Pat Robertson wants to nuke the State Department

PAT ROBERTSON: I read your book. When you get though, you say, “If I could just get a nuclear device inside of Foggy Bottom, I think that’s the answer.” I mean you get through this, and you say, “We’ve got to blow that thing up.” I mean, is it as bad as you say?

Even if Mowbray talked about “gutting” the State Department vis a vis a thorough cleaning, it was Robertson who says, “Hey, when a person reads this, they - and presumably I - think, 'let’s nuke ‘em!’” It speaks to Robertson’s state of mind, IMHO. I don’t think there’s anything dishonest or taken out of context here.

I’ve got to agree with Esprix.

It’s kind of like how if someone said, “When you read Lolita, you can’t help but think, ‘Gee, I’d like to diddle an adolescent girl. That would be great.’ I mean, you just read it and you say ‘Little girls are prime diddling.’ Are they as doable as Nabokov makes out?”, you would hardly shrug it off when it was pointed out that the book makes no such assertion.

Can I absolve myself of my own wickedness this way? When I heard Peter Mansbridge reporting this incident, my first thought was that Pat Robertson ought to be put down like a mad dog. Of course, that’s not what Peter Mansbridge actually said, so I guess I wasn’t really wishing death on him. Ain’t this fun?
