Pass The Turkey, Eh? A (Canadian)Thanksgiving MMP

I spent most of this morning talking with one of my sisters. I’m going to the gym and the drugstore and will repot my Crispy Wave plant. It’s in a pretty ceramic pot right now, but the pot seems to have a leak. Such excitement. Oh, and it’s watering day for some of my flora friends.

Whoops. Must’ve jinxed myself. Just got a call from a surgeon. The surgery I thought was off is apparently back on. (It’s not the eye surgery. That hasn’t been approved yet.) I’m scheduled for Halloween. It’s fairly minor, but it’s in Seattle, and I’ll need to find a friend to drive me to and fro. It’s a big ask, so not sure what I’ll do there. And I now have a pre-op appointment for the 21st, so I have to get up there for that. Also, I don’t have loads of confidence in this guy. Blech. I liked child-ing a lot better than I do adulting.

FCM, I hope Tobias gets over the crud soon and that you don’t get it. Does someone in the family still play the hammer dulcimer? It’s such beautiful music.

BooFae, PC is starting to sound like a character in a Stephen King novel. I hope she gives up soon.

Buddy has decided that laundry baskets of clean clothes are a great kitty nest. Allie’s less than thrilled, since that’s one of her favorite spots.

Would be nice if I woke up and got some motivation going for things like PT homework and job applications.

Today the really nice pharmacist told me that I was too young for the high dosage flu shot. Go me!

I got my flu and covid jabs in the same arm because I’m a side sleeper and I didn’t want both arms sore. I’m thinking that is it for this year cause I’m really not concerned about catching monkeypox.

And of course Buddy had to bug his sister. Allie wanted to patrol the walk-in closet in the bedroom, so I opened the door for her. Buddy hopped out of the laundry basket and followed her. He did retreat a little once Allie started hissing at him, but not so far that he didn’t have her blocked in. Thankfully, he doesn’t have much of an attention span, so he’s now out here in the living room with me. She’s taken advantage of the opportunity to get out, and is now under the bed sulking.

No one plays, and it’s now woefully out of tune. FIL built it because he wanted to build it. If it remains here, I may figure out how to tune it and play it. It is a beautiful instrument.

No playground today - SIL only packed shorts for Tobias, and no jacket, and with his snotty cold, I thought he needed to be wearing more than a onesie, so I picked up Roxy and took them to their house. While Roxy watched Cars, I attacked the basket of clean laundry that SIL couldn’t be bothered to fold. So, good deed for the day.

I’m now eating some chicken that was marinated in Italian dressing and some green beans that were cooked with onion salt. Boring, but easy. FCD didn’t want to eat, so I kept it simple and quick for me.

We’re promised rain tonight and tomorrow - I put the truck bed cover back on so the boxes in there for recycling don’t get soaked. Not sure when I’ll get to the convenience center - maybe FIrday?? Not tonight, tho. Chillage is on tap.

Howdy Y’all! We procured provisions and then took care of all our sloth duties. We went to Sonny’s just after four o’clock, so we are now in da cave waitin’ on the rain, which may be startin’ as I post. I think I hear rain pingin’ on the awnin’ over the back porch.

MOOOOOOM freezable meals for the in-laws is a great idea. IMO tuna noodle casserole belongs in Satan’s kitchen from whence it emanated. ICK!

Congrats on breaking the gender barrier hippy!

nellie, my sis is doing the dental bone grafts right now. It’s a good thing that her medical insurance covers it since she’s a retired teacher with minimal dental insurance.

Mooooom, IME, anything with the pasta (potatoes too, for that matter) already incorporated in it tends to suffer texture-wise in the freezer. One of the things that I’ve found that does freeze well is eggplant or zucchini lasagne (thinly sliced veg instead of noodles). It’s also diabetic friendly. I envy you the hammered dulcimer. I haven’t played one in a few years, but love it.

When I got home, there were small dog warnings. That turned to tornado watch, then a tornado warning shortly thereafter. Right now, it’s raining with high winds. We need the rain, but I hope that the wind dies down soon. Are you getting this too metal mouse?

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Does anyone do sous vide cooking? I’m starting to think about Christmas presents, and this looks like a good fit for a couple people. My concerns are

  1. Do you need a separate appliance to vacuum seal?
  2. Do foods have to be browned afterward?
  3. Is it convenient, or is it one of those appliances that never gets used once the novelty wears off?

red, hope the funnel cloud stays far away from you. If you look out the window and see a chicken coop or Miss Gulch whirling by, put on those ruby slippers and take cover!

Today there were a hundred different issues at work that needed to be tracked and/or tracked down, and I felt constantly pulled in multiple directions. A little of that is normal and to be expected, but this was an exceptionally pull-y day! It was tiring. On top of which, I stayed up a little later than usual last night watching the Yankees win game #1 of their series (woo hoo!!!). I’m hoping for an early-ish bedtime and a restful sleep tonight, because tomorrow Bailey has an afternoon PT session and then a friend and I are going downtown for some live music. :notes:

I have been craving butter lately! For a week or so I’ve been eating a lot of frozen corn (with a light butter sauce, in those steam-in bags), and last night and at lunch I wanted – and ate – two small pieces of wheat bread with some butter. Like a butter sandwich. In fact, I could see having another butter sandwich this evening. For the time being I’m just going with it, because my lab results show that I can tolerate some extra butter, but it’s a weird thing to be craving…isn’t it?

I was way ahead of you guys: I sent him a friend request right after I posted yesterday! He only has 38 FB friends, and now I’m one of 'em (and cousin #1, cousin #3, and their SOs/wives are four of the others). He hardly ever posts, and likely isn’t on FB much at all; I know that my male cousins aren’t. But now there’s a very fine thread between us, just in case we’re both still single – and he’s around – the next time I go up there.

 Thanks, both of you!

I know you meant because of the wind, but I am having WAY too much fun imagining that not only might it literally rain cats and dogs, but the deluge would start with small dogs (and the appropriate warnings)…

I do. I already had a vacuum-sealing gizmo. And I didn’t do anything else after the meat was done. While the meats we’ve had prepared sous vide were really good, it takes planning because it takes longer to cook. That’s why I don’t use it as often as I’d like.

Tahred… early bedtime tonight, methinks…

I now have a very industrious spider living in my kitchen window. I got up this morning, and it looked like I hadn’t washed dishes in months, cobwebs all over the dish soap, garage door opener remote (it lives on the windowsill), etc. Saw the little bugger and tried to catch him, but he slipped into the window frame. Cleaned up the webs and off to work. 8 hours later, and a new web all over the place. Dude, I’ll work with you, but I use that stuff every day.

nellie Someone who posts in “What’s for dinner tonight” sous vides. I wanna say kayaker, but I’m not sure. But, my understanding is

  1. not needed, but helpful.
  2. again, not needed, but it makes the stuff taste better, maillard reaction, etc.
  3. I think that depends on ones personality. Kinda like I hopped in on the instant pot hard for a couple months, now use it once in a while.

FCM I’ve found that lasagne does pretty good freezing, if you don’t bake it first.

red I, too like the small dog warnings image. Yap! Yap! Yap!

Stay safe, y’all!

I figure if I have a craving for a specific food, there’s something in it my body knows it needs, so I should take the hint (in reasonable quantity).

Trying to do my PT stuff, a large percentage of which involves being horizontal, is SO entertaining with two “helpful” cats taking turns investigating matters. Didn’t appreciate the Buddy claw marks on my yoga mat, either.

Re the small dog warnings: a Mumper (I think it was nellie ) used that once to denote winds high enough to make Nelson airborne. I liked it, so I stole it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Happy Hump Day!

My son called me at 12:42 to tell me irk was over.
We got home, I went to bed and slept until 8. I really needed it.
Then we took the dogs to daycare. Ripple didn’t want to get out of the truck unless I took him out. Then he trotted off happily with my son. I don’t know what is up with him sometimes.

It was quiet at the park this morning I heard.

I finally talked to Niece1 yesterday about Athene, the company none of us have heard from. Turns out, I am not the only one who called. They won’t tell anybody anything other than there is an account, and insist they have to talk to the Trustee, even though it isn’t part of the trust. But they won’t talk to NIece1, who is the trustee. She said she sent in the paper irk, and they still won’t talk to her.
She is going to call the lawyer today.
I think it may be that the beneficiary of the account is the Trust.

Then the bank is giving her a hard time. They say they need paperirk (a copy of the entire trust) that she doesn’t have for them. The lawyer says she has everything (1 page of the trust) she needs to give them.
They are finally getting the flue fixed this Friday. My friend said it should be $400, I figured $800 since the armpit is more expensive. It’s $1200, not as much as had been originally feared.
I told NIece1 about the bullshit with the certified letter. She said everybody was like wth? It’s something we all know. Niece2 never even got hers because she wasn’t home to sign, and then it wasn’t at the PO. My sister told her what was in the letter and not to worry about it.
Then I thought, maybe they sent it certified to verify the address?

If I were the trustee, I think I’d be going crazy by now.

Lucy dad just texted me. A bunch of kids stopped him at the park gate and demanded $20 or they were going to call the police and say his dog bit them. He said you’ll look stupid without a bite mark on you.
If Lucy bites you there will be a mark, she is mostly Great Pyrenees and Staffordshire Terrier, with a little Aussie Cattle Dog and Chihuahua thrown in. She weighs over 100 pounds, if she bites you, it’s going to show.
She’s a sweetie though, unless you are a squirrel.
He said the kids looked to be 10-12.

I have to agree with Swampy on tuna-noodle casserole. My mother loved the stuff, ugh, just the smell was enough to make me queasy.

Evening all. Kinda a back-assward day, watched Champions League soccer (with occasion switches to Blue Bloods) from 12-4pm, snacked on White Castles at 2pm, then went to the gym for swimming and sauna around 5pm and got home around 6:45. Took out a couple of those toaster-sized ham-n-cheese sammiches, 30 seconds in the microwave and 3 minutes in the toaster…and I had moderately edible eats for dinner. Rain started this morning, disappeared until 6pm, and has been on-and-off since then, supposed to stop around 9pm.

Aaannnnddd…that’s about it. Did do my Sudoku’s and Jumbles and got 95% of the crossword puzzle solved, so at least my brain is still active.

Sari, don’t like the sound of what happened to Lucy’s dad. It may get worse, hopefully the cops will come around occasionally to check things. But…

That is a rather…astounding…mix of breeds there…

VanGo, you are a much nicer person than I. A spider taking up residence in a place like that will get the “RAT SMASH” treatment.

Red, we got rain and a little thunder and lightning, but no severe weather down here. Be safe now.

Nettie, Buddy does provide lots of entertainment (as long as Allie doesn;t kill him…).

nellie, wish I was close enough to help you travel. Is Amtrak a possibility (know you used them before)?

Boo Fae, sure sounds like some type of scam is getting run (or trying too), Keep your bosses in the loop and prepare to deploy.

OK, I’m tired and still have some more internettin’ to do before readin’ and the inevitable bed-time. Take care all.

@Reedyg Here is the thread I invited you to visit for a proper welcome. Folks, I found Reedyg’s first post in an old Dinsdale thread and thought I should bring him here so he could meet some nice folks.

What do the police do when they are called on the little extortionists? Also, what kind of parents raise kids to do that sort of thing. Grrrr.

I forgot to tell you all about the nice score I made at the thrift store. I bought 5 kid sized jackets, a sparkly little red sweater and a nice coat that would fit someone shoe’s size for less than twenty bucks. Everything is in very good shape, I even checked the pockets for holes and couldn’t find any.

The really nice thing about buying things for strangers is that I don’t have to worry if Susie likes red or if the jean jacket will fit Sam, someone will want them. (For those who forgot, our community is having a winter clothing drive and I don’t have any children’s outgrown jackets to donate.)

True lurve will find a way. Says the woman who had sex during a tour of the Bowfin.

I’m craving cabbage. Like stir-fried cabbage (with Korean-style short ribs), or cabbage soup.

I also want fish soup.

But we have leftover chicken cordon bleu, sliced roast beef, fried chicken, and even some taco meat in the fridge.

You had sex on a fish? If I make soup, I’ll have to double-check the ingredients.

Jeebus. Yeah, number one, the very first thing the grown-ups are gonna say is, “Show me the wound.”

Secondly, y’all do know what happens to dogs who actually ferrealz bite kids, right?

Grrr. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: Ha! Literally.

But still, those kids just … nah, the end of that sentence goes in the Pit.

That, and I’m already crabby with humanity in general - attempts to find a replacement Gentleman Caller have been a layer cake of failures. Considering how often people compliment my physical appearance, you’d think this wouldn’t be so … { snerk } I almost said “hard.”

On top of which, a newbie at work is The Most Annoying Ever (intrusive personal questions, nonstop yammering, lazy, does his own tasks -barely - but god forbid he help out a teammate) and he’s managed to completely get under my skin. This shit keeps up and I’ll be the one getting fussed at (your sweet shoe has a helluva sailor mouth when irritated) and “but he started it!” while true, doesn’t fly very far.

I got out early and have time & (irritable) energy to burn. There is a very good chance that Drunk Shoe may do some anger-dishes. I got a skillet that needs scrubbin’ and no idea what else to do with this crabbiness.

Don’t you know what fish do in the water?

I don’t think they usually get violent as long as Buddy’s smart enough to back off when Allie gets snarly. I’ve never seen actual injuries on either that I could attribute to the other (Buddy still insists on some night roaming, so it would be tricky to pin down the cause of a new wound, no wounds noted on Allie).

She usually just prefers to avoid his company, unless a sleeping human seems to require two cats’ worth of assistance. Then she’ll curl up on the bed even if he’s there already. More than once, I’ve awakened to find the cats within inches of each other helping me sleep.
