Pass The Turkey, Eh? A (Canadian)Thanksgiving MMP

AKA Bakers cheese because it is nice and melty. I was planning on looking it up because I thought I knew something about cheeses and hadn’t heard that name before.

I liked it too, hopefully I will remember to steal it when appropriate.

Oh man. Don’t fall asleep driving your mom to chemo.

Priorities are very important.

Our housekeeper was super happy today, she won 10,000 on the slot machines while she was on her cruise. Of course we were both happy for her and both said OUCH when she said the IRS took 3,500 already. Of course she will get most of that back, but it still seems pretty rude.

I did my dispensary order online and when I went to pick it up, the nice budista recommended a couple of other choices which also had what I was looking for and ended up saving 40 dollars on my order, so I tipped her twenty. The first variety does what I want but WOW, the cottonmouth is horrible. The second one also did what I wanted but didn’t taste as nice. I am extremely special, doncha know?

Tonight was our first general meeting of the local quilt guild. We went to the meeting last month but it was all people sewing, working on finishing quilts that will be given to various charities. We sat at a table and worked with a couple of ladies that were hand sewing the binding around the edges of a quilt.

Tonight was a general meeting with reports from committee chairs and announcements and then a guest speaker. We got there just as the meeting was getting started and the only available seats were in the first row.

The president of the guild called out to get the meeting started by saying: Good evening ladies…and gentleman." She had noticed me sitting quietly and watching.

I have broken a gender barrier. I am the only male member of the Omaha Quilt Guild. I verified this by leafing through the membership roster.

I had a good time at the meeting and the guest speaker, a well known designer, Aby Dolinger was very interesting.

I briefly spoke to the president after the meeting and she told me I was the first male member in over a decade.

Going to the funeral yesterday was absolutely the right thing to do. Totally worth all of the driving (and even banging the hell out of my shin on a wooden bedframe in the middle of the night…#$$%^%). I have three first cousins (siblings) who all live near each other: cousin #1’s SO is the one whose mom died, and they’ve been together since high school so I’ve known her for 35+ years. I was the first one outside of her immediate family to get to the funeral home, and I wasn’t entirely sure how she’d react but she was so happy to see me/that I was there. So was everyone. It wound up being a really good family day, in that weird way funerals can be.

And, something completely unexpected happened: I was reminded what it’s like to have chemistry with a man I just met! It had been years, y’all…seriously, years. We chatted and clicked before I learned that he’s cousin #1’s (and cousin #3’s) boss — and friend. Which made me put the brakes on any serious flirting, but there were still some inadvertent eye contact moments during the viewing and the repast (at a nearby restaurant). By the time I left everyone had moved to the bar, where he was buying shots, and I got a hug and an inebriated declaration of “you’re beautiful inside and out and I’m so glad we met and I hope you come back soon!” Him being my cousins’ boss means there’s now a good chance that I’ll see him whenever I’m up there again, but it could also make anything casual pretty awkward. If nothing else, it was a terrific ego boost (dude was handsome!) and a much-needed reminder of why I should start dating again!

OMG! :frowning:

Ok…so…IF you wind up in DC and IF you wind up having some spare time after the meeting and IF you wind up having the energy to have a coffee/drink with a Mumper (and IF if if), please send me a PM.

:people_hugging:!

Way to break that quilted ceiling!

Evening all. Soccer has been practiced and dishes put away, so that was enough constructive behavior for the day. Will be heading off to bed here shortly, we have a chance for rain tomorrow, if it doesn’t show the sprinklers get deployed on Thorsday.

Got an e-mail from AT&T saying my bill (it’s a Direct Deposit) was late and to contact them, I almost clicked on it but the e-mail code (if I hold the cursor on the link it shows the details to me) looked suspicious and some goggling showed it’s a fairly common scam. So into the trash it went. Nice that my three brain cells rubbed together.

Oopsie, it’s probably inappropriate, but I’m glad you had a good time at the funeral, and by all means, keep the interest there; does he have a Facebook page, I wonder…

hippie, congrats on breaking barriers.

JtC, good for your housekeeper; ended up about $400 ahead in Blackjack on my cruise, while I doubt we’ll put the cruise lines out of business, it’s still a nice feeling.

talkie, enjoy DC; should be very pleasant this time of year.

nellie, Ouch!!! on the medical bill; hope they have some insurance coverage to help.

Sari, one good thing is Sah-son seems to be taking on more responsibility, perhaps working at that job is helping his independence.

Hmmmmmm…

That’s all I have energy for, so for those I missed, yeas, boos, cheers, tears, and hugs in any appropriate amount. catch all y’all on Hump Day.

My sister-in-law is diabetic. I got curious as to whether that might be a factor in the rapid bone loss she’s experienced, and it almost certainly is. Since the docs say she needs the bone surgery even if she decided to gum her way through life, I’m hoping Medicare might help. $50k is insane. I have no idea how it could cost that much. I passed the info along, and they’re grateful, but why haven’t dentists mentioned this possibility? Surely they know how diabetes affects gums and the alveolar (tooth socket) bone.

oopsie, what a wonderful ego boost! And hey, for a every guy saying it, you kow there are 10 others thinking it.

My sentiments exactly!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 68 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 84 with rain predicted this afternoon and evenin’. I shall believe that when I see it, however. This mornin’ we shall procure provisions and then spend the rest of the day in sloth, idleness, nappage, and general overall uselessness. Except, at some point, very possibly in the late N.O.L./early sup time of day we shall go to Sonny’s. Sonny’s has brought back its sammich/one side/drink combo special for a couple of weeks. So we are savin’ yestiddy’s leftovers for tomorrow.

Oopsie glad goin’ to the funeral turned out to be a good idea. As to the flirtation, well, ain’t nuttin’ wrong with that! Checkin’ to see if he has a book of faces page is not a bad idea.

shoe I third the hmmmmmm… on the twenty dollar tips from one man. Again, maybe he is bein’ flirtatious, or maybe not. Still, the money’s nice.

JtC yay for your housekeeper! I imagine she was pretty stoked.

hippie go you! Glad you enjoyed hangin’ with the quilters.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, and oh so much bother, I suppose I must needs purtify and don attire appropriate for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Life can be so hard!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Both have macular degeneration, tho his isn’t as bad as hers. Both have pacemakers and I think both are on blood thinners. She has thyroid problems, but she decided to stop taking the meds because last time she had a blood test, her numbers were good (Um, because of the meds???) Honestly, I’m thinking she may be starting with dementia also. Bottom line, they’re both a mess, which shouldn’t be surprising at early-90s.

 Good one!!

I suspect they rake in MUCH more than they pay out, or they’d toss the slots overboard! On one cruise, we each took $20 into the casino and left with nothing. And it wasn’t like it was fun - for me, gambling is just boring. YMMV.

The shirt I grabbed this morning is one I laundered at MIL’s before we left FL. I can tell because it reeks of whatever scent Arm & Hammer loads in their detergent. OMG!!! I buy unscented, and I’d forgotten how overpowering the scented crap can be. I may have to change this shirt so I can launder it again. UGH!

SIL will be hanging out a bit this morning - he has a Dr appt at 9:15 and it’ll save him driving by waiting here rather than going home then driving back this way again. So I’m going to put him to work!! There’s no space for the hammer dulcimer at the apartment - we’ll store it in the guest bedroom till we figure out what to do with it. It’s a fairly heavy piece, but SIL is young and strong. We’ve also got to store FIL’s keyboard - he’ll never play it (he never really could) and my daughter would like to have it. I think it’ll go in the basement. Plus there are a few things in the truck bed that need to come out before tomorrow’s rain. I’m a relentless taskmaster!

Not sure what else will happen today. I want to figure out some freezable meals that I can make and send to MIL. The easy ones are sketty sauce, pulled poke, meatloaf, and shepherd’s pie. Other ideas? They don’t like spicy, so chili and such is out. What can I do with chicken? Pot pie? Chicken and dumplings? Chicken and rice? Does tuna noodle casserole freeze?

I see some cookage in my future.

Happy Wednesday!!

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 45 degrees with an expected high of 69 and mostly sunny skies. No rain, dang it.

Oopsie, I’m glad going to the funeral generated such a positive response from family members and that you met someone who made you feel good about yourself.

Today the long-awaited ottoman is supposed to arrive sometime between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm. I was going to run the vacuum yesterday, but never did, so I shall do it around 8:00 am while between meetings. I’d do it earlier, but I am not completely cruel.

I have managed to catch some crud from one of the grandkids. I knew I was fighting a cold on Monday evening but thought it would be gone by yesterday. Unfortunately, that was not the case. By about 9:00 am yesterday I was pretty miserable and felt like I was underwater. I had no energy and the stuffy, yet drippy nose didn’t help. Today one of my ears hurts a little and my sinuses are not having fun. I’ve taken a dose of Dayquil to help with the symptoms and it’s starting to kick in a little. I’ve been super lucky these last few years and have managed to fight off colds, this one is pretty strong. It was bound to happen, but damn I hate having one. I took Nyquil to help me sleep last night and it worked for the most part, although I woke up several times. I don’t have a fever or anything, so at least I know it’s just a common, garden-variety cold.

hippie, I’m glad you enjoyed your meeting.

All my projected use or lose leave through the end of the year was approved, so I have it all on the calendar now. I still haven’t heard anything regarding the interview. It could be they are trying to reach references or it could be I just didn’t get the job. I tend to think it’s the second thing, but until I know for sure, I hold on to a tiny sliver of hope while gearing up to find a different job. I’m not going to jump at the first thing, but I will move on as soon as I can.

FCM, how about stew or pot roast and vegetables for the in-laws?

Well, I suppose I’ll finish my coffee and then finish the coffee. I hope you all have a great day!

I think veggie-beef soup will work. MIL doesn’t think you should freeze potatoes, but if I do pot roast, I can just take leftovers unfrozen.

Turns out SIL canceled his Dr appt, but he did move the hammer dulcimer for me. I made up the guest room and put things back to normal in that room. Slowly but surely…

Meanwhile, Tobias and I are having basement time.

Morning all. Thought I slept in until 7:30, but I read the clock wrong—it was 8:30am when I got up, been awhile since I had that long a sleep. Head over to the gym in a couple hours and see if the pool heater is working. No kid’s soccer this evening so maybe get a few chores around the house done. 71F heading to 75F, so both my electric and gas bill will be much nicer this month.

Taters, kids and crud seem to go together. Surprised FCM does as well as she does without too much illness. Take care and enjoy the use or lose.

OK, need to get some instant breakfast here soon and be on with the day. All y’all take care.

Ahhh… understood now. Being efficient/nice/capable comes with its own downsides. Have watched my Missus ever since she started as a teller, and customers quickly learned she could handle and solve their issues with a smile. And she was rewarded with long lines in front of her, while coworkers had long since gone home or to lunch. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn’t.

As to MMP-ing stuff: Low 80s this morning for my late arrival here, s’posed to hit low 90s later. Up, coffee’d, breakfasted, and have finished dog walks. The dog is quite happy, having checked all his email and left appropriate replies all along the path. Not much planned, other than laying around and watching TV. It’s Wednesday and I’ve run out of chores – a mark of successful retirement I wager. In a few days I’ll head out to visit/help some housebound relatives, then we’re planning a 4 or 5 day camping trip, with droning, fishing, and barbecuing as the main elements. Only negative in the mix is mizPullin’s reaction to the plague shots. But that’s only for a few days, during which I will play step-n-fetch it and ensure meals and backrubs are available on request.

Yikes! Certainly not a crew that should be messing around with feeding their meds to the carpet. It’s amazing that you and FCD could talk them into moving to Maryland~at least you won’t have to be doing those soul-sucking mad dashes to Florida anymore.

I think tuna casserole freezes just fine. Would lasagna be a good dish to have in the rotation? Macaroni and cheese?

Gave me a good snicker to start my morning🤣 thanks!

I believe you mean pee-mail.

Yeah, I can do lasagna. She asked me the other day about boxed mac-n-cheese - she’s going to try her first box of Kraft after years of making it from scratch!

Just got the kid down to nap after a very messy lunch followed by a bath of sorts (no actual washing - just playing in warm water to rinse the sticky off.) So glad he’s sleeping for a bit. I have stuff to do. I assembled the spinning wheel, but I’m not positive it’s exactly right. The only photo I have if it was really blurry. I looked up images of spinning wheels, but there are so many variations. I’m going to post a couple of pics and see if anyone on the Dope would know.

FCD is having a terrible time remembering his parents’ new address. He’s given out 21059 and 20195. The actual address is 21095. His poor brain is so muddled… I had to go into his brother’s insurance policy and correct the address so he could use it as ID for a new license. Apparently just a lease isn’t enough. Because he could be a terrorist, I guess. It’s insane.

OK, off to start a new thread about the spinning wheel.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 13c/55f with no predicted change, and rain showers today. Weather app says “Every day should be a fucking party but today, it should be an inside fucking party”. I’d agree with that, it’s wet and miserable out there, I know ‘cos I’ve been out in it. On the plus side, I have been over to my friends’ house and played with ferrets.

The Problem Child left us alone for most of yesterday, she might have tried calling but I told the guys in the office to leave that particular phone to ring. I’d already told everyone in the dept that the phone wouldn’t be answered and they had my office number if they needed anything…yesterday was focused on finishing off postgraduate business in time for a scrutiny meeting today, and the administrator was still off sick so I was filling in for her.

Today, PC decided to phone bright and early. Most people know it’s not good to cause problems when I’ve only just arrived in the office and haven’t had my first cup of tea…PC started off by telling me I had to add her to our virtual learning environment because she’s registered as a student. I asked her if she’d read the email sent to her by the programme lead. She told me again that I had to add her to Canvas. I asked her if she had read the email and understood the contents. She wasn’t budging, and honestly if you want something, telling me I have to do it is really not the way to go about getting what you want.

She refused to confirm her location, she refused to tell me if she was in the UK, she refused to provide a phone number so that we could call her back. I told her we would be more than happy to add her to what she wanted, all she needed to do was pop into our office on campus with her ID card. Strangely enough, she hung up after that.

The ninja spiders are sharpening their pointy sticks and packing.

Congrats!

If only you were into banjo instead of jazz singing. But glad you got the ego boost.

So the morning stuff didn’t post. FUBAR day, but that’s what I get paid for. Gonna take a nap, then go to the hockey game. Been a while since I’ve gone.

Hurray and good for you. I always like seeing men at stitching things, thread doesn’t see gender or skin color.

Good for you too, I’m sure the cruise lines are safe, money falling from the sky is always a good feeling. They took a picture of her with one of those big fake checks that she is going to hang on her wall along with the picture of the real 10 grand check before they took the taxes out. I’m really happy for her, it was fun seeing her all smiles and stuff.

She’s right, ya know.

I’m posting early because today was surplus produce, pick up is at 9. I won’t be having lunch with BFF because the pharmacies out this way are completely closing down for long lunches and I couldn’t schedule a shot appointment around lunch with her. Flu shots are walk in, but the plague booster needs an appointment.

Today we got a bag of peaches that look like they came off someone’s tree and I know that they are the last ones we will get this year unless we want to buy grocery store hot house peaches (blech). I’ll figure out what to do with them this afternoon, I want to do something a little special, like ice cream maybe.

GG has been a total PITA since I got home, I think I’m going to have to get out the feather on a stick toy and play him down for a while.

Tobias has been napping for about 90 minutes, with a couple of interruptions to cough - poor thing is congested, but there’s nothing you can give the little ones. There’s no such thing as Babby Mucinex…

Hope I can give them back to their mom early today.

I had many witty replies to all y’all yesterday after work, but … crashed. Consider yourselves wittily retorted to. (Ugh, bad grammar. My apologies to Ms. Mendina and Mrs. Holbert; y’all taught me better, but I’m in a hurry.)

Got to spend a few minutes earlier outside in lovely - to me - weather (overcast, just enough wind to make the big oaks toss their branches around) while enjoying today’s autumn leaf extravaganza, which - if you watch - changes every day.

I have made a peanut butter (and marshmallow) sandwich for work and will be locating pants shortly. My rainbow window lights are on to welcome me home.

May you all be as happy as Monkey watching Charm, fascinated by his own personal Snek TV. ™
