Pass The Turkey, Eh? A (Canadian)Thanksgiving MMP

I just looked up a recipe for Bergen fish soup. I think it would be easier to just go to Norway.

It was me…I…whatever! It was a common expression in windy Wyoming. In case I didn’t tell this before, here’s my favorite example. One day at the end of lunch, I saw one of my students in the class after lunch running toward the door. I yelled, “Where are you going?” She yelled back, “To get my dog inside! It’s starting to rain!” I rolled my eyes. 20 minutes later, she walked into class with an Administrator-approved late pass. A few days earlier, the wind had blown her small dog off the porch, which broke his little leg. :frowning: He got a cast on it that couldn’t get wet. That day was sunny, so she left him in the yard when she left for school. Then it started raining, so she had to dash home to get him inside so his cast didn’t get wet. The secretaries thought that was the best excuse ever, so they gave her a pass. I couldn’t disagree.

Sari, what a tangled mess! I hope the attorney can straighten it out . As for the kids, how horrible!

It is, but I’ll have to have someone with me. With the train schedule, we’ll probably have to go down the night before and stay at a hotel–again, a big ask. But thanks for the suggestion !

I’ve never heard of such things. What a great idea , though !

Poor little dog, I shouldn’t have laughed.

I’m having a bit of a dilemma I’d like you guys thoughts on. As you all know, I am given too much perishable food to use so I drive it to my ex-office to give it to everyone in the office. I also pick up a box for my BFF (who lives within 10 minutes of my home) and take it to the ex-office so she can take what she wants and give the rest to her fellow workers.

Today I have learned that all of the food I bring in along with all of my BFF’s leftovers are being taken to a woman I have never met who used to work in a different department because she is on unpaid leave due to the loss of her son.

I have much sympathy for anyone who loses a child or spouse or parent or even their beloved pet, grief sucks. I also understand that once I have given something away, it is no longer mine and I have no say in what happens to it anymore.

I have said all that to say that now that the food is going to a stranger, I don’t really want to spend my gas driving 90 miles to deliver it when I could hand it out to folks in my community who aren’t able to pick up their own boxes. I’m really considering telling my BFF that her husband who drives right by our home to get to their home should start picking up their box and I’ll deal with mine myself because gas is so expensive.

What say you guys? Do you think I’m just being a bitch because I got my shots today and did some day drinking, or do I have a point?

You have a point. Ninety miles is a lot of gas. Since your BFF’s husband drives right by your house, he should absolutely pick up their box, no question. I feel so sorry for the woman whose son died. We have terrible bereavement leave in this country. However, you surely have people in your community with stories just as sad and desperate. The bereaved woman will still get the stuff BFF doesn’t want in that box, right?

Anyway you slice or dice it, you’re still a good person.

for some reason I’ve seen a few pit bull and chihuahua usually mixes the pit is the mom but there’s a couple out there where the mom was the chi and the pup’s head was as big as the body…

i don’t know jane I’m the type that if someone offers me something that I cant use il take it until I find someone who can or needs it …

I do feel badly for the poor lady. I have heard the whole story and it is very sad. The family on the end of our block’s bread-earner just had his leg amputated after being hit by an uninsured driver, I’m fairly sure they could also use the food. (Hubs paid to have their propane tank filled because winter is coming, but that was kinda pricy and not something we can do every three months.) *

I was taking my leftover food to the ex-office because it was too much food for just one family our size, it is possible that it is another burden for the lady because she will end up throwing much of it out and nobody likes throwing food away.

One hopes the poor little lady survived the experience!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. [quote=“The_Stainless_Steel_Rat, post:115, topic:972997”]
That is a rather…astounding…mix of breeds there…

Chihuahua/Grand Pyrenees?

  1. A trebuchet was involved
  2. Hope the GP was the female, otherwise the whole thing would have looked like a scene out of Alien

You hired my ex coworker Flip The Slacker King?

Morning, mumpers! It’s 10c/49f with a predicted high of 14c/58f and partly cloudy. That also means it’s partly sunny! Weather app says “For fuck’s sake, what’s up with the clouds?” I think up, is what’s up with them.

In that situation, I would be sorely tempted to act all scandalised and immediately insist on calling for both the police and an ambulance. After all, a dog bite surely requires medical attention? Sadly that would incur a bill for the parents but if they raise their kids to be little extortionists, I would be pretty short on sympathy.

nellie love the idea of small dog warnings! And that was such a great story, that kid definitely deserved a late pass for it

Sadly I don’t have an update on PC today, I’m not on campus until next week but the plan at the moment is that if she turns up at the office and presents her ID card, we will add her to stuff. If she isn’t in class on Monday morning, she is getting booted from the programme.

Busy day today, I have lots to get through but little motivation. I have some tricky exam-related bits to sort out so I should just get on and do it. Maybe I’ll start a load of laundry instead, and make a cup of tea

Easy - dogs is weird!

I like it - always have. But I don’t use cream-of-mushroom as the base. Instead, I over-cook cauliflower, then run it thru the blender with a little milk and butter, and I add the tuna, noodles, peas, and whatever to that. It was a variation I learned in my very early Weight Watchers days and I find I like it better. In fact, I now have a hankerin’ for some…

The rain has begun here and if accuweather is to be believed, it’s going to rain on and off into the evening. I’ve already arranged with Daughter that after I pick up Roxy, we’re going to the library, and I’ll hand over the kids there. It’s going to be too wet and cool for the playground. Then I’ll swing by Food Lion for some ingredients so I can start massive cookage this weekend.

Tomorrow, I need to have fasting blood drawn - I plan to be waiting there by 7 (they open at 7:30 and it’s first-come…) Then next Firday, it’s my semi-annual Dr appt to make sure my meds are all good. Afterwards, I have an appt with the dermatologist to get a once-over - I’m a tad paranoid since the carcinoma removal. Yep, the excitement never ends at FairyChatEstates!

Happy Thursday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 64 Amurrkin out and foggy with some rain predicted this mornin’ (should be here any time) and a high of 84 and mostly cloudy for the day. Sounds like a good day to be in da cave, so we shall sloth the day away. Sup shall be leftovers from Tuesday.

JtC if you know of someone who could use the food, then nuttin’ wrong with you makin’ sure your extras go to that person or persons. Since BFF’s hubs drives right by you place, nuttin’ wrong with askin’ that he stop and pick up her box. Matter of fact, that just makes more sense.

sari I’d be tempted to bite the little brats myself.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

The wife wants to try making a Dutch baby for breakfast today, so we’ll give it a try. And no, I’m not Dutch, and no, this isn’t about sex.

Good morning.

It’s currently 46 degrees with an expected high of 75 and sunny skies. Supposedly it’s supposed be drizzling right now, but I don’t see any moisture.

chefguy, when my kids were little they went to a daycare where dutch babies were often made. They were always excited about them and talked about how much they loved them.

To be honest, I’m not a fan of fish anything anymore. I’ll eat an occasional tuna sandwich, but it has to have sweet relish mixed in. Something about the smell of fish cooking just turns my stomach anymore. I wish I could get to like it again and I keep trying but constantly run into disappointment.

I feel like utter crap this morning. I did take a shower but didn’t mess with styling my hair. I’ll have to make sure I stay off-camera. My left ear feels like someone stabbed it, my throat hurts, my sinuses are full of snot, I have a headache, and just feel super out of it. I’m not running a fever though. I’ve taken some Dayquil in the hopes it will put some of these symptoms at bay because I have work to do and meetings to attend (via Teams). I’d like to just sleep, but I wasn’t sleeping well either, even though I took a big slug of Nyquil before I went to bed last night. I am hoping these cold symptoms go away soon, I hate feeling icky and I have stuff I need to do.

shoe, I hope the right replacement Gentlemen Caller shows up for you soon.

JtC, 90 miles is a lot of gas money. It seems someone closer to you could probably do with some of that stuff, and I agree, BFF’s husband could certainly stop by and pick up the box too.

sari, I was wondering when the kids would start with criminal activity, and it appears they have. Honestly, I’d say it’s just time to move on. These were littles, what happens when it’s 17-year-olds with weapons? And, someone needs to lock those brats up in jail for the day and see what happens when they are accosted by thugs. Little a*******!

I’ve started my second cup of coffee, so I guess I’ll cruise the web and read interesting stuff for awhile.

Wasn’t me! Promise!

Seriously; Good morning everyone. Up and working thru second cup. 54F outside, low 80s later. Same old same old.

Only plans for today are to get the lawn mowed, the laundry done, and go to the dentist. Not exactly my favorite things, but gotta be done. If I’d known how much of adulthood was just chores, I’d have just stayed a kid. Growing up is overrated (which would be a great MMP title, now that I think about it).

Morning all. Rain finally stopped last night sometime but the streets still show signs of it raining and soccer practice is to be determined. 61F heading to 72F today with no rain. May go to the gym early since more soccer is on the TV at noon and practice is at 5pm. We’ll see.

nellie, never had seen them before either, but then never had looked for them, more of an impulse buy. Here is their site, they are a bit pricey but i may pick another 1-2 up to sit in my freezer for days when fixing something doesn’t appeal to me (most days ending in Y or starting with S). Here’s their site: https://lilystoastergrills.com/

yanker, sounds like a busy day. For me, laundry is probably this weekend, lawn was mowed Sunday, and dentist is on for 5 January.

Hope you get to feeling better soon, Taters. And like you, I am not a fish fancier. Think I nibbled a tuna salad sammich once in my life and that was that.

JtC, I’m torn, your ex-co-workers and BFF are doing good with the stuff, but asking you to drive 90 miles and then give it away after you share with them…it is a puzzlement. Do what you feel is the right thing.

boo fae, I’d bet she doesn’t show, but keeps calling at least one week after things are done. Good luck.

OK, need to decide if exercise is going to be this morning or (maybe) later. Decisions, decisions…take care all.

I just found a week!!! I thought I needed to have blood drawn this week, but it’s not till next week. So huzzah for that!!

I’m trying to get Tobias down for a nap - he’s almost too big for his swing, but it’s the best way to get him to doze. Yesterday, he slept over 2 hours - what shall he do today? Stay tuned…

I’m making bean soup for supper - I’ll probably send half of it to the in-laws tomorrow. It’s still raining on and off. All in all, a boring day here today.

Congratulations, hippie!

Sadly I’ve learned I will not trip and fall into DC next week. I’m a bit bummed - I would’ve loved to see you, Misnomer. Turns out that someone in a higher salary bracket than I’m in asked to go last minute, so my seat is no longer mine. Which probably logistically works out better. No need to worry about me falling asleep on the way to mom’s chemo, Jane!

Got my eyeballs checked this morning. Apparently they haven’t changed since last year. I guess I’m just more tired, but I’ll take it! That’s a pair of glasses and lenses I don’t have to buy.

'Tis a bright & sunny day. I was up at 5 this morning and took a walk with my friend 'round the corner until about 6:30. I may need to take a 15-minute nap over lunch to stay alert enough to be useful for the rest of the day.

Abbey just ate a big piece of carpet from the cat tree she’s been shredding. Now I’m worried it will require a trip to the vet, unless she pukes it up like a hairball or craps it out. We’ll keep an eye on her. Right now she’s very frisky.

Went to yoga this morning, then my allergy shot. I have spent the last half hour trying to understand Medicare and my BCBS supplement. The allergist sez I owe a bit over $200 from June but they didn’t bill BCBS until today. So yes I owe them money cuz it’s my deductible. Le sigh. I need to run to the barn before I crash from the allergy shots.

“This must be Thursday. I could never get the hang of Thursday.” - Arthur Dent, The Hitchhiker’s Guide To the Galaxy

I had a massive leg cramp yesterday. So bad my leg was hurting today. SSLAW #2 was mostly down, SSLAW #1 kept giving out, and the dude doing the empty bags wasn’t cutting.it. And the Preload Manger apparently didn’t retire. He kept watching me, like he was displeased I was working. Dude I work, I don’t goof off on the clock, and dump stuff on myself like some people…

And I love fish. Well, not love fish, I’m not from Innsmouth or anything.

: insert crude joke about rug munching and Mr. Slocum :
Hope Abbey stays OK.

Feel better, [b]Taters{/b}!
