Peter Jackson LOTR Cameos

I’ve spotted PJ in FOTR (carrot-eating Bree-man), and TTT (rock-throwing Helm’s Deep defender), but I haven’t spotted him in ROTK. But then, I’ve only seen it twice.

Is he in there somewhere?

He’s on the pirate/ghost ship before Aragorn joins the fight.

Thanks! I’ll have to watch it again so I can check. So he’s a ghost, then?

(I’ve also spotted his kids–hobbit children in FOTR, Helm’s Deep refugees in TTT. Not seen yet in ROTK).

I think we see his son either in Minas Tirith when Faramir is leaving to go back to Osgiliath.

Jackson is not a ghost though, I dont think, hes on the boat when we first see the boats, its a vision of either Elrond or Gandalfs I think.

They can be seen in Minas Tirith as Faramir and his company are heading out to try to recapture the river city (Osgiliath?). You know, the mournful scene where everybody knows these guys are heading to certain death and Gandalf tries to convince Faramir not to go. There is a short shot of a girl and a boy dressed in white and standing in front of an adult and watching as the soldiers ride past. That’s them.

What about PJ driving his car? I haven’t yet spotted him in TTT or ROTK. In FOTR he can be seen in the scene where Frodo and Sam leave the Shire, where they stand in the cornfield next to the scarecrow, and when Sam says that this is the farthest from home he’s ever been. In the upper right corner of the screen you can just barely make out a plume of dust being kicked up by PJ’s car.

I think the image of the Corsair mercenaries happens when Elrond is speaking to Aragorn in the Rohan encampment. You know, when Aragorn is given Anduril. And Jackson is the head mercenary, striding around and shouting at people. I think he’s wearing shorts and no shoes, too.

One of the chief animators is the bored guard at the beacon, who’s sitting down and drinking.

I haven’t spotted the artistic director, Richard (somebody) although he apparently has an ROTK cameo too.

Anyone else notice that Deagol is the guy with the pumpkin in The Green Dragon at the end of the movie? Mysteriously reincarnated and everything.

No. The plume of dust was in the theatrical version, but was just a passing car. It was edited out for the Extended Edition. I’ve read nearly everything on the fansites, and I’ve never heard that it was PJ’s car.

Just look for the little girl with the enormous eyes – she does the eye bit better than Puss 'n Boots.

Also, it was Andy Sirkus, who played Smeagol (ie: Gollum) at the pub at the end of ROTK. Nice of them to let him appear with his own face for a change.

I don’t know if he did any animation, but you’re talking about Christian Rivers, who drew all the storyboard sketches for the filming.

Was the car also edited out of the Theatrical Version DVD?

It may have been. I haven’t watched that DVD in a while.

That would be a shame, if true…a classic blooper lost forever.

Unless… (and we’re getting way off topic, here)…when a film is shown on cable TV, do they show the theatrical version, or the DVD?

It was edited out out the Theatrical DVD. It’s still on one of the extras in the Extended edition, but I don’t remember where. I laughed when I saw it because in the commentary Peter Jackson said he never saw the car (hey Pete, watch your own extras!). The editor specifically said he knew about it and took it out for the DVD release. It’s also shown in the National Geographic special.

(No, it wasn’t Peter Jackson’s car. Where do these rumours come from?)

I thought this was settled here (post#10 by GuanoLad).
