to reschedule imminent appointments. Appointment lady didn’t think so, decided she was unsure enough that I should talk to a nurse. Reasonable, so I did.

Nurse confirmed I was still OK for scheduled appointments on the 9th and 16th, then dug into my history to check on some things she apparently found concerning (for all I know, she could access the records for the event monitor). She found the conversation worrisome enough to schedule me for a phone appointment with PCP ASAP.

PCP decided that between my conversation with her and with the nurse, I now needed a prescription for nitroglycerin that needed to be filled ASAP. Since I was still in quarantine yesterday (earliest this could be done), I had to send DH to fetch it (testing negative and now free of quarantine), which he did.

Actually wound up using one today, while we were out on a ramble. I’ve been having intermittent kind of stabby/poky pains in the chest region, not all that serious (I’d rate it about a 3-4 intensity-wise and usually only a couple of seconds or so), or so I’d thought, but PCP didn’t like it, thus the near-microscopic nitro. One such incident lasted a bit longer than usual (pain level no more than usual for this), so teeny pill goes under tongue. Result: chest was happier, but I was VERY light-headed and developed a headache.

No, I was not driving. When DH and I go somewhere together, unless he’s too tired/ill to drive safely or is not physically able (such as when he had a broken leg), he pretty much insists on being the driver. Fine by me.

My warranty has definitely expired, based on how fast I seem to be falling apart.

SOMEbody around here did me a kindness and sent me a little gift. The timing was impeccable; it arrived this evening. Thank you, from the bottom of my tiny, shriveled little heart.

In more heart-warming news, there was a skunk in my yard a few minutes ago! Nah, not vermin: I was super excited!

Considering how many times I’ve heard versions of this story (and having done it inadvertently once myself - also, another time, pouring boiling hot stock into a non-Pyrex glass bowl to strain, and both losing the stock AND cleaning glass shards for endless days) this is just apparently a Thing People Who Cook Do sometimes.

Well, I’m not getting it there in time, but {{{{{{{{ shoe }}}}}}}}. I’m at a loss for words to describe anniversary dates that are that crummy.

@Seanette, glad you have a responsive PCP office, even though they seem to muddle a bit. Filling a prescription and then actually taking the medicine as prescribed? Girl, you do this old nurse’s heart good, so that’s two :blue_heart::purple_heart: you are taking care of!

I’m not sure that prescription wasn’t a bit of an overreaction, but I do follow instructions unless I have a VERY good reason not to.

A nurse’s dream!

We had a wonderful day today. Walked 6 miles, with a time out for lunch, then cocktails on the balcony and a lot of conversation and laughter. I turned to her and said, "I was SO hoping a hummer would come while you were–"and a hummingbird appeared! It didn’t want to sip any nectar, so apparently it just wanted to say hi. Then we came in and had cacciatore.

nettie, I’d rather docs err on the side of caution than blow you off.

{{{{{{shoe}}}}}}

swampy, you slothed (a little): all’s right with the world.

JtC: I don’t have an actual recipe, but basically, for two cocktails, I use the juice of 3/4ths of a fresh lime, a little simple syrup, about 12 oz. watermelon juice, and, er, uh, a lot of rum. My daughter likes hers with a rim of salt. There are recipes all over the internet, so you may find one you like better.

It’s not acknowledging that I knew him; it’s that some articles mention where he grew up. It’s a small town, so figuring out things from there isn’t hard. How do I know this? Years ago, I got cyber-stalked by a guy who only knew my town name (required by the social media site), that I was a high school teacher, and my content area. A real creeper and not all that bright, so if he could do it…

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 73 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 87 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization followed by first Sunday brunch. This is IP’s first Sunday with us, so we shall meet at nine a.m. (an hour before the service) to go over some details. We Whiskypalians and Luteruns have a very ordered worship service and just forbid it should it not go smoothly! Anywho, after all that and then brunch, y’all best believe sloth will be in high gear when we return to da cave. Poor OYKW is in charge of takin’ all the foodstuffs we made to the church and gettin’ it all safely inside.

{{{shoe}}} anniversaries like that are never any easier no matter how much time has passed. Feel sad all you want. The customer who brought in the flowers is aces!

Nettie sounds like you have a really good PCP who is concerned for your well-bein’. I also try to follow medical advice/orders from my docs. After all, that is why we go to see 'em in the first place, to keep us upright and as healthy as possible.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Ahhh. I should have guessed, but we had some terrible experiences at that chain and so I have blocked it out of my memory. Maybe we should give them another chance?

{{{shoe}}} - BTW, I know who’s responsible for your little surprise, but I ain’t tellin’! No, it wasn’t me.

My MIL always seems to find Very Good Reasons to screw with her meds. Like - “they’re so expensive, I’m going to save the rest, just in case…” I can’t even blame the internet - she doesn’t know how to use it and can’t see anyway, so it’s not like she’s taking stupid advice from imaginary strangers. But I guess she knows better than those silly men with medical degrees and years of experience.

Holy crap! FWIW, that’s why I tell all youse imaginary folks that I live in Southern Merrylande and leave it at that. Tho some do know my address and some have even been to my house!! I also keep my FB as Friends Only, and I don’t mention this board or my username on FB in an attempt to keep them separate, for whatever that’s worth.

Slept thru the night without benefit of Mel - huzzah! I forgot to mention yesterday - my granddaughter farts in her sleep! She was sound asleep when I crawled into bed with my tablet, and as I lay there, I’d hear little toots from time to time! But last night was toot-less and I feel human this morning.

I’m going to gather trash and recycling and run to the convenience center. It’s not a full load, but it’s the only chance I’ll have before they get here, since the facility closes on Labor Day. I also need to reinforce the little bench that sits at the foot of our bed. FCD shifts to the left and right a lot when putting on his shoes and socks - he’s got to use a couple of devices to help him with that since he can’t bend, thanks to all the hardware in his spine. And it was a cheapie bench anyway, so the screws aren’t gripping as well as they should. I’m going to put a board across the back to keep it from rocking side-to-side. It won’t be pretty but it sits against the foot of the bed, so it’ll be hidden. And no one comes into our room anyway.

Beyond that, dunno. Besides the kitchen needing tidying, and the guest room needing organizing… I’m sure I’ll keep out of trouble. Probably.

Happy Sunday!

{{{shoe}}} I have an anniversary like that in the spring. Some years are harder than others. Your customer who brought the flowers rocks!

Glad that your PCP is on the ball seanette.

kay, some of the hedgehog’s fare is crap, but they do make a good chicken sandwich.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and supper (mushroom barley stew) is in the crock. I need to go do KP and breakfast / lunch prep for the week shortly, then I’ll purtify and go drink coffee with the heathens.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!
