Peyton Manning to Broncos, Tebow to be traded

As a Patriots fan, I welcome this development.

Brilliant.

This rivalry is always entertaining.

I’m so going to hell for laughing at that.

Ugh, I was really hoping Tebow would end up behind a really good QB like Rodgers, just to quiet down the “play Tebow” talk. Unless Sanchez wins every game, Tebow is still gonna dominate the discussion.

For a different reason, though: I think Jets fans are losing patience with Sanchez. I don’t know if the other Tebow factors will be a big deal.

So sad. Possibly the worst possible place for Tebow to go.
I strongly suspect that the Jets’ thinking is

  1. Sparano will develop some kind of specialized Tebowcat package
  2. Having Tebow as a backup will put pressure on Sanchez, which will make him better.

I am dubious of the first, and very, very dubious of the latter.

I expect Sanchez will play about as well as he has for his whole career; I expect Tebow to play about as well as he has for his whole career; I expect drama and headlines and a 7-9 record and Rex Ryan fired and Tebow released. :frowning:

Ugh. This Jets fan may be looking for a new team to root for. I haven’t liked most of their moves and player acquisitions recently; this may put me over the edge.
Leaving aside how good a QB he may or may not be (I tend toward “not”): I don’t really dislike Tebow as a person - but man I dislike (with a very broad brush) his rabid fanbase. I’m not sure I want to be associated with this team anymore.

7-9?

:dubious:

Tebow should change his image. Maybe start wearing a leather jacket…

When you’re a Jet, you’re a Jet all the way
from your first cigarette to your last dyin’ day.
When you’re a Jet, let 'em do what they can, you got
brothers around, you’re a family man! You’re never
alone, you’re never disconnected! You’re home with
your own when company’s expected, you’re well
protected! Then you are set with a capital J, which
you’ll never forget till they cart you away. When
you’re a Jet, you stay a Jet!

So you mean Tebow is going to take a heel turn? This could get interesting.

An actual brief conversation I had with a coworker a few minutes ago:

Me: How are you doing?
Coworker: Not so good.
Me: What’s up?
Him: I’m a Jets fan and they just traded for Tim Tebow.
Me: Ow. When people said the Bills might be interested, I was thinking ‘Please, no.’ But in New York City it’s going to be worse.
Him: Welcome to Linsanity 2.0.
Me: Except that Jeremy Lin-
Him: Helps you win games, yeah.

Tebow also can win, and is effective when teams can’t prepare for him, but I wouldn’t want him to be number one for any length of time.

Of course, you could now have a shotgun with two QBs ready to receive the snap.

I wanna see my boy Greg McElroy beat out Tebow for the starting QB spot. It would be a great ending to a story that goes back quite a few years (Alabama offered Tebow a scholarship. Tebow eventually went to Florida. Alabama offered a QB schollie to McElroy at the last second. Florida (with Tebow) wins 2008 national championship (going through Bama for the SEC championship), Alabama (with McElroy) wins 2009 national championship (going through Florida and Tebow for SEC championship).

Okay, maybe 6-10.
They were 8-8 last year, and I don’t see any major improvements. They’ve lost a few minor players, and they have at least as many guys on the downside of their career as on the upside.

Unless they get improved QB play or a instant-star rookie, I’d expect decline.

Shefter reporting Tebow trade voided due to contract language…

Yep. It ain’t a done deal yet:

Jets’ trade for Tebow hits a snag, could be voided, Rams may get him

At this stage, given what a mess the Jets made of their trade, I don’t know where Tebow will end up- but counterintuitively New York might actually be a good place for him, precisely because New York football fans are so RARELY born-again Christians.

In many cities, Christian fans would be rooting MUCH too hard for Tim, calling for him to start at QB even when it’s clear he’s not ready.

In New York, he wouldn’t have that kind of fawning support among the crowd. Jets fans will cheer for him when he produces- NOT before. They’ll call for him to play when he shows he can do the job and make the throws- NOT before.

That’s what Tim really needs, IF he’s ever going to succeed (and I’ve long been on the record as doubting that). In New York, for the first time, he’d have fans who’d LIKE him to succeed but aren’t automatically giving him the benefit of the doubt. He’d actually have to win those fans over on the field. When he succeeded, Jets fans would give him all the priase he’d ever want… but when he stank, they wouldn’t make any excuses for him.

That might actually be GOOD for him.

What, is Stern going to send him to the Clippers?

Joke

The issue could be worked out, but it sounds like it’s not that the Jets blew it, it’s that they found something in his contract they don’t like. ESPN says this payment was an issue for Jacksonville, too.
