Well, while y’all were drooling into your pillows …
I have an insta-cup of no longer quite vegan split pea soup hanging out, absorbing the flavors of its kielbasa addition, and am running the space heater in my tiny bathroom cuz it’s actually a wee bit chilly tonight (44 ferret height) but I am NOT running the whole-house heat yet. Nuh-uh, I am not emotionally ready for it to be THAT cold yet! I want my autumn, dammit!
Haven’t showered yet cuz I got sucked into reading some stuff, snuggling Monkey, and - okay - having a post-work smoke. But I have clean PJs on tap in the (rapidly warming) bathroom, complete with comfy clean socks, and am looking forward to my mostly-healthy meal.
… ehrmahgawd I have one last tube of whomp croissants in the fridge. Ooooooh, might add those to the menu.
(Hey! Look who’s hungry!)
Ah, and per the OP:
“I am the darkness, that massages your shoulder.”
“I am the darkness, that crouches atop your laundry (for no particular reason)”
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/58f with a predicted high of 18c/65f and mostly sunny. Weather app says “Optimists say it’s fucking sunny outside. I say fine, but it could be fucking warmer. I’m no fucking optimist.” I think it is quite warm enough right now, don’t need any more heat today, thank you very much.
I have a load of cat pics on my phone but haven’t managed to upload any here yet. Might try later
I’m thinking about getting up off the couch to brush my teeth and wander off to bed, does that count?
I may read a few pages of my murder mystery once I crawl under the covers. First I have to find a heavier cover to crawl under, my summer just-a-top-sheet ain’t gonna cut it tonight. Which is lovely.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 68 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 83 and cloudy. That is early Fall weather for these parts. RDOS inactivities are the plan of the day. No need or desire to leave da cave at all. We have some leftover pulled poke, so sup shall be bbq poke sammiches, coleslaw and oven fries. Easy to make and tasty, so that’s a win.
We have no pets so I shall enjoy pics of Mumpets. VanGo Peach looks tuckered out after a hard day’s work. Shoe and doggio Monkey and Spot look like they are thinkin’, “fine, we shall tolerate the taking of our images so that the peasants may adore us.”
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
That was a lucky catch - 5 seconds later she was done and gone.
Daughter posted this last night and I stole it - Trevor and his boy:
It was pre-bed TV time. The cat is either Aly or Wanda - they’re sisters and unless I can feel their tails, I can’t tell the difference. Wanda has a little kink about an inch from the end of her tail.
Woke to 51° - I probably should have closed a couple of windows last night. But we’re heading to mid-70s with sun today. And for whatever reason, I forgot to open the bathroom window yesterday, so with the door closed, it’ll be a cozy shower place.
The frost-free freezer isn’t. My plan is to cram all the frozen food into the fridge, then turn the freezer off and leave it open while I’m at Aldi. I’ll aim a fan to (I hope) expedite de-frostage. With luck by the time I return home, I can wipe it down with a towel, refill it, and turn it back on. I’d like to get a new fridge with crushed ice thru the door. I hate side-by-side because of the narrow shelves. FCD hates the lower freezer drawer, and I don’t think anyone makes a top freezer model with an ice dispenser. The biggest problem is when I designed our kitchen, I allowed only 36.5” for the fridge, which makes for a very tight fit with most models being about 35.8” or so. The next size down has limited models from which to choose. The search goes on.
Anyway, that’s today’s big plan. Try not to envy my life.
Are you us? Mr. brown doesn’t like the lower freezer drawer because things can get buried. I hate the side-by-side freezer because I sometimes like to freeze things on a cookie sheet and you can only do this in a freezer drawer. Luckily, I’m boss in the kitchen and I get to choose.
Today is Mr. brown’s Covid shot, and afterwards we’ll go out to try a new Mexican place in Gilroy. It’s a new branch of another restaurant in Castroville that we love. I hope it’s as good as the original, as that’ll save us a lot of driving.
Then I must evict some spent lobelia plants out of a planting barrel and replace them with something that’ll do well through the winter. I’m thinking some yellow pansies maybe.
Mornin’ Mumpers! - Happy Moanday. About 0745 as I start to drivel. Rained overnight, gray and wet everywhere, and presently raining heavily out over the ocean, but not immediately here. NWS sez that will move onshore later and we’ll all be getting wet this afternoon. Presently 79/26 on the way to a comfy 91/33. In swampy’s fine words: “That is early Fall weather for these parts.”
Had a pleasant early dinner of HH chicken wings at the German joint a couple blocks away. Big meaty things and a nicely hot sauce for $1/ea. Such a deal! Successfully kept it low-carb by avoiding the giant hot salty yummy Bavarian pretzel mit bierkäse for a second course. Managed to dodge meaningful rain coming and going, so just a light sprinkling to refresh my hairdo. Go me!
I have useful activities I ought to do now that it’s Monday and office irkers be irkin’, but I probably won’t. Tue, Wed, & Thu mornings first thing I have docs, housekeepers, and docs respectively, so today is my only weekday to laze away the morning in proper RDOS fashion. And so I shall.
Had phone call with GF last night as she was in bed in the Athens hotel. I just love the sound of a woman’s voice when she’s horizontal. She was prepping to get 5 hours of sleep then get up to shevel & leave for the airport. We really miss each other, she’s exhausted, but they packed a LOT of fun into their time away and she’s happy to have gone and happy to be returning.
We’re not scheduled to see each other until noon-ish Saturday, but schedules have been known to be revised.
Great pet pix so far. So cuuute. As an adult I’ve never owned a pet of any sort unless you count some lawn & garden moles (Hi Flyboy!!) and that one infestation of Brown Recluses in the basement of the Big House. The last pet my parents owned died in about 1981 shortly after I finished college.
From last week …
@susan is surely right. As is @JaneDoe42. We saw the same thing around here when trump was elected the first time, where SDMB turned into “all trump all the time with a side order of fuck y’all I’m so stressed I’m lashing out.”
IRL will get a lot worse before it gets better. Here probably will as well. I’ve certainly adjusted the areas of SDMB I pay little or no attention to.
But overall, this place remains a bastion of social sanity in an increasingly crazy world, so I’d be real reluctant to abandon it. What’s left? Absolute hermitage? Hermitosity?
Good point there @liirogue. I check for rings, but I also know most female FAs wore wedding-like rings even if they were single; it kept the mildly boorish passengers at bay. The pregnant woman I encountered had no rings. I’m wondering what Jane learns from necklaces; I don’t think of them as having any connection to relationship status.
My point from my prior post was that even in group peer conversations I’ve talked with plenty of women where we’re sharing our respective family situations, potted life histories, etc., and to hear them tell their tale, there are no men now, no men in their past, but she sure has her own great kids. As I delicately inquire, turns out dear hubby of 30 years is over there across the room in another group of yakkers.
It’s just incomprehensible to me to talk about anything from my married years in any terms other than “we”. If we’d had children, they’d certainly be “ours”, not “mine” even now that my wife is deceased.
YMMV.
Good to hear that @Jack_Batty & Bob had the best kind of fire: someone else’s. And not too serious; it’s easier than it ought to be for one of those buildings to get going good and put 40 households out on the street without most of their worldly possessions.
@TokyoBayer: Been a rough couple of weeks for you. Between your late friend, the house project, etc. When I used to be heavy into boating I found that it’s soo easy to get chilled to the bone when you’re wet through even though the air temperature is pleasant. And at least for me, there’s no exhaustion like the aftermath of being chilled. Normal sleeping nor eating can make up for it; need to double-up on both for a day or two. Easier said than done in a busy life. Bib-type rainsuit for the bottom 2/3rds and a long rain jacket w integral hood for the top 60% is the way to go. With flotation because it’s a bitch to swim in that gear.
Is that not the general lot in life of teachers? Doesn’t make it any more fun, but at least it makes it less unexpected.
But yeah, that does sound seriously demoralizing to jump up front, turn on your performance energy and take charge while bone-tired and then the little shits just sit there sullenly absorbing all your precious energy to no evident effect except their annoyance.
As several of us have said at other times in other threads: “Good thing they’re cute or they’d never live to reproduce”.
Well, an hour’s gone by, a big part of today’s short supply of dry ones. So I’ll drop this on the wire for good or ill.
It’s 60°F, dark and cloudy. Sunrise will occur in about 25 minutes. The day will be filled with cloudy skies and a slight chance of rain showers, with a daytime high of 77°F. It rained for a good part of the morning yesterday, so once again, I didn’t have to worry about watering plants.
I have also noted the ugliness in other parts of the MMP, so I pretty much limit my MMP time to this thread. I am not going to let the ugliness win and give up “seeing” all of you here.
I have not yet found a way to transfer my pictures from cloud-based storage to a site that is MMP posting-friendly. I would need to purchase a local storage site first. Does anyone remember PICASA? I loved that system, both cloud and local storage. Then it became Google Photos.
Laundry was laundered yesterday, and not much more occurred. I need a project, so I think I’m going to start a deep clean of my old WFH office. It’s not really filthy, but walls need washing, baseboards need cleaning, and I should probably steam clean it too. The project is somehow both large and small enough not to seem overwhelming.
Depending on my old peers’ schedules this week, I may go down to Oly town to go to lunch with them. Before or after, I’ll stop in and say hello to my son.
I’d like to go out to dinner sometime this week, too. Maybe to a restaurant along the waterfront in Tacoma. The pups should be fine.
I don’t like side-by-side fridges for the same reasons listed above. I have a French door with a bottom freezer that includes an ice/water dispenser on the outside of the door. I have only two complaints about this particular fridge: the constant ice dams (it’s a Samsung, never buy a Samsung fridge/freezer), and the water/ice dispenser section is not tall enough to put a water bottle or large pitcher in.
I loved that pic of Tobias and Trevor. Labs are such loves.
Time for another cup of coffee. Take care of yourselves.
the weekend was the usual. shopping trip with falcon sighting, i bought 2 lion statues at home goods. i now have my own patience and fortitude guarding the book shelves. yarn was acquired at michael’s, there was a sale. i actually made a food list for grocery shopping. i eat the same stuff. i have decided to do a food price comparison. this week was acme, next time will be giant, then shoprite. most of the items were on sale this time, the non sale price is on the receipt so i will be able to do like for like.
i finished “new tricks”, now i’m onto “franklin and bash” on netflix. there was knitting when not cat cuddling while watching. every now and again tiding happened.
due to watching/reading police procedurals/mysteries/thrillers, some times i wonder what would be found in my flat should it be searched. this does spark a renewed effort at keeping tidy. i also wonder what the coroner/medical examiner would think of my stomach contents. hhhhm, interesting diet of ice cream and chocolate covered gummy bears… this does not spark an effort at healthy eating.
my pet pic. is next to my name. the mostly white cat is lager the lovey dovey, the fully orange cat is koritza the klimber.
fcm, love the pic of tobias and furry friends. that is love.
Imgur seems to be the SDMB favorite. You can create a free account there or even just post individual pix there anonymously with no account. There’s even a thread about some of the idiosyncracies of using it:
Holy @#$% I haven’t had those in a hot minute. I forgot they exist!
Ah, sweet memories …
Man, it’s my Blessed Day Off, and I have SO much crap that needs to be done, including some adulting/administrivia … but I also REALLY need more sleep.
Good morning all. Slept in until 7:15am today, outside of the 4am micturation, and will head out to do the usual Moanday shop-n-sammich run in about an hour. Like a lot of folks, it’s cooler today, about 60F now but heading to 82F by the afternoon. However, it will be back in the 90’s by the weekend and there is absolutely no rain in the forecast for the next week and a half. So hot and dry seems to be my future…
Lovely pics all, I do not own a pet so none from me, but I will contribute this short (5 min) video from one of my favorite channels, Girl With the Dogs (p.s.–it’s a cat): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qepd6oLTt9A
I have a side-by-side refrigerator/freezer and for my needs (I do not freeze that much fresh food outside of a couple loaves of bread) it works fine. YMMV.
lucky, need to check if the places have the COVID shots in stock yet.
Pilot, hope GF has a safe and comfortable flight home and useful activities are highly over-rated, IMHO…outside of eating, drinking, spectating, and…some others…
rocky, I always have a list when I go to the grocery, and I almost always add to it once I am there…
And that’s all for now, have a couple Monday you tubes to view and then off for my Jersey Mike’s #3. Take care all.
While they make great phones, tablets, TVs, etc, they are poorly rated for large appliances.
Time for Nelson to join the list of good looking MumPets.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Once that’s done, I’ll call the insurance company about the car. I got a text from the other guy’s insurance over the weekend, so I’m thinking that they set him straight about who is at fault for a rear end accident. After that, it will be RDOS activity.
