Pet pictures!

Someone wants either a belly pat or a game.

Or, of course, both.

Don’t! It’s a trap!

It is with many cats, but not this one. I can blow raspberries into his tummy and he won’t even move.

To Change a Mattress: An Epic Tale

My wife and I replaced our mattress a couple of days ago. The first step was to strip the bed and remove the old mattress. Except…

So I had to be mean and give everyone the boot.

A short while later, the mattress was removed, and OMG WHAT IS HAPPENING

But not long after, all was once again right with the world.

They just wanted to help you.

This is semi-cheating, but I was on vacation visiting a Texas friend on the Halloween weekend, and snapped a few pics of his recently adopted kitten (a rescue he got roughly 8 weeks ago).

First off, turns out the little orange one is a girl, as I found out when doing a more detailed inspection of the back end than I’d managed previously. Apparently, about 80% of orange cats are male, so she’s already decided to be a bit unusual (smile).

Hadn’t seen her for a few days, so I’d concluded she’d either been adopted or scooped up into shelter/foster care, but when I opened the door to check on an odd (non-feline) sound from the parking lot, she came running and pretty much dove into the food dishes.

She’s still her usual feisty little self with the older cats (never mind that Buddy’s about 3x her size and could easily use her as a hockey puck if he felt like it), and getting more affectionate with me. We even had a period of voluntary lap occupancy.

My kneecap is apparently quite the comfy pillow (that’s my folded leg under Monkey)

That’s not dust or a weird filter effect .. he really does have random white hairs sprinkled in amongst his otherwise jet-black fur.

Makes him look like a starry night sky. :star_struck:

My jet-black Freddie Mercury (“Merc”) also has random white hairs sprinkled in his coat, most toward the front. He also has a dusting of pale gray on his chin and at the base of his whiskers. Not a real white marking, more like salt and pepper.

From a few moments ago, wearing his glow-in-the-dark “jacket” (dog harness, but don’t tell him that!) in a moment of inside-home-warming before yeeting himself back outside again:

I’m wondering if that’s bright enough to be uncomfortable for his eyes.

He doesn’t seem to mind it (trust me, he’d fuss if something was not to his liking) and it’s behind his head so he really can’t see it.

…. aaand now he’s in the same spot, except hi-viz:

Dude seems to really like clutching my thigh like it’s the last driftwood in the “Titanic” movie. That is, again, my folded leg, and him very - somehow - comfortably using my knee as a pillow.

For @JaneDoe42 he always sleeps like this.

For those who haven’t seen my posts in other threads, Allie passed on Tuesday. After 14 years, we will very much miss her.

OTOH, the little one now gets to stay and we’re working on figuring out her name. I was leaning toward something vaguely spice-related, since she’s a feisty one, while DH thinks something to do with fire would also work. We have ruled out Ginger as just too cliche for an orange cat. I find myself leaning toward something that could also be a human name, since that seems to fit our general naming preferences for pets.

Pepper?

Orpiment

Or Quinacridone

Or maybe William I of Orange. Not very good for a girl cat.

Or maybe Saffron (you could call her Ronnie) or Tumerica (Erica) or Annatto (Annie)

Or maybe Ayo (Agent Orange=A.O.=Ayo)

Of course, there is Carrot, Pumpkin, Apricot and Sweet Potato

Or Gigi, Golden Gate (Bridge), which is painted Orange

I will stop now. (I love giving animals names)

I’m very sorry for your loss.
