How exactly was he trolling? He spoke out for what he believed.
Yeah, it was guaranteed to get a hostile reaction from a lot of people, but if he was sincere in his beliefs, it isn’t trolling, just being way, way, way outside the norms of the community.
I’m glad the SDMB allows outré views to be aired. I’m glad we have creationists, and even flat-earthers. Banning people solely for espousing really unpopular opinions is a poor way to run a debate forum.

That’s exactly right. There is nothing wrong with discussing the morality or legal aspect of a crime. It’s when you get into how to’s that there is a problem with the rules.
And quite frankly there is a practical reason why pot threads were dealt with swiftly, especially in the past. Someone finding the name in a search might think this board would have more in common with High Times than Cecil’s column.

Jonathan Chance appeared to be saying-it wasn’t a very coherent explanation–that Tangent’s post (this guy really wants to fuck kids) was at least part of the problem. Tangent certainly got a warning for it.
I don’t think you’ve been around long enough to know this board’s history of tolerating pedophiles. Again, not the kind who abhor their own sexual desires, but rather those who argue that kids are entirely fuckable.

You are comparing one thread that was closed with many people over the years who saw the name of the page and thought it was about how to get the best weed. Regardless talk of illegal activity is handled the same. How to commit crimes is not permitted. Moral and legal questions on the subject are. Each thread is judged on a case by case basis. There certainly have been many threads on whether marijuana should be legal. They are not closed.
