:: Shrug :: I don’t think Pastis’s self-referential strips are excellent, I think they’re boring. To me, this one is just Ooh, look how dark and edgy I am! and This strip sure as hell ain’t Ziggy! (No shit.)
I think Pearls has moments of sheer brilliance, especially when focusing on the sweet naivete of Pig. (Pig to his own reflection in a pond, “You remind me of my other friend, Mr. Medicine Cabinet Guy.”) The ones where Pastis uses the strip to comment on the strip – those aren’t very interesting or funny to me.
You have issues with Captain Janeway, too, don’t you?
