Pass The Turkey, Eh? A (Canadian)Thanksgiving MMP

Good (late) morning everyone.

You guys are such a caution. I oughta do this! Seriously, it’s part of a wider problem concentrated (IMO) in the deep South. The opinions of familiar and/or kin supersede those of any unknown expert. Faced with a choice of Jeb down at the wreckin’ yard, or a team of PhD engineers from the NTHSA, southerners turn to Jeb for opinions on seat belt use. This seems to be common, and is probably worthy of its own thread (re: vaccinations, etc.). So, Aunt Flo who has some connection to the medical field is the expert and my cardiologist and anesthesiologist should consult with her regarding the anesthesia for upcoming procedures. And Yes. This actually happened. Aunt Flo is known, the doctors are strangers. Case closed.

I joke about OPSEC, but if I hide a significant medical issue, and it’s discovered later – sigh. You get the picture.

I’m sorry to hear this, and troubled by its frequency. I posted a “What’s the main reason you retired?” question on a retirees forum several years ago. The number one response was: “Sick of the corporate bullshit.” It’s no wonder the younger gens (Z/X/etc.) are so disillusioned. They’re starting careers in the toxic corporate environments we could no longer face. I wish you luck, whatever form that takes.

Sorry… on a more MMP-ish note:
I finished the trip to the marina yesterday, and declined the offer of the new slip. The placement of electrical service and other stuff would make climbing onto my boat more iffy. Skipping the details, but as an oldster, I need to concentrate on footing etc., and I’m safer where I am.
I did spend a few hours cleaning and spiffing my floating “man cave”. The spiders, wasps, and dirt-dobbers are much worse this year for some reason. Thankfully fall is here and their number will decline for the next few months.

Hope the rest of the week goes well for everyone.

Took the cat to the vet for teeth cleaning this morning. A very angsty time, as they have to anesthetize for that. She was pretty unhappy this morning, as she hadn’t eaten since last evening and couldn’t understand why her meowing wasn’t resulting in food from the hooman. We dropped her off at about 0800, and when we called a short while ago they said she was done and everything went well, with no extractions ($$$$) necessary. Now we’re waiting for a call to come and get her.

Back from DH’s trip to the DMV. Still a PITA, but a more efficient PITA than they used to be, especially if you have the sense (or the lead time) to make an appointment. We were ridiculously early, at DH’s insistence, but he was still talking to a clerk about 15 minutes before he was technically scheduled. As DMV visits go, relatively painless.

The rest of the day is TBD.

Good news, Meals on Wheels operates on a sliding scale so they will be paying for those meals, hopefully making them more appealing. Here’s the info for Central Maryland MOW:

I don’t know what county they are in but I bet the system is close to the same if they are not in that coverage area. They can get two meals delivered a day, one hot lunch and a cold sack supper, which would sure relieve MIL of having to cook except for cereal for breakfast. The central Maryland one provides some shelf stable backup meals in case of weather preventing deliveries and bundles in some other nice optional services like wellness checks and a weekly friendly visitor.

Happy (oh gawd wtf day is it?) Toosday!

It was chilly, 42 degrees, at the park this morning.
I got there at 605, supposed to meet up with Lily and Lucy2.
Nobody was there.
Lucy2 had already been and went, Lily mom was very sore from all the angry cleaning (which included yard irk) and could barely walk. She finally made it by 630.
I left just before 8, I couldn’t take the cold anymore.
The light bulbs are burned out in the pavilion, so it is very dark in there.

The lightbulb in the pack porch light burned out. It lasted almost 8 years!
But it is the reason I was up past midnight.

My son replaced the bulb in the backlight, but it wouldn’t come on. He tried two other bulbs and it still wouldn’t come on. Oh well, another piece of shit to deal with, but we can live without the light.

I went up to get a bath. My son told me to let him know when I was draining the water (because of the leaking pipe in the basement. The tub gets about halfway empty and he starts yelling for me to stop. It took about 20 minutes to drain the tub. I’d wait a few minutes, let a little more water out, then stop. Fortunately, my son didn’t have to keep running to the basement to check for water as the kitchen sink gurgles right before the pipe leaks.
By the time I got to bed it was near 10.
I usually fall asleep pretty quickly, but not last night.
As I was drifting off, my son came in my room to tell me the washer wouldn’t start. The outlet isn’t working. Poor guy, he was down in the basement testing the breakers, then running back up to me to tell me what was going on. He must have done the stairs a dozen times, down to the basement, then upstairs to me.
I said, test the outlet on the other side of the sink and if it works, push the washer over there and we’ll worry about the broken outlet in the morning. I’m just hoping squirrels didn’t chew the wiring or something. That is when he noticed the red light on the outlet was blinking. He pushed it and everything is working now, including the porch light.
That was an easy fix, but I was still up past midnight.
I got up at 530, I am going to be feeling pretty poorly soon.

We’re pretty sure the water issue is the sewer pipe is clogged. A little water goes through fine; a large amount backs up. I flushed the root killer but it doesn’t seem to be helping. I have some more to flush, but I’m going to look online for something stronger.
I probably should say something to the neighbor. Maybe she can do something on her side to help open the clog.

Good luck with the problem child BooFae

Everything sounds like a pain in the ass anymore to me Shoe

I didn’t get the job ap finished yesterday.
I don’t know how I missed it, but I am not eligible for the job.
That sux, but such is life.

I’ve tried calling NIece1 about the trust, but she not answering.

Management is not the problem where I irk Yankers. I never hear from them unless there is a problem. I’m pretty much my own boss within certain parameters.
I think it’s more burnout, and some nasty customers have latched onto me because I am so nice.
No, I’m polite, because that is how you should be in a business environment. I know all about please and thank you and the appropriate soothing words. Doesn’t mean I mean them. If their rude asses could read my mind, they would not think I’m nice at all.

I did irk for a company once that was horrible. I interviewed with several companies trying to get out of there. Every single one of them asked why I wanted to leave my current position, looked at my resume to see who I irked for, and said never mind, we can skip that question.
That company had a very bad (and deservedly so) reputation.
My boss was a bit of a bully though, but once I stood up to him, we got along a lot better. I actually started to like him, but I still didn’t want to irk for him.

There was a mass firing of management there. It seems a group of bigwigs went to Florida to view some new facilities. Major bigwig said the place looked kind of dark. The comment whooshed right over the manager’s head as he said, but we just had all new lighting fixtures put in. However, it didn’t whoosh over all heads and was reported. Huge uproar, huge upheaval, and lots of turnover at the higher levels.

But they weren’t as bad as the previous company that had ‘secretaries’ on staff whose real job was to entertain the out-of-town salesmen. Being female, and not a secretary, I was grossly underpaid there.

GenZ may have issues with management, but we did too back in the day.
Just different issues.

I have no motivation today.

So Midnight ran late, so we started late. Plus, the Blueberries are learning a harsh lesson in hard work.

That’s almost Douglas Admas-esque!

Not much exciting here. Sun’s already down, and if if the neighborhood didn’t have so much exterior lighting, we could probably see a good number of stars.

There’s a lot of discussion here because of the energy crisis if decreasing exterior lighting will increase crime.

Keep forgetting to change the sheets, so that’s one way to have less laundry. Everything else is caught up. Well, it was, and then hubby received a package in the mail with more clothes. Something to be done the next day we’re working from home.

Still have to take care of the dead car battery. Something else for future us.

Seem to be on a procrastination kick. Might have to do something about that, but not today. Tonight is watching the boob tube and getting to bed early.

Also wondering about hoop cheese. Something new to me as well.

This. Our friend was paying 6 dollars a day for his MOW. The other big part of MOW is having someone go to their home for a “wellness” check every day. Having a friendly face arrive with food tends to cheer people up, hopefully they will consider it.

Our housekeeper asked to change her day with us because she wanted to do a big job on our regular day. Usually she comes first thing in the morning, but today she is coming late because she has another job at our usual time so she will be here at noon, This is going to really upset the cat nap schedule, they usually settle in for a long nap around one.

We plan to go to a little diner in Black Canyon City and then go to the dispensary in New River. I’ll be pretty mello when we get home, hubs will get to listen to the drama with his reality unmodified.

Sticking my head in to say hi. Hi!

Things are better in the overly household, but really, really busy. Fortunately, mom’s chemo week before last was a mega loading dose and the remaining doses will be easier and smaller. So she felt way better last week than the week before. Fingers crossed for continuation.

I’ve never heard the term “hoop cheese” before, but I like it.

Work is bonkers lately. It’s fall, so we’re reorging. Things that might also result in a reorg: it’s Tuesday. Someone sneezed. Oops, someone dropped something. Coffee spilled. (If you haven’t guessed by now, we reorganize a lot in my company.)

Anyway, I have my third new boss since July, starting on Monday. It’s possible I will have yet another new one by the end of the year, but we shall see. I was told about it really early this morning and then…nothing. Just instructions not to tell anyone. Naturally, someone else told someone, so everyone is coming to me asking what’s happening. I convinced my current boss to tell people. So that’ll happen soon today. The changes were at least logical, so not super surprising.

That’s the extent of my drama. For now.

Do you have the same phone number? If not, and this happens again … just call each other.
… unless he really needed the cardio, I guess.

I was texting with a friend about his new puppy, complete with photos of the cutie, and also ate a - for me - uncharacteristically large breakfast. A pre-work nap ensued, and I dreamed about puppies! Helluvan improvement over my usual dreams, which usually leave me feeling anxious or troubled.

Off to work open → close in an hour, which means a 10-hour shift. { checks vape charge } But I hung up some tiny multicolored lights in my window yesterday, so I have something festive looking to greet me when I get home.

Looking forward to finding out how much O.T. money I’ll wind up getting for last week. We oughta be getting a tip share soon, too - I’ve gotten two $20 tips in the past coupla weeks, likely from the same guy.

Time for a quick snack & smoke. See y’all later!

We never think about that, he only uses his phone for work.

Even so, he’d still probably run back and forth talking to me on his phone while standing next to me.

I am happy that he is trying to figure stuff out, being responsible, and trying to fix things himself.

It’s raining. I managed to ride Ariel prior to the rain. She’s tucked in the hay. I’m having fish and chips for dinner.

I think I sounded gloomy in my earlier post. I blame the headache. Some coffee and NSAIDS fixed me right up. I think it’s a sinus thing.

My brother called. My sister-in-law needs the same major oral surgery she had last year. Holy frick, it’s going to run $50,000! And it’s not something she can skip. She’s had quite a bit of bone loss in the last year. They think it was probably an asymptomatic infection. We’re going to postpone the Italy trip until next year.

Sari, I wish I could help in some way. It seems like every day brings you more bad news. This has GOT to stop, but I sure don’t know how. I hope it’s at least a little comfort that you have friends here on the MMP and that it’s available for venting 24/7.

shoe, I love the idea of little lights. We can’t put them in our window, but I think it’d be nice to wind them through the posts of my headboard. Thanks for the idea! I hope work goes by swiftly and smoothly.

I may accidentally be in DC next week. How, you ask? (Fine, you didn’t but I’m gong to tell you anyway.)

One of the very nice people in my new organization who happens to be boss of my boss asked me if I was going to X meeting next week. I said, “Oh, is there one here in the local office? I’m not invited, but if you’ll be in town, I would love to come meet you and say hi in person.”

This very nice person emailed All The Right People and asked that they arrange to make sure I’m included. Turns out that the meeting may have been moved to D.C. Meaning, I may or may not be flying to D.C. for the privilege of sitting in a conference room for 8 hours, then flying home again to make sure my mom gets to chemo on time.

I tried hard to be smart, but failed once more. Crapsicles.

I enjoy your cartoons doggio.

Irked, walked Nelson, et and am fixing to do KP. Such excitement!

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Backing into our slip can be a challenge - single engine, no bow thrusters, strong “walk” to port - especially in wind, so when we have to go in bow first, the only way on or off is over the rail. FCD installed a grab bar on the piling at the end of the finger pier, and we have a boarding ladder that we lash to the same piling. So, yeah, footing, safety, oldsters - we’re with ya!

Thanks, but we’re in Southern Maryland, so a different program. I already looked it up for our county - not sure if they’ll accept such help. Have I mentioned that they’re stubborn? But MIL will accept food that I make and she’ll pay her share of the ingredients. So that’s something, and I don’t mind.

I’m no expert, but when I had a similar problem some eons ago, the plumber needed a root-chopping snake to clear the pipe.

Sounds like my last gummint job - I had 13 different desks in 7 years, and I lost track of how many bosses.

What a day!! Last load is in the dryer - I had to take Tobias and pick up Roxy before that load was done. Daughter’s parent conference ran really long, but her #2 took the kids from me so I could fetch FCD. We’re home now. I had a salad and a hunk of swiss cheese for supper because it was too late to cook the chicken I marinated. Guess I have tomorrow’s supper ready.

FIL was really out of it this morning - apparently saying something about being in Auschwitz. Um, no, he wasn’t - ever. I suspect MIL isn’t keeping up with his meds. How to tell her she may be killing her husband??? FCD is so frustrated. It’s been a day.

Time to finish folding laundry, then chillage shall ensue.

That sounds like a good compromise, good nutrition and no cooking for them, less coping-with-stubbornness-and-jerking-around-of-well-meaning-service providers-just-trying-to-help for you.

I suspect you’re exactly right. Whoa! I’ve only seem that hundreds of time in my protracted career. Is she doing it out of misplaced frugality or is it that she knows better than those babyfaced doctors?

It’s so sad because of all the diseases, Parkinson’s is one that really really really needs careful adherence to a finely tuned schedule and dosages to help control that hideous disease process. I’ve seen where during the waking hours meds needed to be taken hourly and if done right, did help with the dementia and physical tremors and rigidity, swallowing, etc. Wing and a prayer amateur freelancing is the opposite of what FIL needs.

Could one of you go to his doctor with him, get the meds regimen detailed out to you in front of MIL so she knows that you know what should be happening? Maybe then you could set up pill planners for him weekly? Granted you’re still dependent on her handing him the pills out of the planner at the right time, without her ‘editing’ the dose.

It’s not easy to fix or bring about changes, 41+ years of nursing has taught me that. MIL May not like you for awhile but FIL might have less dementia and physical discomfort and disability if inroads could be made. Sigh…

Howdy Y’all! We fended off the ghosts of 20,000 judgemental old women and Joan Crawford. This was followed by nappage, sloth, day drinkin’, and the eatin’ of sup, which also got cooked, so I guess that was today’s other productive thing. We are promised much rain tomorrow. We shall see.

For those who are curious, hoop cheese. I forget it is pretty much a southern U.S.ofA. thing. It is, IMO, THE cheese to eat with sardines and crackers. The crackers must be saltine crackers. It’s the law.

No, it’s mostly that she forgets. Her phone has an alarm set for when he needs his meds, but if she’s doing something when it goes off, she cancels the alarm and doesn’t give him the meds.

FCD is planning to get them a device that will dispense the meds according to schedule that he can program. But that won’t help if he/they keep dropping pills. I vacuumed up a bunch when they removed furniture from the old house. And we don’t have doctors for them yet, but MIL hears what she wants to hear, so no matter what she’s told, she’ll filter it as she wishes.

We fear FIL has Alzheimer’s, based solely on some reading FCD has been doing. Couple that with Parkinson’s - the poor guy doesn’t stand a chance. I’ll be amazed if he lives to see 2023 unless something drastic changes.

Have I mentioned that I’m exhausted? At least my laundry is done for now.

I’ve been seeing a device like that on my FB and every time I think of you and the FCinlaws. And you’re right, somebody has to remember to come get the pills when it dispenses them and hope they aren’t dropped in the process.

Parkinson’s alone can account for the dementia. 75% of people with Parkinson’s for 10 years have cognitive impairment and dementia.

The saddest thing about dementia is that diagnosing which dementia it is doesn’t get you much of anywhere. The treatments may (and they do mean only may) minorly help with symptoms but none stop the progression of it. Both of my very beloved in-laws died of it after 20 long agonizing years. So far 2 of their 7 kids have developed it.

Good luck with finding doctors for them. Besides the hearing issues are there other maladies you have to deal with?

At least you got your laundry done and got to cuddle grandbabbies~you’re ahead of me today. I did get put together two little wheeled three tray carts. One for next to the loveseat where I live during my waking hours (place for my coffee mug, ipad, forbidden snacks, phone, chargers, books, pens, etc) and another one to be my bedside table/nightstand for my CPAP (which theoretically I am getting tomorrow), lamp, sound machine, books, eye mask, chapstick, clock, phone, iPad, hearing aid case and all the sundry cords powering those things. The CPAP machine and all the attachments will take up two of the 3 trays. The loveseat one will have a tray devoted to popcorn, caramels and dark chocolate caramels-a girl has got to live after all.
