Actually, I didn’t know that. I thought that maybe they were two different plants, or something (why not? There’s two different peppers). Learn something new every day.
YES! I loved that stuff, but I never knew anyone else who drank it.
Am I the only one who remembers a spice-flavored soda from years back? I think it was “7-Up Gold” or something like that. It was definitely one of the major brands and I think it had “gold” or “golden” in the name. I recall it as a spicy version of 7-Up, perhaps a gingerale blend with a hint of cinnamon. It could also have been RC cola or Diet Rite.
Anybody else remember this?
Yup, it was 7 Up Gold. Not bad, but not great.
JayElle, there’s been a couple of threads about Josta, and how much it’s been missed, so we’re not alone.
You can smell the difference if you open a can of Coke or open a can of Pepsi. The Coke smells like cinnamon. The Pepsi smells like lemon.
Okay, who thought this was going to be about a Spice Girls Christmas reunion?
Anybody?
Just me?
Dang.
Anybody remember Pepsi-Kona, or was that just test-marketed in my area?
I really liked 7-Up Gold. Or, at least, I remember really liking it.
You need to either find a soda fountain that still makes real vanilla Coke or learn to make it yourself. I love the commercial vanilla colas (and I prefer the diet versions to the sugar-sweetened ones), but the taste of an honest-to-God vanilla (or chocolate or cherry) Coke is just short of orgasmic.

In Hong Kong, you can buy “Fire Sprite” which is sprite with ginger. I personally thought it was off but it seemed to be selling decently over there.
I’ve had real cream sodas and hate them too despite loving vanilla, Robyn. They make me gag.
Now give me a real cherry Dr Pepper and I’m in heaven. Mmm.
Years ago, I think it was 1995, Mr. Rilch and I were in Brandywine, PA, where a coffee-flavored Pepsi was being test-marketed.
It. Was. Awesome. We bought as much as we could carry home, and eagerly waited for it to hit the nationwide market. Alas, it never did. And this was at the height of the coffee craze!
I’m not alone! The other day I was trying to convince my mom that Pepsi Kona existed. I loved the stuff.
As for the holiday spice Pepsi: I will eagerly be waitig for its arrival.
I went to the cafeteria at work and saw it this morning presented in its pretty little 20oz bottle. I had a sip of it before I handed it off to a co-worker to finish it off. It was nasty. Nasty nasty.
I tried some yesterday. It wasn’t horrible, but it definitely wasn’t good either. I took a couple of swallows, then poured the rest down the sink.
It was kind of like a mulled cider, but with carbonation and still some hint of Pepsi taste.
Then we probably shouldn’t tell you that these days root beer is pretty much vanilla and WINTERGREEN soda.
Some were. Moxie and Coca-Cola were developed as nerve tonics back in the heyday of patent medicines. Coke’s cocaine probably helped wake up its inventor, Dr Pemberton, who was a morphine addict, and explains why a measly seven ounces satisfied when today individual serving range up to Super Big Gulp size. 7up originally contained lithium and was marketed (I’ve seen old ads) as a hangover cure. Maybe it didn’t cure hangovers but the lithium may have evened out some bi-polars’ moods.
Great, now I am honor-bound to go hunt down a bottle of potentially yucky soda. On the other hand, I tried Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr Pepper yesterday and I *love * it. It doesn’t taste like diet soda at all. I wish I had some RIGHT NOW.
Are they going to have a diet version? This sounds yummy to me, but I don’t drink sugar soda.
Well, I tried it. It’s much better warm than it is cold (another drink that tastes good hot: Dr Pepper). It’s a good mixer, though.
I was planning on posting this thread. I like the new Spicy Pepsi. Of course, I liked Crystal Pepsi, so take that for what it’s worth.
