People whose names you like

I recently did some work for a New Jersey attorney with the unforgetable name of Elton John Bozanian.

And there’s always John Wayne Bobbitt.

My favorite names are always four-syllable given names followed by single-syllable family names. Thelonious Monk. Indiana Jones. Condoleeza Rice. Ebeneezer Scrooge.

For some reason these names sound very grown-up to me. I can’t imagine anyone with a name like these ever being a child, though I did see Indiana Jones as a Boy Scout in that one movie. These sound like the names of fun, exciting people–you know, like jazz pianists, or archeologist/adventurers, or, well, whoever those other people are.

These sound like some of the names I get in the “From” field of my daily dose of spam mails. Now I know where the spammers get them from!

Cool name of a guy I worked with:
Leif Storm

not so cool name of someone else I worked with:
Vessna Djockich

American Idol contestant Bo Bice.

Baseball players Ugueth Urtain Urbina, Rafael Betancourt, Wily Mo Pena, and Coco Crisp.

Yaphet Kotto

Bo Diddly

Rip Torn

I’m also a big fan of Engelbert Humperdink (name-wise).

My brother and step-sister both want to name their son Ansel; it’s a race to see who gets to use it first. I keep trying to convince them that it wouldn’t be the end of the world for cousins to share the same (cool) name, but to no avail.

I have a huge crush on one of my friends, in part because of his name: Laurence Alexander Green. Gaaa, so sexy!

Chijoke Onyenegecha, cornerback Oklahoma

I went to elementary school with a girl named Eulalia Iphigenia Zickefoose. I felt a bit sorry for Lally (as she preferred to be called). But at least she wasn’t likely to be mistaken for anyone else during roll-call.

I always rather liked sharpshooter Annie Oakley’s real name: Phoebe Ann Mozee.

Harry Alonzo Longabaugh - The Sundance Kid

My favourites are the last two presidents of Indonesia:

Megawati Sukarnoputri and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono

I spoke to someone today with the name Amanda Bonzo. Okay, maybe that’s not exactly what we’re looking for…

Other sports people:
Joaquin Hawkins (almost as cool as Joaquin Phoenix, a.k.a. “Walking Phoenix”)
Sterling Marlin
Another former Duke player: Trajan Langdon

Over the last few days at work, I’ve called all 100 United States Senators. I’ve decided the one with the best name is Maine’s Olympia Snowe. Snowe is a cool last name, and Olympia- well, you get the mountain theme in there, and it’s a stately name anyway, so you get this picturesque, very regal vibe.

Oh, I forgot one of my favorite NFL players - best name in the league by far if you ask me - Samari Rolle. And Boston College safety Jazzmen Williams. I guess his parents didn’t want him to be “Louis Coltrane Williams,” so they named him after jazzmen in general?

Ex-Colleague - *Kevin Ingledew * the dodgy first name is more than compensated for by the rurality of the family name.

2 rugby players who may or may not like their parents but their names are sooo cool …

Austin Healey of Leicester and England, he’s fast but not as fast as this !

Rémy Martin of Stade Français and France, tasty but not as tasty as this !

Here’s another one, not quite as good as Malachi J. Blade, but still pretty good. Another kid at school:

Zachariah X. Archie.

I like Alicia Silverstone. It sounds…twinkly like a star.

What??

oooh, I spent a couple of hours with her once. nice enough, a bit ditsy, but god forbid you pronounce her name “aleesha”. Very touchy about that.

Rush Limbaugh. Lousy person, great name.

:smack:
Oh, how do you pronounce it, then??? BTW, it’s so cool you got to hang out with her.
