Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. Cleaning and afternoon sloth on the agenda today.
Glad the PCP was on the ball today, nettie.

Well, that cat fart just ruined my weekend.
And on that note, good morning all. Went to bed last night while it was raining and woke to heavy rain, which is now slowed to a drizzle, but more storms are predicted for this afternoon, so a day of sloth is probable. Newspaper is late as they have to get the very last atom of detail about Auburn and Alabama tackleball in before publishing, will take a look again after finishing this message.
{{{Shoe}}}. And blessings upon that anonymous customer.
nellie, never been cyber-stalked (probably too dumb to notice it even if I was), but outside of N. Ali-bama (which narroes it down to 400,000 or so), don’t give out too much information.
And glad you and daughter-unit had such a wonderful time.
Seanette, best be safe than sorry–sounds like you’re a model patient.
You forget it’s GG you’re talking about…
OK, need to go check for the newspaper again and get back to being slothful. All y’all take care.
Trash and recycling has been dispatched. I’ve got a load of towels and such in the washer. I just finished tidying the kitchen, and I’m eating my last peach, so I see a trip down the road to the farm - a good excuse to fill the truck, too, as it’s under a quarter tank. OK, I won’t fill it, but I’ll get it above half a tank.
I’ve got the bedroom bench in the kitchen - next step is hauling it to the shop… after I get the towels on the line. I’m sure I have a board or a hunk of plywood that will do the job. FCD would insist on painting it and all that, but he’s not here so I’m doing it my way.
I should pull something out of the freezer for supper - it may be another Mahi fillet - they’re soooooooo good! And I still have broccoli crowns. I think I have a plan.
Timer is beeping - time to hang the towels!
shoe. I HATE the 4th of July and Labor Day holidays because of bad memories. So I totally understand. Spontaneous gifts from strangers make one feel out of this world. It’s glorious to know someone is thinking of you,
I literally have no plans for today. SLOTH RULES!
Good morning everyone.
shoe, I am sending you hugs.
I had a nice time at Zoe’s birthday party yesterday. My mother was also there, and it becomes more apparent that her memory is going. Every 10 minutes she’d grab my arm and say “Did I tell you my doctor said I have macular degeneration and I’ll probably go blind?”. Not exaggerating, it was every ten minutes. I don’t know what we’re going to do if that actually happens. She’s scared to death of being put in a home, and I can’t care for her, since I work. My sister is running her to appointments and stuff now, but I honestly don’t think she’ll want mom living with her either. I guess we’ll see what happens.
I don’t have any plans for today; some tooling around in the yard, some laundry, some puzzle putting together. I think I’m going to go out and look at mattresses tomorrow. I need one for a guest bed, but I don’t want to order on line, I want to lie down on them and check out the comfort levels.
Gee, something I have a little experience with…
First, I know there are a couple of types of macular degeneration - the one my MIL has hasn’t completely blinded her, tho reading is next to impossible. She can still see enough to get around the house and do some chores.
As for a “home” - look around for independent living/assisted living places. She may be able to have an apartment of her own with help nearby if she needs it. Like this place we’re hoping FCD’s folks will like - they have call buttons throughout the apartment so if they need help, the front desk is notified and can call 911. And, of course, there are facilities that have a nurse on duty, tho they cost more. Anyway, it’s not too soon to check such places out, and try to get your mom settled so as she does lose her sight, she’ll be familiar with her surroundings.
Sister, I know what you’re dealing with!
The towels and stuff are out on the line. I just finished adding a brace to the shoe bench. I found a scrap of masonite that’s white on one side and it worked perfectly! I also added screws to the side where the screws were stripping out. It’s a cheap press-board piece of furniture, but I think it’s good for a few more years. So yay!
And it’s about lunch time. I may go the lazy route and have a bowl of cereal. Off to forage!
to shoe and Wheelz
I slept well and felt better when I first woke up, but by the time I got out of the shower the sinus pressure and throat tickle had returned. My friends and I rescheduled our dinner for tomorrow, but on the conditions that I’m feeling better and keep testing negative. I’m hoping another day of sloth will help me kick whatever’s going on. I’m even happier than I already was that tomorrow is a () holiday!
I’m rarely sick. Of course I’ll have a cold every now and then, but I don’t remember the last time I had the flu or even a bad cold – and I’m in the dwindling minority that hasn’t had COVID yet (emphasis on “yet”). I’ve always had a pretty good immune system, so whenever something does go on I have very little patience for it. Sometimes I think it would be nice to have someone around when I don’t feel well, but mostly it’s a good thing that I live alone.
It’s just after 1pm: time for lunch, and more episodes of For All Mankind. I’ve been watching a few at a time and then – when I need a break from the drama – switching to old episodes of NewsRadio, which recently became available on Amazon. (I can’t believe that show premiered 27 years ago!!) I only have 3 episodes of For All Mankind left, which is just about perfect: I’ll finish the season, and by then I’ll be ready for some NewsRadio.
Why yes, afternoon TV planning does make me happier than it probably should!
Ha! I do that with flies that get into my kitchen while I’m using the back door. Every now and then one of them will “get it” and fly back outside, but more often than not I find the dumbass on the floor somewhere in a day or two.
I’ve never had allergies, but I know they can develop in middle age. Some OTC meds become verboten after bariatric surgery; I’ll check with my nurse practitioner about Benedryl and Claritin! I’m not sure anymore about my allergy theory, though: except for the hour I spent outside yesterday morning, I’ve been safely inside my climate-controlled domicile. Maybe having the windows open for several hours on Friday resulted in some kind of persistent sinus irritation…? Or, maybe the onset of symptoms that day was just a concidence. Whatever this is, it can stop now plz k thks!
That’s pretty awesome!
Interesting! That might be a thing for some folks, but I’m actually outside pretty regularly; it doesn’t bother me at all.
Mowage achieved. It turns out (no surprise) I’m a dumbass. The riding mower I said wasn’t working last week? Out of gas.
Laundry done, needs folding, which is my least favorite task around the house.
{{{shoe}}} For just about everything.
unknown Feel better! I’m looking forward to finishing For All Mankind too.
doggio Must have been quite the blast from the cat!
Hammincheese omelette for breakfast.
We have 2 pounds of chicken wing segments, so I made a marinade of lime juice, soy sauce, fish sauce, maple syrup, lemon grass, minced ginger (heh… typo’d ‘minged’ ginger), and olive oil, and blended it with an immersion blender. The mostly still-frozen wings and the marinade are in the fridge.
Dinner tonight will be cheeseburgers on the barbie. Also chicken wings.
Oh, it started raining eatlier, so I got the bow out of the boot and put the car cover on the MGB. Then it stopped raining. [NB: The tonneau cover was on and zipped.] The rain really showed how dirty the car was. I towelled it off, and the car looks better. The towel doesn’t.
I drove the MG to the supermarket because my fish sauce seems to have gone missing, and I needed it for the marinade.
Happy Sunday!
It was a nice 70 degrees this morning, but it’s 88 degrees and humid now.
Small group at the park this morning, but a mostly nice group.
I almost left because I got really pissed at Barky mom. Sometimes she doesn’t know when to shut up.
Ugh, now every time another dog barks she makes a comment about it and how her dogs aren’t the only ones that bark. Then she made a nasty remark to me about something.
Yesterday was drama day. Lily mom got there first and there was somebody sitting in the parking lot. She got nervous and called the police as it was still dark and she didn’t know what they were up to. We’ve had incidents, but it turned out to be nothing. Somebody who came to walk their dog, but for some reason sat in their car for quite a while before walking. She had called the police, but by the time they got there, the person was gone.
Then the Plott Hound guy showed up. He got mad because all the dogs were at the gate and he wanted us to keep our dogs away from his dog. In a dog park. We’ve seen him before and he’s never been nasty before. However, to make matters worse, one of our regulars knows him personally and can’t stand him, so he got very shitty back. Our regular used to run a store downtown, and Plott Hound guy is well known around town for shoplifting.
I have nothing to say about shoplifting, I wasn’t there, but if you don’t want other dogs around your dog, don’t go to the dog park. I don’t know why some people have a problem with understanding that.
Echo is still being a bitch with Jackson. She saw me petting him today and at first, I thought she was okay with it. Nope, the mean growling started and she was MAD!
My dogs are making me crazy. Ripple has started to stick up his nose at certain treats. He stands there and waits for me to go through all of them until I pull out the kind he wants. Now Echo has started doing it.
I always tell people, you don’t train a Pei, they train you. Lucky for them, I am easily trained.
I ran out of their favorite treat yesterday, but da jungle delivered more. I hadn’t unpacked them yet and neither of them would leave me alone until I got them out. They are allowed only one a day, but damn they want it and I can’t get any peace until they get it.
Adam cat has had us worried.
He has his routines and he isn’t following them anymore. He was gone for over 24 hours and I thought he may have died. He finally came home, but he is not keeping to his normal schedule.
So today I need to finish unpacking boxes, and pick up groceries. I have several cards I need to write out and take to the PO on the way to get groceries.
{{{Shoe}}}
After watching some TV, I took the truck and 2 gas cans to the WaWa. I put $40 of gas in the truck - barely hit half a tank - then another $24 divided between the two cans. I now have mower gas. I ran into WaWa to use their no-fee ATM, since I was out of cash.
Stopped at the farm store on the way home and got more of their amazing peaches, some Gala apples, some 'maters, and some cukes. I’ll make a cuke-onion salad tomorrow, and I’m thinking I’ll build some sort of peach dessert for the impending visitors.
FCD is thinking of driving straight thru overnight. He thinks if his dad sleeps the whole way, it’ll be easier for everyone. I’m not so sure his dad will sleep. But he did promise me he’ll stop if he gets sleepy himself. So there’s that. If he succeeds, he’ll be here on Weds morning before Tobias shows up. In any event, I need to plan dinner for 4 on Weds. In fact, I really should map one my dinner plans for the week - I’ve said that a few times, haven’t I? It’s not my favorite thing.
Well, daughter has left. <sniff, sniff>. I am NOT crying. I have something in my eye…tears. This morning we lingered over coffee and had a deep and far-ranging discussion. I’m so, SO glad she made the trip. Of course, I loaded her up with food/leftovers when she departed. I have sheets and towels to launder, and I need to walk to the pharmacy and then to the cheaper grocery store.
flyboy, I thought of you and Mrs. LA because my daughter was telling me how much she loves kayaking, but she only does lake kayaking (if that’s what she called it). She said sea kayaking is harder. Isn’t that the kind you and your wife do?
JtC, I thought of you when daughter was telling stories about the nebelung they have who looks like GG and is also not the brightest bulb in the box. Like you, they also have a reasonably intelligent cat who can’t figure out why the hoomans wanted to adopt an idiot when they already had perfection.
metalmouse, you haven’t mentioned braunschweiger lately. Hope you’re still indulging.
Blessings upon the Mumper who sent something to good ol’ shoe. Whoever you are, you’re the cat’s pajamas.
nettie, I hope assisted living is doable for your mom.
oopsie, sorry you’re still under the weather. I’m going to have to look into For All Mankind, as I keep reading good things about it.
Sari, I had to look up plott hounds. Interesting breed! Their body shape looks kind of like greyhounds. Sorry its person is so difficult.
Seems like expecting people to stay away from you in a mosh pit.
In a thought bubble: Yes, their owner does, too.
And I have to say, Ripple sure is smart. I imagine he considers himself to have a discriminating palate . I hope Adam Cat is OK. (His name isn’t a pun, is it?)
VanGo, are flies dumber than moths, would you say ?
*sigh*
Started raining again. Had to cover up the MG again.
In over 20 years, I’ve only paddled in salt water. The Missus and I have been out twice, and it was in salt water. The only ‘hard’ part is the timing. Not so much paddling out into the Pacific, but in Birch Bay you need to come in with the tide or else you’ll be working against the current. (Yeah, I’m that lazy.)
That wasn’t me. My mother doesn’t speak to me. She’s recently been doing a Scientology-style “disconnect” ideological purge of any family members to the right of Bernie Sanders. So much for unconditional love, right?
I’m so sorry. I meant to make that to Taters. Sorry to you, too, Taters!
I had to chuckle about your lawn mower story VanGo. It sounds like stuff I’ve done.
Chores are done, dinner et and fixing to play around some more in the studio. I finished up three kids’ birthday cards today too: hula girl mermaid and snorkler . They’re all cards that you shake to have the sequins float around, kind of like bubbles.
Tomorrow, I have to irk (didn’t get my request in soon enough), but will likelly be sent home early.
Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated, had brunch, came back to da cave and achieved nappage. Now ‘tis rainin’ out, so glad to be inside and dry. I am feelin’ all sinusy myself so I think I may go to bed with Ben.
I read all, but right now comprehension is all but none, so yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, noogies, and how you doin’s all around as needed.
Spent most of Sunday with a migraine. Was on the couch in jammies til noon then decided to take a migraine pill. DUH! That worked so I went to the barn to visit Ariel and hang out. I almost stopped on the way home for a BLAT until I remembered I have bacon, lettuce, farm maters, and an avocado at home. I am now nomming on my homemade BLAT.
