Hey you damn kids, get the hell out of my yard!
Didn’t Burning Man sign licensing agreements with McDonald’s and Budweiser?
I got some bad news for you mswas, even at Burning man underage drinking is not allowed and people under 18 must be accompanied by an adult over twenty-one. Fucking suburbanite oppresors. Sic Semper Tyranis!
Don’t believe it? Here is the link
Emotional and hysterical are fine in the Pit, mswas. Well, at least not unexpected. The limit is wishing posters who disagree with you would die.
Ratchet it back, mswas. Do not do this again.

Actually what you met was a skinny sensitive hippy who was going to get arrested while turning cartwheels next time.
Anyone who is practicing his handstands so the Man can’t bust you **has]/b] to be on some pretty heavy drugs.

Shodan
Well, how can they put cuffs on your hands when you’re standing on them? Well? Answer me that, Shodan! Humph!
I was not
Ooooh, stormtroopers! Don’t forget your Official Luke Skywalker helmet, Princess Leia Decoder Ring and, of course, your lightsaber!
Have fun in the desert! Don’t forget to hydrate!
If they didn’t have the proper permits, they cops had every right to shut it down (and if they were disturbing other campers, the cops should shut it down even if they have the proper permits). The problem is the way they went about it. They ridiculously over-the-top. The helicopters and the assault gear would be comical if it weren’t so scary. Ravers aren’t looking for trouble. If you ask them to leave, they will. The cops were just out to scare them…and probably hoping to provoke some violent response. Raves have been demonized in the media and the insane WoSD means that some law enforcement are really out to kill the scene (some, like Trinka Porrata, have made a career out of it).
A lot has been made of the “weapons offenses, DUI, illegal underage consumption of alcohol, possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of ecstasy, distribution of ecstasy, resisting arrest, assault on a police officer, and disorderly conduct”. Shut down any sizeable rock concert and you get pretty much the same list (and I’m skeptical of the weapons offenses and the sexual assualt that’s been mentioned…it’s not like the cops have never “exaggerated” in situations like this).
Look for the sign that says “WARNING! Air Force Practice Bombing Range!”
Now this is a policy I can really get behind! Fuck yeah! C’mere ya little punk!
A tad? :dubious: A “tad?” A tad?!
I think you forgot some adjectives; need a Thesaurus? :wally
Well, I have been feeling a bit listless lately, but up to now I’d put it down to the humidity.
Riiight. Like the way all of those responsible Ravers brought weapons to a “peaceable assembly?” You’ve helped me make up my mind about the way this country should be governed: I’m voting for the next candidate who proposes sticking an armed soldier/cop/Nazi with a loaded weapon pointed at the head of every student in every classroom in America.
And here I thought you couldn’t get any nuttier.
When come back oh the hell with it.
{hand wave} These aren’t the drugs you’re looking for.
That would have been so cool!
And the beautiful part is, nobody would believe the ravers. They would put it all down to drug-induced hallucinations, and the fascist takeover is complete.
I’m off to e-mail some suggestions to the police department.
Regards,
Shodan
that was funny.
Because there was no reason to shut it down before hand. If only 249 people had shown up with no drugs, no weapons and not engaged in any other criminal activity, the police had no cause to do anything. Did you want the ability to whine no matter what? Sheesh…
As an Ex-EMT I would tend to agree that using this OD scenario would be a little hyperbolic. If she was in any real danger she would not have been released to parents unless it was AMA.
Define directly related? IF by directly related you mean things like resisting arrest, fine. So what were the other 23 for?
Mayor tells cheif to put a dent in the drugs around here.
Cheif tells vice guys to come up with a plan.
Vice guys go hmm we could
A) Bust up Marthas quilting circle I hear they pass a joint around now and then.
B) Raid a few high school football games since we all know that despite the fact that many of the kids there are supervised by their parents some drinking and drug use does take place.
C) Isn’t there going to be a big rave coming up in a few weeks? Theres always plenty of drug use going on there.
Please pick the most likely target if you were the police department.
Its kinda like the guys driving lowered metallic pink integras with big NOS decals complaining about speeding tickets. Drive a vehicle designed to attract attention, you get it…positive and negative.
Yet, with 4 weeks notice that the rave was going to be held, and with the availability of the promoter’s names and the names of many people involved (there were advance ticket sales, after all), the police chose to go in with armed SWAT teams instead of working with the promoters to ensure that the event happened and things went smoothly and safely. They had a month to investigate, but delayed until the afternoon of the event to check on the permit. In fact, at that point a simple phone call to the promoters could have avoided this whole thing. Call them up, explain that they don’t have the proper permit and that if they insist on having the event, they will be busted. Since no one knew where the event was until they went online that day, the promoters could have explained the situation online and told people “event canceled, hold your tix until we can sort this out, or get a refund”. Now we don’t even need the SWAT teams, the helicopter, the guns, etc. Instead, the police waited and sprung a trap. How is that good use of funds? How is that smart law enforcement? It isn’t.
Police should take every available avenue to do their job without violence, without inflicting harm. They exist to “serve & protect” and, IMO, they could have done that better than they did.

More information is surfacing.
It turns out that the Utah county MG permit is needed if a gathering is to have more than 250 people present and continue or be reasonably expected to continue to for more than 12 hours.
The rave was scheduled to last 10 hours. The security people contracted confirm this, as well as the people who supplied the lights and sound system.
The landowner, Trudy Childs, has stated that she has been told that police were, in fact, acting to send a message.
For those who pictured lots and lots of illegal weapons: there weren’t. There were only 2 weapons charges, and one of those is against another of the Childs family, for a pistol found in their house after the raid. I can’t find info on the other weapon charge. In fact, the vast majority of the charges filed are for resisting arrest and/or failing to obey an officer, which would not have been an issue if there had been no raid. Don’t believe me? Go look for yourself at the Utah County Jail bookings.
To sum up… the cops busted a party nearly 7 hours before it was scheduled to end, and 9 hours before it would have been in violation. NO mass gathering permit was needed because the promoters had planned and had every intention to end it well before the proscribed time period. There were not lots of weapons on the property, except for those brought by the police. The landowner is saying she is being harrassed, and that the police do have a hardon for these raves.
Go ahead, tell me again how the police had every right to act as they did. And when come back, bring facts.
Thanks for paying attention.
Uh, huh, and you won’t get a speeding ticket if there’s no police patrol on the road. Your point being?
Is that the best you can do, Updike? That’s it? That’s your learned, well-thought out retort to the evidence I presented? A completely non-analogous situation?
Do you feel smart now? Do you feel like you put me in my place?
You got nothing.
When come back, bring facts.
Nice try yourself, bucko. Saying that ravers wouldn’t have been arrested for “resisting” or “failing to obey an officer” if the police hadn’t shown up is a tautolgy that proves nothing.
